Many thanks for your message! I've been following your build of the widebody car, I liked the technique you used on the leaf springs, I'm currently working on the rear springs on my car and trying to drop them another inch or so. Delighted to hear that you've found some of the videos useful. If there's anything I can help with don't hesitate to ask, I'll give you a mention in the next video too.
Great idea to do an overview. It is an immaculate car btw. A similar overview of your race series would be interesting, perhaps covering locations, points system, eligability. A race day film would also be great content, showing; the pack up, transportation, unloading, the tools you take, scrutinering, setting up and checking the car, any problems, race plan, then a small amount of quali and race footage. Include any of the people that help you on race day, it's always great to understand who's forms the extended team of any RUclipsr. Plus potentially for the over seas trips, how long do you go for, where do you stay, do you speak Flemish or French, if so some of that content. Wishing you all the best for 2021 and don't forget to post your dates in advance.
Many thanks James, a few people had asked for a walk around of the car, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tried to shoot a video in 2020 covering a race weekend, the problem is that there is a lot going on and my mind is too much on other things. If I can shoot some footage I think it would be great for the channel to cover what happens on a typical race weekend. equipeclassicracing.com/
Happy new year ! Hopefully 2021 will be the end of the covid era... I also want to thank you for your very helpful video of the full suspension rebuild, thanks to your video the rebuild of my suspension finished well. Many thanks, and as always : safety fast in 2021 !
Thx David enjoyed the video ,also enjoyed the conversation a few Sundays ago with Matt and yourself ,I did do the transmission oil change on my 77 B it was very easy as you said and heating the oil worked a treat .going to do tie rod ends & new boots tomorrow .Happy new year and good luck with racing your impressive B next year hopefully more races !
Many thanks Andy, it was great to chat to you a few weeks ago. Really glad to hear that the transmission oil change went well. Not quite sure what the 2021 season will bring, we have a very full schedule so far, just depends which races go ahead.

Thank you for sharing the details on the racing modifications, I have been curious all along. Perhaps some day you could video a practice lap and share your tips on racing. Great channel, keep up the good work!
Well Done David on getting to 2000 subs!! You got such a lovely MGB, it's a real credit to you. Hopefully 2021 will be a bit kinder to us all, and we can get out and enjoy the cars more!! Happy New Years mate, and all the best in 2021!!
Love the video! I really enjoyed the walk around. I really admire your car and it makes me question if I want to keep my 78 B how it is or turn it into more of a race car like yours. Keep up the videos!
Excellent walk round of a beautifully prepared car. I would be most interesting to know the car valuation. I await your next video with interest by which time I hope to have my restoration roadster delivered!
Many thanks for your kind message, delighted to hear that you enjoyed the video. Currently in the UK Appendix K MGB's like mine are selling between £30-£50K. Those with period history do sell for considerably more.
@@davidrussellwilks Hi Thanks for your reply. Am off to Beaver circuit in Pattaya tomorrow with my son’s hot turbo classic mini which should be fun. Do you prepare race MGBs as I hope to do some track stuff with mine in the UK when try complete it.
I only look after my own car, I can recommend some people if you are looking to take your car out on the circuit. Were you thinking of track days or racing?
@@davidrussellwilks Hi Again. Back in the UK again. Managed a spin in the mini before I left. BIRA Circuit (not Beaver circuit) which was fun. My MGB is being built as a road/track car. Can you advise or suggest my best wheel and tyre options or if I should have different combinations for each, or should I have at least an MGOC/MGCC legal combination? I have also been asked what I want to do about seats and trim? Sorry to pester but your car looked so well finished and you are clearly exceptionally knowledgeable I thought it worth asking!!
What a lovingly maintained race car. It’s a credit to you. So nice to see that the series you run in try’s to keep things original, rather than allowing the Frankenstein resto-mod approach. Given that I saw your 0-60 dash clip earlier, I was wondering what sort of figures that engine produces?
Many thanks Paul, peak torque is around 139 lbf.ft, power is 160BHP. Keeping the cars fairly original is certainly a good thing in my view, it also means we don't have to spend a lot of money on upgrades each year!
Wonderful to give insight and valuable information about our cars. On rear brakes, standard wheel cylinders or the oversized ones? Upgraded rear shoes? Brand please, never ever seen theses.
