My auntie lived in a prefab and I was always envious. There was a real hue and cry when they were pulled down and people rehoused. No one wanted to move and they were very happy in these little houses. That brings back memories. I never met anyone who wanted to move, but they had no say in the matter. It was in my aunt's prefab that I first heard a record of Elvis Presley singing One Night With You. Really enjoyed your continuing walk around the museum.
I don't think I'd have wanted to move either - they seemed like the perfect little homes. I liked reading about your first Elvis Presley experience. :¬)
@@PlanetImo i lived in a prefab in sighthill in edinburgh it looked like this one but the inside cupboards were pressed metal. even tthe wardrobes . the washing machine in the kitchen was actually a gas boiler the vent its the black thing on the side tere was a big round burner underneath that we were scared of . the fridge was a gas one they rarely worked mines stored my easter eggs lol . we had coal double door stoves with mica windows . .
I grew up with my grandparents in the 60's and 70's in two corrugated asbestos prefabs in Pantyrawel, Ogmore Valley, South Wales - at 13 Hillside Terrace then 3 Dan-yr-Heol. One after the other, of course (not at the same time, haha). Very fond memories. Cosy and warm from the coal fire. Small outside but big inside - well designed. Three doors opening out to the front, back and one side of the building. Two decent sized bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom and central passageway with airing cupboard. How did they fit all that into one little building? We had lots of Wartime Utility Furniture that I love and now reproduce. Also had a washing machine with a mangle to squeeze the water out of the laundry after being washed. When they built new houses for us to move into, I found wartime gas masks in the cavity behind the airing cupboard.
Wonderful Video. Truly enjoyed exploring with you. The 1950's home looks quite a bt like my grandmothers house. I believe that was a bed jacket on the bed.
Ahhh so that's what it was. Thank you so much, Chari! These sorts of videos don't do so well on my channel. People tend to prefer the grocery shopping vlogs! 🤣 But I prefer to make these ones and the musicy ones.
Imo..here in Southport we still have prefabs..they have been modernised with a layer of brickwork over the whole building and a nice new roof..I haven't been inside one of these buildings but would imagine the inside has been modernised too..they make a lovely bungalow..hubby lived with his family as a young boy in a prefab in London..his Mum loved it..What a lovely vlog..we went to St Fagans a few yrs ago..💐
Loved this imo love old houses and buildings love history I used to watch how we used to live at school and the victorian farm 🚜 great video look forward to the next one donnyx
Thanks so much, Donny. I love making these sorts of vids but I’m actually missing making the daily life ones now and looking forward to getting back to that in the morning! X
A washing machine??? In your dreams! In our prefab it was the copper boiler where the water was heated by the a back boiler in the open fireplace. On washdays the fire had to be lit all day, good in the winter but a furnace in the summer! However the sheets and nappies were a beautiful white from so much boiling and the little reckitts blue bag! Sheets and tablecloths were starched to within an inch of their life. The built in Prestcold fridge was a real luxury as was a bathroom and (in our prefab) a separate toilet. All the cupboards and units were metal, cream and green seemed to predominate. A huge garden all the way round each prefab and I was a very happy child.
I always seem to live in house that are at least a hundred years old. The first home I bought was built in 1857 by a pioneer fellow who was a covered wagon - oxen driver. One of the first houses built in Oregon. There is even a plaque on the front door accrediting me with it's discovery. I must say it was a challenge living there.
I have fond memories when I walk into Rhydycar cottages in St Fagan’s, my grandmother was born and lived there until they flooded and subsequently demolished in 1979. She was the youngest of 10 children, so there were 12 of them living in one cottage (it must have been a bit cramped though 😂)
Thank you so much for the prefab tour. I live in the exact same type (AIROH) in Paisley, Scotland and it's fantastic to see how my house would've looked when new.
interesting thank you ❤when i was little my parents had a prefab in Plymouth at kingstamerton we had a fitted kitchen Gas cooker and Gas Fridge , the garden was massive our shed was a Anderson Air-raid shelter we had a metal cloths line 😂 i used to love swinging on it 😂 mum used to hide money in a hole in the Airing cupbard well when we moved out in the early 1960s dear mum forgot she had hidden the money 😢
Hi Imo, another brilliant video, the sheep were funny with the faces they had LOL,this reminds me of the Avoncroft Museum in Worcester with buildings similar to this.
I hope you indulged in one of the fabulous fire baked scones at the bake house. Love the bread and the cheesy rolls plus the cold fashioned sweets also..
For the life of me i cant understand why this type of housing isn't used to day? It would solve a lot of housing problems and homelessness? Relatively cheap to construct and erect? And a very realistic solution to the interim housing shortages! Untill we are able to build enough accommodation bfor all British citizens? I live in Wales nand where i live im quite literally surrounded by prefabricated house's?and to be honest even though i own my own house? It wouldn't bother me at all if i had to live in a prefabs house ? Home is what you make it ? And as long as it's warm and dry? ( Well thats all you need to be happy and content)? I know a lot of people who liv in prefabs either the bungalow type or a three bedroom type house ,all prefabricated Nothing wrong with them at all? Meny of the prefab residents i know love these home's ! And let's face it with today's technology and modern materials, practically anything is possible? We could in Britain , have some very nice prefabricated housing ! Respectful and dignified housing enough for everyone? At relatively low cost! In this day and age everyone in the UK should be able to have a home of their very own? No matter how much they can afford or not afford? Everyone is entitled to have warm dry comfortable place to be.
Here's a playlist to some of my other St Fagans vlogs:

