It was so funny! All I could think was that he was such a smart ass--and wonder if that was part of the true-life story! There were some great lines in the movie.
I went into the movie knowing literally nothing about it except that it was "the one with Dinesh". Knowing nothing about it made it an awesome experience.
well he does know quite a lot about film and he did like the movie. I was just calling issue to him being slightly disappointed bc of the sundance hype, did the same with Manchester by the Sea as well
Knowing about movies doesn't make one a good critic. It is how one chooses to use that movie knowledge is what makes him/her a good critic. And this guy's reason to criticize the movie was just really senseless.
I really wish you'd just review the movie on its own merits. I really don't give a shit about what people said at Sundance. I understand that you might be inundated with that stuff, but most of us are not.
This is part 3 in the Indian/Pakistani men dating trilogy along with Master of None and that Ravi Patel documentary about arranged marriage. I thought this movie was very funny and just worked on all levels. The actress was great and the way it is written delivers some great emotional punches. 9/10.
Someone should remind these critics that 99.99 percent of audience members don't go to Telluride or Sundance to hear about the greatness of these movies. I just don't hear this because I don't go to these festivals because I'm not in the industry.
I am soooooo tired of critics slamming Judd Apatows length of his films. Like Roger Ebert once said, no good movie is to long. I love the length Apatow uses in his films.
I thought this felt just right. When I first heard how long it was, I was surprised--but then it went by so quickly for me! I didn't have a problem with the length at all.
I like the movie very much. But I'm glad I had not heard anything about the story first. I didn't know it was a true story I didn't know... what happens. I think it's best if you don't know.
Howabout While You Were Sleeping? I haven't seen PS I Love You but I know her husband is dead in that and she grows as a person afterward. It's not a gender specific thing.
formsMostBeautiful whether it's based on a true story or not, it's still a recurrent theme and, therefore, a trope. He's not saying it in a negative way, just noting it is a trope. It is what it is.
I agree it should have shown things from her perspective while she was comatose. I left the film literally shaking with rage at this gross misstep by the filmmakers.
a person in a coma is unconscious and will not respond to voices, other sounds or any sort of activity going on nearby. If they did create scenes from the point of view of a comatose it would have been a blank screen.
5ergio 6arcia i subbed for game of thrones and walking dead reviews. Aside that I watch few other reviews now and then. im assuming im not alone in that. maybe thats why they get too many views.
In some of their reviews I've seen, they tend to shoehorn their political views where it doesn't belong. Something like that is really off-putting to a lot of viewers whether we agree or disagree with the panelists.
"we lost 19 of our best men"
Sovereign Sentience
Great line! My theater was so loud I couldn't hear the next 60 secs
It was so funny! All I could think was that he was such a smart ass--and wonder if that was part of the true-life story! There were some great lines in the movie.
I lol'ed to this in the theater...as did 4-5 other people.
He meant fire fighters, right?
I went into the movie knowing literally nothing about it except that it was "the one with Dinesh". Knowing nothing about it made it an awesome experience.
Sam Goldstein literally the same for me, except I heard it got good reviews and I know bo burnham was in it
Alonso, I love you man, but you shouldn't put hype against a movie. It's not their fault that you heard a lot of over the top buzz
well he does know quite a lot about film and he did like the movie. I was just calling issue to him being slightly disappointed bc of the sundance hype, did the same with Manchester by the Sea as well

Doesn't feel like a 2 hour movie as you are so enjoying these characters. Judge the movie not the hype
Revenge rhymes with Stonehenge.
Haha, that's great! I couldn't think of anything!
J.A. Contes avenge also rhymes with Stonehenge
RIGHT! I thought of this immediately. Ray Romano sucks at this game.
A lot of words do.
I really wish you'd just review the movie on its own merits. I really don't give a shit about what people said at Sundance. I understand that you might be inundated with that stuff, but most of us are not.
I hope they play "Girlfriend in a Coma" from the Smiths in this film.
It's not 500 Days of Summer so no

While I love Ben on TYT, what was his purpose here as he obviously hadn't seen the movie?
They do these in blocs. He might not have seen this one but he just didn't get up. He must have seen the next one they're reviewing. Or the previous..
Class up the place. 🎩
Just finished watching. This movie was fucking amazingggg! Everybody needs to see it.
4:25 - "And he's dating this white gi- WOMAN, and uh..." Oh Christie, that was almost bad. :D
Wat was the intended gi.... Word. I didn't get it
The scene where he talks with his parents about Islam has got to be one of my favorite scenes of the whole year
How is it the film's fault that people have been hyping it up? It feels like Alonso will just look for any reason to hate a film.
It's not the film's fault. Alonso just can't help himself. He's a human after all.
Someone should remind these critics that 99.99 percent of audience members don't go to Telluride or Sundance to hear about the greatness of these movies. I just don't hear this because I don't go to these festivals because I'm not in the industry.
Alonso Duralde, I'm so glad that a critic KNOWS about the woman-in-refrigerator trope! =)
I am soooooo tired of critics slamming Judd Apatows length of his films. Like Roger Ebert once said, no good movie is to long. I love the length Apatow uses in his films.