Many thanks for your message Wallis, with the rear brake cylinders the "upgraded" ones are actually smaller, the idea being to put more braking effort to the front of the car. However I have found that I am locking up the front wheels at the moment so I'm trying a standard wheel cylinder for 2022. The upgraded rear shoes were from Moss, but looking on their website now they don't apprear to stock them any longer. I'm not sure if there is much benefit over standard, it might be that these are a bit harder wearing and can with stand temperatures a bit better. In the UK Cambridge Motorsport do have a few competition shoes available cambridgemotorsport.com/classic-historic/12579-mgb-competition-brake-shoe-set-mintex-lined.html
Just re-watched this for the second time, great video as always! Would you mind letting me know what oil pressure/water temp gauge you're running please?
The small gauges in the car are all from Farringdon instruments, they are digital/electronic type that run off sensors rather than the original mechanical type www.farringdoninstruments.com/
Looking real good, congrats. I am building /rebuilding a MGB -GT for racing. Just wonder where did you got the spill tank. And why you did not go for the 15 Inch rims. Nice channel... subed
Many thanks for your message, the catch tank is from www.alloyracingfabrications.com/ in the UK. It's my own design, pretty basic: It vents through the cap, I would also say there is no point adding a sight gauge or a drain to these, just empty it out after every season. As for the wheels, class rules allow for 14 inch only, I would use 15 if I could. Hope all goes well with your build, don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions
Thanks for your message Jeff, the car is sort of a 1965! It was build on a new heritage shell, with a 5 bearing engine and 4 synchro gearbox from a later car. The dashboard and windscreen are original but much of the car has been replaced, or changed for racing purposes.
David, thank you for the great videos, love watching them. I’ve got a ‘78 B de-bumpered B with a 1840 fast road engine that I hillclimb. I’m in the process of removing excess weight. I hope you don’t mind me asking but where did you source the acrylic windows from? Also, you’ve removed the entire heater unit, just wondering if there’s any issues around that? I run the car in a road going class but really only do a few 100 miles max a year on the road, hill climbing is short circuit driving of only about 5 minutes of track time per day so there’s no excessive prolonged running of the engine as there is in circuit racing!
Thanks for your message Mark, I made the windows myself (with some help from my Brother) Using the old windows as a template we cut the acrylic to the same size. The edges were then routered to give them radiused edges just like the original. There is no winder mechanism, the windows support themselves. From memory they are around 5mm thick, just a bit thicker than the originals. The heater removal is straightforward enough, you just need to blank the take off on the side of the engine. Again the blank is custom made, but is just a flat piece of aluminium so very easy to do. I don't run a cooling fan on my car, but you might need one if you drive the car on the road, it heats up very quickly at a standstill!
@@davidrussellwilks thank you for the tips. I was concerned about removing the entire heater but as I run a fan I guess it’s ok as you say. I’m going to have a test run on the windows. I’d love a closer look around the car. If you race at Silverstone I might pop over. Cheers
Hi David, a minor item but all the removable hardtops you race with impress me! I’ve acquired a second-hand one, the same as yours and your colleagues. Where pray tell do you find parts such as rubber seals, fasteners etc.? Over here I’ve only found a Mom & Pop shop that has some parts but not all. Thx
Thanks for your message Bruce, unfortunately a lot of the seals and fixings are no longer available. When I refreshed my hard top a few years ago I found www.sealsdirect.co.uk/ very useful, it was a case of seeing which rubber profile were closest to the originals, I was able find a few latches atc from Moss Europe.
Great car!!! I have a couple of questions about your oil catch can set up. As far as I can tell, the oil fumes don’t flow over the valves to be burned in the cylinder. Seems like the perfect venting situation to me. Is the hole going into the valve cover the same size as stock? I am currently running an oil catch can in my B, can I use that set up on a stock engine or will it cause too much internal pressure? Thanks
Thanks for your message Lou, the catch can is a requirement for racing to stop the oil from the engine breather getting onto the circuit. You can just use a crank case breather attached to the tappet chest instead. In my car the oil catch tank is vented through the cap
Thanks for your message, the car is built on a heritage shell, whilst it has the narrow tunnel fitted no modification was required to fit the 4 synchro 'box. With an original 3 synchro shell some modification is required to fir the 4 synchro 'box.
