Without Runrig I probably wouldn't have had such a huge interest in Scotland even most of my family originating from there, it's impressive what they've done, sadly wasn't able to go though I definitely intended to even wanted to was devastated to not being able to go to even the tour of this so massive thanks to you and take care and glad you obviously enjoyed it!
Honestly since I was actually born in England do take my Scottish (being that most of my family coincidentally and both sides originated from Scotland) yeah very proud of my Scottish roots big time and can fully see why Bruce is too! I'd even say I am a fan of him as well he's a total fucking legend that lad!

I even am a descendant of Clan Bruce though actually not being originally Scottish the Clan's from Normandy in France, or like it should be I still think well not literally but as past events as such lol since the reign died out after King David, was and still is by some considered to be House of Bruce more than it is a Clan since Robert de Bruce in 1306 who started the Royal line until his death in 1329 and then his certainly eldest son David from 1329-1371.
I certainly identify more as a Bruce than I do the other end of my family not sure why but yeah it's interesting essentially my Grandmother from my Fathers side her maiden name was Bruce even my 1st middle name Andrew is after her father Andrew Bruce, great solid name is Bruce certainly!
I would love one day in my life to pledge allegiance to the Clan.

@Anne Berit Skoglund Larsen Ah thats cool and thanks for responding aye I'm a descendant of that clan exactly that being Bruce, my grandmother my dads mothers father whom I'm partially named after with my 1st (have two middle names the other thing Thomas) middle name being Andrew, after Andrew Bruce.
More though regarded as House of Bruce than it is a Clan (the word clan roughly translated as children), from 1306-1371 with Robert I starting off from 1306-1329 when he died and then his only heir being David II from then until 1371. Was then rather when Marjorie Bruce Robert I's daughter who married Walter Stewart (the 6th High Steward of Scotland, ruled I believe whilst David II was in his minority, who gave rise to the name Stewart (Stuart in French) founded essentially the Clan, their son succeeded David II as he spent most of his time incarceration/captivity so wasn't able to produce an heir.
Many years some 300 years later after compared to Robert I James VI (Stewart) succeeded Elizabeth I making James a distant minor I suppose relation to the Bruce's.
Was James who made here where I was born and live in 1604 form a City Council in Ripon.

Because of the term being a Wakeman before a law enforcement really existed in the form of now a police force, it was the former church which kept restraint over the Wakeman, without it after the result of the English Reformation it removed the restraining hand over the Wakeman to which they just created laws as they saw fit and had no repercussions so James had enough of that and made Ripon finally sort itself out and appoint a Mayor along with them heading the first City Council.
He actually made several visits here including staying in whats called Thorpe Prebend House on what's now St Agnesgate, spent a while (nearly 20 years) in a place close to here, but have come back now least now I fully appreciate this place and feel its truly where I belong :)
The first mayor being Hugh Ripley was the former Wakeman so then he thought with the chains of being a mayor would get tangled up in the straps of the horn (blowing a horn from the four corners of what was once the market cross a little further north of the market sq. than what is now the Obelisk to commemorate the former Hornblowers/wakemen so he appointed someone to do the job for them but for them to report back to him as he didnt fully trust them, something that still happens now, some 200 years approx later after Ripon (or what became that name began with an I the name) was in the year 864, Ripon formed from the Arch Bishop and Noble of the Anglian Kingdom of Northumbria as it was back then before even England or indeed scotland I'd expect even existed lol.
The English Reformation being the creation of the Church of England and removing it out of the law of the Pope as such and the dissolution of the monasteries, subsequently during Elizabeth I to put Mary Queen of Scots on the throne what became called the Rising of the North 300 out of some 600 were hung from Gallows Hill here.

Thing about the Hornblower now it's on a rota has been purely ceremonial since there's now a police force, least since the 1800s, there's four of them currently on a rota, been doing ever since the year 864, including 365 (366 in a leap year yes even Christmas day) at 9pm when the Wakeman would take their post and protect Ripon through the night until approximately 4am in the morning, even on the Town Hall banner at the top ridge is EXCEPT YE LORD, KEEP YE CITIE, YE WAKEMAN, WAKETH IN VAIN meaning in sort of Yorkshire speak as it means nothing by now Appeasing (suppose could call it that) to god to give A peaceful night.
ruclips.net/video/L-nE07Cg35U/видео.html thats one of the former ones.
A more accurate depiction film about Robert I (Outlaw King) that being a character in that time being James Douglas, Lord of Douglas aka The Black Douglas what Paul Schoefield said in that video rather was his army which went around northern cities in England burning them to the ground was the likes of him really lol ruclips.net/video/BWUJOiGSips/видео.html
At the time in the video there at the time 2.27 to the left of James is supposed to be Aonghus Óg Domhnaill (MacDonald, if I can remember what the actor who's supposed to be playing him looks like) Clan Chief of Donald when Robert I was coronated they were ambushed so they fled to Islay and went under the refuge of Clan Donald have tremendous respect for that Clan as a result of that! (being the Gáidhlig name for Angus and Domhnaill being or Domhnáill being Donald Mac being the same or Mc being the same as the Irish O' meaning child/children/son of....).
Is a sort of a version of the Bruce's coat of arms is what my avatar is sort of, isn't a proper one though I don't think, the flag certainly is red with the yellow X and has a blue lion (symbolising royalty) in the top right corner.

@Anne Berit Skoglund Larsen Never during watching that scene have I ever thought of taking off my shoe and throwing it at the character at the time being the Prince of Wales head, Robert I by then's brother.
