Lot of electronical problems.. hand break working properly but giving error in dashboard, windows which are not opening anymore, heater is broken when it start freezing outside, ... also lot of shit with the clutch which is working with hydraulics and very expensive to change/repair.. Butttt the engine is very reliable!!! Have already 400k..
I think its more a leggend, there are actually electronic problems but are equal or less than any new car. If you know the problems you can repair it without spending much. Electronic dashboard can be repaired 70% of times, there are many tutorials on web. Most of electric problems are due to water coming from under windshield that has two drain pipes that shoul be cleaned. Electronic handbrake has two failpoints, one is simply the end of life of the electric motor at about 150 - 200 000 km, changed myself 2 times (one used and last one new this year, another is a problem with manual switch that can oxidize or go out of position repair time 30 minutes. Heater blower controller has a problem with connectors, soldered wire directly and never had a problem for 200 000 km, changed blower fan last year at 400 000. Clutch hydraulic pump is still the original, think could help changing brake fluid to keep it healthy

I love these Scenics.
Sometimes electronically they can be a desaster, but the engines are very reliable and last a long time.
I've heard that the 2003 models had problems with the insturment cluster