I think the prefab is my favourite house there. I too could happily live in it 🤗
Me too! It’s so cosy and homely!!

It's like travelling back in time! I can almost see myself living in that 1950s house

It sounds lovely. I think I'd honestly feel quite happy living in one as long as it was warm enough. Thanks for sharing your story. :¬)

Me too! Mine are always old! The old houses have their quirks, all right. I wouldn't mind a new build at all!

Gosh it MUST have been crowded! That’s amazing to hear that you have a personal connection. I loved reading about that. :-)
Thank you so much for the prefab tour. I live in the exact same type (AIROH) in Paisley, Scotland and it's fantastic to see how my house would've looked when new.

Hi Imo, another brilliant video, the sheep were funny with the faces they had LOL,this reminds me of the Avoncroft Museum in Worcester with buildings similar to this.
That sounds right up my street! I hope I can go some time. Thanks so much for watching. 😃
Absolutely love places like this that take you back in time to the way things used to be! Made me smile when you compared IB to erm cattle! 🤣👍💕
He hasn’t seen this yet! Tee hee! 🐄
Watching from Canada.
Very nice. I look forward to part three!
Thanks 😊
Just exporting it now ready for tomorrow.

Aw, thank you so much! x
The older places seemed less comfortable. The 50s one had great comfy chairs.
It did look so comfy and inviting, didn't it?!
I hope you indulged in one of the fabulous fire baked scones at the bake house. Love the bread and the cheesy rolls plus the cold fashioned sweets also..
I indulged in a coffee… I might have to go for a scone next time. Thanks so much! X
@@PlanetImo They are v yummy especially with salty butter and jam. You can taste a bit of the wood smoke from the bake house.
Love St Fagans!
Me too!!! Thanks so much, codmate. 😊
My husband's dad was brought up in a pre-fab after the end of the war
Just love those horror sheep protecting from goblins and pookies. Lol.
Good video. Continue on your road on getting the silver play button

Oooh thank you. Could you see yourself living in one of those prefab bungalows? I could! They look super cosy!

Aw, you're not late - people can watch the videos when ever they want to. Thanks, Owen. I hope you're well.
I'm a bit of a history buff and I don't think they had electric radiators in the 1600's :)
Hee hee hee! I think you could be right!
So enjoying this bring on part three.
Less of the slightly unnerving sheep please. Baaaaaaa 🐏🐑🐑🐑🐑
Thanks! x
They are some seriously scary sheep
They are! They were very entertaining, though!