Movie Lover206 The LOTR movies are my all time favorite films and those are FREAKING LONG!
His movies tend to run a bit too long though...Funny People being the prime example.
I like the movie very much. But I'm glad I had not heard anything about the story first.
I didn't know it was a true story I didn't know... what happens.
I think it's best if you don't know.
So Ben didn't see it. Oh the nostalgia..
Trailer sold me.
Why is Ben even sitting there?
I loved this movie I think it is the best movie of the year so far. I wish that Ben was in on the conversation about this movie.
Lol Sideways is a masterwork, Christy😛
Howabout While You Were Sleeping? I haven't seen PS I Love You but I know her husband is dead in that and she grows as a person afterward. It's not a gender specific thing.
Alexander Forbes While You Were Sleeping is one of the best romantic comedies out there
Really looking forward to seeing this film!
Woman in a coma... kinda like The Descendants... another Payne movie
Andrew Buck I feel like big sick actually dealt with the coma story better
Best comedy flick since The Nice Guys and/or 22 Jump Street and/or Relatos salvajes.
One of the first times I agree with Alonso. This is a good movie without question, but It was severally overhyped for me.
@5:28
Lol. So apparently telling a true story isn't enough to escape accusations you're using sexist tropes.
formsMostBeautiful whether it's based on a true story or not, it's still a recurrent theme and, therefore, a trope. He's not saying it in a negative way, just noting it is a trope. It is what it is.
So that's what you decided to focus on? Out of the whole positive review that's what your mind grasped.
I agree it should have shown things from her perspective while she was comatose. I left the film literally shaking with rage at this gross misstep by the filmmakers.

I was joking
Why didn't Prismo just heal his girlfriend. With a pickle or something...
I agree that it was a bit too long.
Like many movies it could lose 20 minutes. I don't get it, why do moviemakers do this? Anyway, I enjoyed it most of the time.
It was a shit predictable dull movie.
7 alonso come on
How often did Zoe wear the overalls in the movie? And in those overalls scenes, was she barefoot in them?
Did you ever find out?
Looks like you have a specific kind of fetish.
I thought this was terrible.
Really glad Ben was able to be here, I never noticed how little he can contribute before.
You're managing to contribute even _less._
He's been doing the main TYT channel almost exclusively for a while. You know it's going to be a good movie when Ben reviews it b on this channel.
Apt review and Ben works.
'Sideways' is great!! More than good
I agree. I love "Sideways." But then again, I loved "Bottle Shock" and "A Good Year" so maybe I just love movies about wine :)
Sideways made me wish I liked the taste of wine.
sideways is my least favorite payne, but still good.
I actually liked this better,
I fucking hated this film
Alonso has a streak going of disliking critical darlings.
this channel has almost 200K subs and can barely get 1K views?
5ergio 6arcia i subbed for game of thrones and walking dead reviews. Aside that I watch few other reviews now and then.
im assuming im not alone in that. maybe thats why they get too many views.
I'm the opposite. I subscribed for the movie reviews. Besides GoT I don't care about any of the tv show reviews.
It's because they are so inconsistent. Sometimes they consistently do reviews...other times, they are missing for months.
People don't all watch videos as soon as they come out.
In some of their reviews I've seen, they tend to shoehorn their political views where it doesn't belong. Something like that is really off-putting to a lot of viewers whether we agree or disagree with the panelists.
Sorry... NOT a great movie, in my opinion ..
Oooh, Judd Apatow's involved in this? I don't know that I'll ever forgive him for that vomitous show he had on HBO, urgh
Gangrel Aussie If it helps, all he did was encourage Kumail and Emily to write their story, and another guy, Michael Showalter directed
I really loved this film
this looks like it might be either funny or really annoying
Funny for sure!
seems like 50/50
Overhyped indeed. The jokes were pretty bad.
I couldn't ignore how Kumail weirdly talks like a little boy.
Looks very lame....don't waste your time.....maybe on netflix.
rick grimes I went in not knowing anything except a couple actors. It was great
"MUSLIM APOLOGISTS!"
It's always the Hindus.
