- Here is probably one of the most famous finnish piano pieces: Valse Lente Op. 33 by Oskar Merikanto (1868-1924). I find it a perfect tune to stroll by on a beautiful Sunday morning when spring comes.

This is one of all time favorites of finnish piano music. Doesn't this song just sound like spring? What's your favorite finnish piano piece?
The correct answer would, of course, be that your favourite is always the work at hand, the one you are contemplating. There is great truth in that, so it is, so it should be. So, this beautiful and delightful peace of Merikanto could very well be the answer, easily. Then again, the fact is, there are certain works we return to more often than to others. Some works do appeal to us in a curious way. So, I would have to confess, I probably do have a favourite, and it is Sibelius`s Impromptu nro 5, op. 5.

Absolutely beautiful ❤ It does sound like spring, nature having its ball with all the plants telling us "Look, here I am!" 😊 One of my favorite Finnish piano pieces would be "Mary of Storm Islet" (Myrskyluodon Maija).
