Mike Woods described how he was just behind and hit Sepp on the ground when Sepp was taken out in the crash. Big effort by Sepp to make up the ~40 second crash delay to catch the group but didn't have the legs left to match the subsequent accelerations. Sepp was fairly close to the front at ~15th position but if he has real GC ambition needs to be farther up to avoid an incident like this that takes him out but leaves those in front of him unscathed.

They say the best teacher is experience, and I think Ben will learn a lot about what it takes to be a top GC contender as he is put under the knife every day by arguably the Vuelta’s best in Primoz Roglic. Ben was on form during the final climb as he was able to keep up with Primoz during his first attack, but I think he bonked during the last km. These are the differences that separate a rider like Ben, who is in conversations for the GC podium, and a rider like Primoz, who is in conversations for the GC win. The Peacock commentators have been saying that Ben will mature as a rider during this experience, and I can already see some of that based on his interviews. I’m hoping he learns a lot and uses the experience to push him into that next level.

Regarding the crash you mentioned, at 5:50, a herd of deer crossed the road and caused a crash, which led to the riders' falling. In addition, a few bikes on top of the Euskaltel team car were destroyed because one of the deer entangled between them while jumping over.
Felix Gall should have rode with BO'C in that last 750m, he may not have been able to help him draft wise, but could have offered psychological motivation (much like Martinez did for Bernal in the Giro a few yr ago). I know he was trying to protect his GC position at the same time, but in a Vuelta that 'could' be decided on seconds, it hay have made the difference that allowed him to form a bridge to allow O'Conner to latch onto that 29 sec gap group, (Vollering is a prime example of this!). RED at the end is better than if they end up with a 3rd and 5th. Also this was IDEAL territory for Roglic, but was probably the worst type of climb for BO'C, so today's Queen stage will be more telling.
I was ok with Gall. 50/50 more or less because I don’t think it will matter as far as red goes. Ben will have to be able to climb with Ben or he won’t even finish on the podium. But if we were in the third week and Ben has Red, then yes Gall has to stay with Ben to the very finish. 🤔🦋👊
Not really. Oconnor has exactly 0% chance of winning, and a very small chance for podium. Gall has a much bigger chance for Podium, hence makes perfect chance for him to protect himself and not Oconnor. Oconnors GC aspirations are a slowly dying horse, which should be put out of his misery... Gall can do something in the real mountains yet to come.
Primoz is going to chip away at Ben’s lead everyday on the mountains. Primoz looks fantastic in this Vuelta. I do hope GC Kuss can make up some ground.
Perhaps the UAE riders are comforting themselves with the thought that, hey, two out of three ain't bad. And yes, Ben's gotta fight for his right to wear the jerrrrsey. 😀

I agree that Sepp did amazing damage control after having his wheel chopped by Vlasov as the peloton swung right entered the last climb but his chance of a podium finish is essentially over. As for Primoz Roglic he can thank the DS of IPT who forced his riders to chase the breakaway the whole day (some say as punishment for missing getting a rider in the breakaway) as the solo job they did brought the breakaway back to under a minute and then as Primoz himself said in a post race interview, Bora seized the opportunity and put their whole team at the front. Given that Sunday’s stage is the Queen stage with three monster climbs I honestly don’t think Bora would have minded the breakaway winning so as to have a quieter day in preparation for Sunday. In terms of gaining time back on Ben O’Connor, since Ben was glued to his wheel Primoz could still have beaten him up the last climb.

