I don't ever comment, but somebody NEEDS to point out the absolutely gorgeous shot of transitioning from a macro view of the watch in standard good lighting to viewing the watch in enough darkness to have the lume pop out. I don't know if that's brand new to this video but it is just incredible camera work that I haven't seen done practically like that ever before. Beautiful shot guys

regarding the date window at 9, watchfinder has this exactly backwards.
This is NOT a sign of Rolex doing some extra effort.
Quite to the contrary, they did this extra cheap:
What they actually did was taking a regular GMT and just turning it 180 degree around. (All they had to change was the printing on the dial and the date wheel).
Which is less of a change than making a "real" left-hander which might have required some more intenal changes to the movement).

Yes, exactly this, and it's extremely lazy. Same for the Gen 1 Explorer 214270 where they re-used extra hands from the 36mm outgoing version, and for the new Air King where they now use the old 214270's numerals.

The crown being traditionally on the right was because most people wear their watch on the left arm and hence they could wind the watch without taking it off their arm. Inasmuch as most watches today are either battery powered or self winding, it doesn't really matter which side the crown is on now.

The theory is you’re more prone to bump your dominate hand on tables, equipment, and odds and ends.

Same here. I’m part of a generation where watches are worn on the left wrist. I’m a lefty and wouldn’t want to even try wearing it on the right hand. Question of habit I guess. Left handed crown do have an advantage though for everyone wearing the watch on their left wrist: the crown will sit within the wrist and not against the back of your hand, which can be a nuisance especially for larger models. That to me would be the biggest advantage.

I'm left handed. I don't own a Rolex and probably never will but I do have an Omega Seamaster 600 Ploprof. Out of all of my watches, the said Omega is the most uncomfortable one to adjust and I find myself setting it upside down. To me, it looks like Rolex let the 1st year apprentice put the watch together. If I ever had the opportunity to buy a Rolex, I'd order it with the bezel and date in the usual place.

My question is, why do £10k++ watches/brands specifically not take the extra few minutes to make sure all their signed crowns not screw in so their brands logo not sit perfectly upright!?… is it just me or does this bother other watch enthusiasts?.. im not a Rolex consumer but I did buy the new Oris Aqua Cal.400 and (I’m guessing I got lucky but after turning the crown almost 200 times to get the 120+ hour main spring barrels wound the crown screws in so the company name sits almost perfectly parallel (off but maybe 1 or 2 degrees) with the crystal.

Rolex cannot meet supply & demand with their standard watches, so making bespoke timepieces would only lengthen the waiting lists at ADs that will add even more time to the ‘registration of interest’ queues… Plus the flippers could & would create even more unusual & lucrative timepieces.
In my opinion Rolex need to put their house in order before creating even more obstacles for customers who just want to buy & wear the watch to tell the time…
Maybe they could make a GPS master to foil the moped robbers now that would be somewhat helpful

The longer they take the less I’m interested. I’m pretty sure they’re not interested in making enough to meet demand. Makes me look at different brands and that’s fine with me.

no Rolex is worth the hype.....I would pay retail for some of their watches. But I will not give some d-bag watch flipper a dime over retail. Full-Stop!! I can be patient and while I do like their watches, there is a limit. The Batman and the Explorer 1 come to mind and I'm on waiting lists for both. Either I get one or I don't. I'm fine either way.

Rolex should offer the option to use any of the GMT Master bezels, but I suppose they wanted this lefty to be instantly recognizable.

    • @sylinmino
      @sylinmino 2 года назад +1

Yeah Rolex has really nailed the art of making their models recognizable like that to people who know their stuff. You know the Platona and Platinum Day Date by the ice blue dial. You know the white gold Pepsi by the different dial. You know the white gold Submariner by the bezel color.
It's a good way of making the people who buy the more expensive ones more comfortable with it being a visible tell for those in the know, rather than just something stealthy.

Great content! Question for you. Last September (09/21) I purchased a 126333 two tone 41mm Datejust when I was picking up my 15200 34mm OPD from service at my AD. The 12633 Datejust was just sitting in the window and I couldn't resist. Upon purchase I asked to be added to the waitlist for a black submariner. At Christmas I popped in to say hello and dropped off Starbucks gift cards for the staff with thank you cards! I ended up buying a 124060 no date sub on my birthday (03/22) for close to 20k Canadian on the grey market and went into my AD to get it sized I felt this was my way of showing them I was REAL. I asked to be put on the list for a Starbucks sub as green is my favourite colour. I explained to my AD my eyes were green, the University I played and graduated division 1 lacrosse at was green (Wagner College 2019) and where I was just about to graduated professional school from (Nipissing University 2022) was also green. After watches and wonders I saw the release of the sprite GMT and fell in love. I went in the next day and purchased a green dial PRX Tissot automatic from my AD and asked to be switch from the Starbucks sub list to the sprite GMT. (My AD said it would be easier to get the sprite GMT over the Starbucks sub). About two months ago I walked in to pickup my 114270 explorer from service at my AD and I mentioned my girlfriend liked the 34mm pink OP. I stopped by my AD three weeks later as I was planing to buy jewelry for my girlfriends birthday but my AD offered the 34mm OP pink dial to me and I purchased it on the spot (09/22). A week after I purchased my girlfriend her OP I got jealous and Purchased a brand new SpeedMaster Professional from a boutique and went into my AD to have it sized and show him. My AD loves chronos and does not sell OMEGA as its a small 100 year old family owned jewelry shop (ONLY Rolex, Tudor, TISSOT, HAMILTON) Within the last 12 months Ive had two rolexes serviced through my Ad and purchased two Rolexes from my AD and a PRX automatic. My question is - Im 26 and a true watch guy. Ive been with my girlfriend forever and Im inevitably going to drop the bag at some point for a ring. I want want it to be a well thought out CALCULATED decision. Am I currently in standing position to get the sprite GMT or do you believe I have to spend more???? I wanted to wait to spend 30k on a ring for when I asked for a Daytona LOL!
    Thank you,
    DP

I will get my Sprite the upcoming Saturday in my hometown in Germany. Have spent a mid 5 figure number this year in watches and jewelry and got on the list for the Sprite. 3 weeks later I got the call.
Get your girl some nice stuff and repeat politely not to be forgotten for your GMT.
But an engagement ring is something special, don’t buy it for a chance to get a watch. Tell your jeweler that you have an engagement in mind and he will put you on top of the list as it means that you also gonna need 2 wedding rings😉
