  • Two visits to Glendon Junction(north of Kettering)in February 1987 with HST's(some diverted onto the southbound slow line), a couple of 56's on Bardons, 47 on Mk1's, DMU charter, and a fleeting glimpse of a spruced up 'Peak' flying past!
    My next upload will be from the same location(no longer a junction anymore)only filmed 26 years later in February 2013, and feature HST's once more, but also a Class 31, Class 37, and two Class 73's!

    another great classic collection - lovely shots, awesome sounds from the Valentas and superb sound of a Grid working hard at speed and also on tick-over with the Valenta screaming past then the Grid taking the load. Great clag captures as well - great capture of the DMU daisy chain as well

    My thanks for posting this video,
    A happy 21 minutes has been spent watching trains go by
    The HST really is the most beautiful of machines

    Thank you. Some of the HST's were diverted onto the slow line as the southbound mainline platform at Kettering station(a few miles south of here)was being worked on, so passengers had to alight on the slow line platform instead.

    Thank you for watching. One of the greatest success stories for trains in this country the HST, a classic design in 1976 and still today - I doubt the new IEP will be such a classic!

    Excellent video Darren. Can't believe that the MML used to be like this! Great sounds from the valenta HST's and the 56's thrashing away, lovely midland signalbox too.

    Brilliant,absolutey brilliant ,this era was the last of great British rail services as we knew it . Thanks for sharing .

    Thanks Keith. Of course the box and semaphores have gone, but other than a change in the track layout and the trees having grown, many of these shots are still possible today.

    Great shots, nice blast from the past. 47 on a rake of Mark 1's, brings back memories. Grid clag! Monster collection of class 253's and 4's, even a Tyseley Class 116/127 combo in there! Great.

    Thanks Hayden. It was like this indeed, and going back further into my youth i can remember 20's on minerals, 25's on the 'Brickliner', 44's on coal, plus the regular 45's and 47's on passenger, parcels, and freight, with sometimes 37's or even a 40 passing through!

    Thanks Steve - and another old video coming up for this weekend of course :-) I did indeed manage to visit the signalbox at Glendon North Junction when i was much younger, sadly before video was available.

    Thanks Dave. Yes, it doesn't seem like all that long ago - where does the time go! I remember seeing the Bardon green and yellow hoppers when they first appeared and were in mint condition - they've clocked up a few miles and some dents since then!

    That lovely viewpoint with the Spire in the background and of course the position you were in to get that shot say's it all. Then theres the box and Semaphore pegs,, Great selection of traffic etc.. Most enjoyable Darren

    Thanks. Just along from where i used to live and my parents still do. Still got more stuff from the late 1980's to come, including final days of the 'Peaks' on the Midland.

    Thanks Ian. This was all standard stuff for the day of course(the DMU charter being the rare working), but who could've predicted things changing with Merdians and Class 66's becoming the common trains!

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 лет назад

    Thanks. The Tyseley DMU was a surprise indeed, before the days of advance Gen of course! I remember the 'Grids' first appearing on aggregates and MGR workings, and then their changing liveries over the years. There was always something cosy about a nice heated Mk1 coach in the Winter.

    I love the blue and grey era, looks like the intercity exec livery was coming in, valenta engines sounding great. excellent shots of the 56s. lits a shame the railway isn't like this anymore!

    Love the Midland box and semaphores, looks so old world to nowadays, that 56 was hammering nicely at 15:45.

    Funny how Blue/Grey was so boring at the time, but now most of us would love to see a complete rake of Blue/Grey Mk1's/Mk2's behind a matching 37 or 55 :-) Cheers.

    Yet another time warp! Would'nt it be great to see a hst in blue and grey again!
    A great vid mate!

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 лет назад

    Yes, the Blue/Grey era was coming to a close around this time with Inter-City Executive coming in - before that was replaced by the better Intercity Swallow livery. At least we still have the HST's over here now, and they're the better train by far to travel on. Hoping to see a 56 back over here before too long in the form of a DCR 'Grid' on scrap.

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 лет назад

    Yes, there was a junction - Glendon North where the four tracks went to two(the longest stretch of four track line in the country), and Glendon South where the Corby line diverged. It was double track, but was singled to save costs - although it's set to be doubled again and electrified around 2017.

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 лет назад

    A very nice collectors item to have - long as you've got a long enough wall to put it on of course :-)

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 лет назад

    Yes, sadly the signal box and slow lines here were removed as part of rationalisation a couple of years later, and the line from Corby to Kettering singled as well. This line is set to get doubled again and electrified in the future - barring a change of government!

    Which is why they deviate to some HST and why so slow?

    Signalbox's and semaphores are getting rarer all the time now sadly(very few places to get shots similar to this in 2013), but i guess at least 56's are making a comeback :-)

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 лет назад

    Looking back at footage from this era the HST's were a bit of a clag monster back then. I guess it did give them a bit more character, these modern MTU's being a bit dull in comparison - but of course much more efficient.

    WOW I never knew there used to be a junction here. I've always thought the double line continued to Corby. Did this used to be double or has it always been a single branch line?