Cannot believe organizers or some rich dude in UAE did nott pony up enough money for Tadej to keep the circus going. If he ain't motivated by records then he sure is by dineros!!!
And they actually thought they were going to hang with Prizmo😂. Prizmo will gain more time tomorrow back on O'Connor. It was bad luck for Sepp to get caught up in that crash. I want to see Rigatelo climb well tomorrow and hang with Prizmo along with Sepp. After watching Sepp work for Wout, I kinda think he's racing for wins, not the G.C.
What Tadej and Vingegaard do is amazing, but they are so good it is not even close. But do the competion being a bit closer and the tactics worse this race is cooking
Well, Gall is actually their GC rider and if they keep riding like today, Gall could still end up in front of him despite the huge advantage O'Connor got from the breakaway. Considering he wouldn't really have made a difference on the steep part, it's only logical to not sacrifice his race further.
I’m kind of ok with it because if Ben cannot follow Gall he won’t win the GC anyways. So I guess I’m ok with it at this moment. If Ben has the jersey and we are late into the third week I would not be. 😬🦋👍🤔
I like O´Connor but I didn´t believe he could win the Vuelta and most likely he will loose control of his time gap today. 3 CAT1 mountains today!! 3 CAT1 under 36C TODAY!! Lovely...
O'Connor had better ride his own pace. Then always respond to Primoz's rapid accelerations. Towards the end, O'Connor had blown up his legs and suddenly lost a lot of time. At his own pace that would not have happened and he would have lost much less time.
I wonder if Sepp would have had less time loss if he did not burn so much to catch up after the crash. I suppose he got caught up into a group desperately trying to catch up but dropping at the bottom of the last climb was clearly a loss mitigation situation right? He is not sifan hassan in the 1500m. I predict ben loses over 2m tomorrow to Primos and several GC contenders make up some time as well.
Plus, Sepp used a lot of energy yesterday for Wout. It seems Visma had decided before yesterday they weren't prioritizing Sepp for the overall GC. That was a big effort the day before a serious mountaintop finish stage.
Ben showed his cards too early today and Primož like an experienced player used that. Who are the major contenders here now that Almeida is gone besides Rogla? Don't tell me Mas or Landa who gave Contador trouble 10 years ago. This Vlasov has such a bad luck this year.
Can we now stop the lunacy about Ben winning this race? And stop hating Bora for letting him go? Dude lost 23-24 seconds in the last half mile, 46 in the last 1.2 miles. He aint that guy. If he makes the podium, THAT would be amazing.
No doubt the lucky outcome makes him fight, but he would never have conquered the jersey unless it was more or less stolen from Roglic, not by his doing. This is not a weird race, there ought to be suspicion.
It's Sad that Pogachar could of done the treble, yet he gave the other UAE Riders a chance, and not 1 of them in the top 10 after 8 stages, Almeida isn't a 3 week tour rider, he's a domestique with visions of granduer
@@robbyrogersberg1520 you firstly said that he was not a 3 week tour rider and all the facts prove the opposite... about winning a grand tour, yes I can see him winning a grand tour... the same way I can see any other great rider win a grand tour IF Pogi, Jonas, Roglic and Remco are not competing or are not at 100% shape.
What about the UAE disaster in this Vuelta? Del Toro their best man in the GC right now, 17’… a shame not bringing in Ayuso, and it was a mistake to load the team so much for the Tour, Ayuso himself should have been spared especially when you consider he was not so keen on doing domestique work.

