Stock McLaren 720S goes 9’s in the 1/4 mile!!!

- I took my factory stock 2019 McLaren 720S with R888Rs to the dragstrip to see what it will run in the 1/4 mile. I ran the car twice and it went 9s in both times in over +2,000 DA!! Do I have what it takes to break the stock McLaren 720S 1/4 mile world record of 9.73 if I can get a 0 or negative DA?? Let me know your thoughts!

720 is already insane to begin with - the 765lt is more of a track focused version - it may or may not be quicker in the 1/4
765lt is going low 9's more power, less weight and better gearing.
@@ale3hs it has better tires, shorter gearing, more power, and less weight. All things McLaren did to improve acceleration on track. Why wouldn't it be quicker on a strip? Even McLaren says it will accelerate quicker

The 720S is rated at 2.9 0-100 kmh and 7.8 0-200 kmh, the 765LT is rated at 2.8 0-100 kmh and 7.2 0-200 kmh
My friend has a 720S Spyder - the cars are amazing. What I love is how they sort of 'sit there' as they take off and then about 1/2 second in the car says to itself 'I have enough traction now, let's go!' and then things go blurry if you are riding in it! And then when you stop, things get blurry again!

I've always been impressed with this machine. Running 9.8s in a 2,000+ DA, that is just staggering! So yes I do believe that you could break the world's 1/4 record for a stock 720s, and I can't wait to see that happening 😘

The only 9.7 pass I have seen for a 720S was with a 2.39 0-60 mph

You can definitely break the record! That ATCO run was a heavier luxury spec car with stock Corsa tires.

Fadi , I was looking at you very first and my very first run at 1/4 mile track. What shocks me is that both cars run exactly the same times on very first pass . Your car went 9.94 so as my first pass was 9.94 too . How crazy is that LOL
For whatever reason, this car gets quicker with more pulls. I’ve realized that from day 1.

About 3% loss per 1000 ft. altitude is the rule of thumb. But my senses tell me that going to zero DA would actually yield 2 - 3% reduction in actual ET. So you might be able to do it. Seems your 720 is perhaps a tiny bit quicker than most. Sometimes that's just the way they come off the assembly line.
Congrats on the 9s. Good to see the McLaren is working for you as you've seen it in the past.
Side note: It's obvious to you and anyone who frequents these tracks what DA numbers imply, but I reckon particularly viewers that are new to drag racing won't know how air pressure affects performance. I think there's an opportunity here to explain some of the intricacies of these races in future videos.

Should drop .05-.1 per 1000ft DA. Being boosted, I'd expect closer to .1/1000ft.
If you look at my video I’ve posted a while ago, I tested this and got about .1 sec improvement in 60-130 for every 1000’ DA improvement. Check it out, pretty good video. Not very scientific but gives you an idea. That’s why I think I have a good shot at the world record with the same DA as the Atco 720. 👍

Better DA (lower ambient temps) should help. But remember though, cooler temps can sometimes impede good traction...even with R888R due to rubber compound. Thus why the stock Pirellis are junk for drag racing when cool out, especially when temps are at or under 50F. Perhaps now you see why so many 720s run between 10.2 & 10.3 on bone stock tires...and and sometimes slightly slower (10.3 - 10.4) on regular unprepped surfaces...but they CHARGE hard once going.😱
When fall comes around, you may need to invest in tire warmers and hope for good track prep in order to extrapolate low ET's to perhaps beat that record.😇
Regardless, given your car current stock state and that racing weather, I think your 720s is the quickest I've seen...Perhaps you have a well broken in Wednesday night built car. 😂
Keep practicing, learning the car...such as best rear tires psi, best pump gas station to use and how much level to run and so on...once fall rolls around, you'll have plenty of seat time & data to use. BTW, for the track, inflate front tires to around 40psi cold!

I'm not so sure about that DA Calculator because it doesn't include air pressure. To me it looks like a beautiful Summer day with very high pressure and cool temperatures for Summer. I just know from decades of drag racing that a sunny day with temps only in the 70s, low humidity in the 40s would be great drag racing conditions (even at 700 ft). Cooler air will make it harder to hook up too (don't forget that). But "IF" you can get a dead hook at 1.6 sec 60' times again in cooler air, you should run faster. But, you'll need that excellent 1.6 sec 60' time which is great for a stock McLaren (if it's stock - tires and all). But great times - 720s is a beast.

Tires won’t get any better. 888s is all I’ll run. When the DA is 0 or negative, it’s gonna be very hard to hook as well as I did this time around. That’s the kicker. We shall see.

i see no reason why you couldn't get the record, and hold it for quite some time. i believe that the toyo's were an option on that car, am i correct ? Dragtimes said that they were.

Thank you Brian! No, the Toyos weren’t ever an option on the 720S, but the Pirelli P-Zero Corsa were. Those tires don’t hook up nearly as well as the R888Rs though despite being an R compound tire. That’s why most people swap out for the Toyos. 👍

It’s not misleading at all and most likely within 1-2% of what it would actually dyno at. I also clearly state it’s approximate. This 680 whp figure is based on Dragtimes dyno of his stock 720S making 691 whp and Henessy’s dyno of their stock 720S making 675 whp. Not sure why you’d think it’s “misleading”.

Andy Hunt you can’t read very well my friend, because if you read the last sentence of my comment I specifically said in “ideal” conditions......which if you go back and watch the CarWow video you will see the track is still damp in spots and you can clearly hear the 720 spinning it’s tires even in 3rd/4th gear. Don’t worry though as more and more videos come out between the 2 you will see the truth.