Cannot believe organizers or some rich dude in UAE did nott pony up enough money for Tadej to keep the circus going. If he ain't motivated by records then he sure is by dineros!!!
Nah. Pogi already set the season on fire. But it maybe a hard two weeks. 😬🦋
Isreal were riding for woods who crashed with kuss at the bottom of the climb...
Gooooo Roglic..!!!
Perhaps Red Bull keeping the pace high in the previous stage so Ben O’Connor would non have a rest day was not such a bad tactic after all.
Hope Sepp Kuss can show something today.
I want to see Ag2R do nothing on the front and make Bora ride all day. Then maybe Ben has riders left and Roglic has none. 🤔🦋👊🔥🇪🇸
Carapaz doing his usual taxctics not helping at all.
EF were knuckleheads also. How did they think it was going to for them after riding on the front. It’s not like Carapaz is young. 😂🦋🔥
Wondering "what different results?" if the temps were 10°C lower?😮
Yep. Cold would help more riders out. 🤔🦋👍
very exiting :-=
What Tadej and Vingegaard do is amazing, but they are so good it is not even close. But do the competion being a bit closer and the tactics worse this race is cooking
Chris what's your feelings of Felix Gall leaving O'Connor to protect his top 10 placing 🤔 i thought that's breaking rule #1
Well, Gall is actually their GC rider and if they keep riding like today, Gall could still end up in front of him despite the huge advantage O'Connor got from the breakaway. Considering he wouldn't really have made a difference on the steep part, it's only logical to not sacrifice his race further.
@@arroe8386 Yeah, but Ben is still almost 4 minutes up. And Roglic doesn't always stay on his bike. Isn't it a little early to stop sacrificing?
@@angelaboltman2005 For essentially sacrificing for no gain, I'd say no it isn't
I’m kind of ok with it because if Ben cannot follow Gall he won’t win the GC anyways. So I guess I’m ok with it at this moment. If Ben has the jersey and we are late into the third week I would not be. 😬🦋👍🤔
@@ChrisHornerCycling Thanks 👍🏼
I like O´Connor but I didn´t believe he could win the Vuelta and most likely he will loose control of his time gap today.
3 CAT1 mountains today!! 3 CAT1 under 36C TODAY!! Lovely...
Anyone else think Chris Horner would make a great team director?
O'Connor had better ride his own pace. Then always respond to Primoz's rapid accelerations. Towards the end, O'Connor had blown up his legs and suddenly lost a lot of time. At his own pace that would not have happened and he would have lost much less time.
Kuss had enough after the Friday's stage.
Never ever ever ever count Primoz out,EVER!!!
Exactly. Until he crashes he’s always a first page rider. 💪🦋👊
Can’t remember last time I counted him in? How ever it will take a Landisian effort by Bora and Rog, to destroy the field over next 2 weeks!
No talk about Almeida?? 😅
Who's a Beastie Boys fan???? Chris Horner!!! "fight for your right to paaaaarty!" 😀👍
No sleep til 😂🦋👊
Do race organizers actually do that... tweak expectations by mis-categorizing climbs? That is a cheeky move if I ever saw one.
I don’t know but that was certainly a cat1. 😱🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling Yes, especially since it was at the end of the race. Crazy
👍Primos🚴
💪🦋
Of course Roglic will win. Remember LeMond clawed back 10 minutes on Claudio Chiapucci in the 1990 Tour.
I think i watched the race for 30 mins and thought how strong ag2r is until realising its israel on the Front 😂
Same!
I hate the two jerseys looking the same. Gets me often. Not today but often. 😂🦋
Ben showed his cards too early today and Primož like an experienced player used that. Who are the major contenders here now that Almeida is gone besides Rogla? Don't tell me Mas or Landa who gave Contador trouble 10 years ago. This Vlasov has such a bad luck this year.
The problem Roglic has is his whole team. Can they control the peloton. 😱🦋🤔
If I am Primož from now on I am giving whoever can ride with me a free victory if they can pull to get some time on Ben.
Mass, Landa and Kuss can do that.
Can we now stop the lunacy about Ben winning this race? And stop hating Bora for letting him go? Dude lost 23-24 seconds in the last half mile, 46 in the last 1.2 miles. He aint that guy. If he makes the podium, THAT would be amazing.
UAE without clear leader
Stage hunters 🤔🦋
Knucklehead count: 3
And I was very nice to EF. 😂🦋👊
You're not a first-page rider! 😂
Well. It’s true. 😂🦋👊
No doubt the lucky outcome makes him fight, but he would never have conquered the jersey unless it was more or less stolen from Roglic, not by his doing. This is not a weird race, there ought to be suspicion.
😊
3ATGL 👊🦋🏆🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Just glad UAE aren't gonna win this one
I wish they would have been in it longer though. 🥲🦋👍
Roglic looks poised to do what he does best - crash in week two and bonk in week 3 😜
😱🦋🤞
It's Sad that Pogachar could of done the treble, yet he gave the other UAE Riders a chance, and not 1 of them in the top 10 after 8 stages, Almeida isn't a 3 week tour rider, he's a domestique with visions of granduer
🥲🦋
yeah... Almeida is not a 3 week tour rider... he has just finished 4th on Tour and was 3rd at last year's Giro 😂😂😂😂
LOL
@77xpto I cant ever see him winning 1 ,can you?
@@robbyrogersberg1520 you firstly said that he was not a 3 week tour rider and all the facts prove the opposite... about winning a grand tour, yes I can see him winning a grand tour... the same way I can see any other great rider win a grand tour IF Pogi, Jonas, Roglic and Remco are not competing or are not at 100% shape.
2nd

Top five 👊🦋🦋
like the commentary but with no video it’s boring
What about the UAE disaster in this Vuelta? Del Toro their best man in the GC right now, 17’… a shame not bringing in Ayuso, and it was a mistake to load the team so much for the Tour, Ayuso himself should have been spared especially when you consider he was not so keen on doing domestique work.
Maybe he is being punished
