Having patrolled with Nyght, Hawt and Light, multiple times over the years, I have a great deal of respect for them and many of the XJL members, I miss getting out their way,
28:24 That same security guard contacted us about 20 minutes after you left to help break up a fight on the sidewalk. It deescalated very quickly, by a helping hand...
Yall are cool as fuck!
I'm really impressed with how well Nyght handled that situation with Manny at the end. The patience and compassion he had is insane. This documentary rules, good work Derrick.
Love seeing how Mega Strange has gone from being a quarantine podcast to producing amazing documentaries like this. Well done Derrick and Jonny! 👏
Thank you so much for this and thanks for the shout out at the end for my comic book!!! You're the real deal!!
So are you Hawt Flash ❤
@@robertreeves9218 As a bouncer i wanna tell you guys you have my utmost respect. We're stuck within the confines of drinking establishment and our job technically ends when the dude gets 20 feet away from our premises. And that is when your job technically begins with them so you guys putting your lives on the line out there is otherworldy. Forget about the muscles and the gadgets. Its your souls that makes you guys real heroes living amongst us.
@@haroonabassi1821 I didn't know that about the 20 feet deal. Good to know!
100%. Been a bouncer and it is sooo frustrating.
It's just pathetic to me that people feel the need to be negative unprovoked, like that jackass who was like "wHy yALl FilMiNg??/?" when he's being recorded by cameras up and down the street, or the guy who walked up on an emergency thinking he was doing good while actively making the situation worse and being hostile.
I've seen a lot of RLSH stuff before but haven't seen much new content after COVID, which is how I came across this video so thanks for making it... also despite a lot of the RLSH community coming off as crazy, dweeby, and not even that effective at times, at least they're physically in the trenches looking to make change and make the world a better place while risking their physical and mental health, they deserve respect for that and it says a lot that they do this stuff for free and focus more on the supporters than the nay sayers.
It would definitely be way too time consuming, but I'd love love to see a documentary from following this group around for a full year. Even just one night where nothing too major happened and I was glued to my screen. Incredible work.
Man this is really uplifting, really inspiring. Especially seeing the respect they get by emergency workers, bouncers, etc. Just people looking out for their fellow man and those in need. Definitely strange, but 🤷 nothing wrong with that lol
I don't know why, but hearing about how this night and group changed Derrick's life was almost life changing for me. It opened up a sort of empathy gateway. Great doc
Fr this one was great. It showed how even small groups of ppl can have a positive effect on a community
^---- this right here!!!! That’s it! Derrick here it is! It’s why we do it! H O P E. The spark when someone understands, everyone can make a difference. You don’t have to be an army. You don’t have to have a million dollars. Sometimes the only thing you can give someone is an ear to listen. But everyone has the ability to make the world a better place. It just takes action.
Honestly, I always thought articles and news segments about real life superheroes were entertaining, but never stopped to think twice about it. These people care greatly for others and truly help just for the sake of helping, it's genuinely very inspirational, and I have gained a new level of respect for them.
I've only just heard of these type of super hero groups. But it's insanely cool to see this side of the operation. I can really see their empathy and want to help people. Reminds me of many different cities safety patrol groups but with a theme. The super hero costumes do get people interested and does help lighten some negative moods.
You get it! Looking silly is part of the de-escalation process 🦸♂️
Cool avatar!
Wow this is an incredible video Derrick. I started with one opinion on these guys but came out with massive respect for them. Great job humanizing these heroes. Next time I'm in San Diego I'll be watching out for them to express my appreciation for what they do!
This episode was incredible. Its cool to see a Non-Podcast format of Mega Strange. Very well executed. The XJL seem like a genuinely good group of people, and it's nice to see people like that so passionate about keep their community safe
I really appreciate what Derrick and Johnny do with this channel, you can tell the amount of love yall put into it. This was next level! Appreciate you Mega Strange!
this was awesome and these dudes are absolute heroes on the right side of history
I would love to see a follow up in like a year from now. This was very heart warming to me.
Holy shit, you guys just took it to another level. Awesome work!!
Really impressive how good they are at deescalating confrontations
Yoooo this is completely left field but I'm lovin it. Derricks face during the zoom call timelapse is gold lmao
This rules, would love more stuff of this nature on the channel (tho obv a lotta work)
I love that the bouncers respect the XJL it kind of painted a picture in my head of nyte being there on a night where there's a brawl and him actually cracking some knuckles and skulls and everyone being like "Holy shit"!
The contrast of how cheesy these ppl appear to how much they are respected by others and the work they do is pretty awesome.
It seems small but the XJL really seems to be making small changes to the bigger picture at hand.
True, earnest empathy. Giving with nothing expected, and legitimately saving lives. Thank you to these wholesome nerds from the bottom of my heart.
This is my favorite episode of mega strange so far
Whoa! I remember posting a comment about this sort of thing on the first episode of Megastrange. Really glad to see this episode finally happen!
even the pros gotta use youtube audio library great vid
tight, i like superheroes
This is an excellently-produced segment of sincere, legitimate journalism. The narration is particularly well-delivered and mixed, it feels like something out of 60 Minutes.
I'll admit, when we first saw the "Extreme Justice!" amidst the chaotic scenes and audio, it felt a little cringy. Then we got the backstory on the group and saw them keep things calm while they enacted some real person-to-person acts of human decency. By the time we actually saw the sign-off in context, I was tearing up. Beautiful showcase of people doing good, and a reminder that it doesn't really take a lot to be more than just a bystander.
This totally rocked. These guys may be goofy but it's clear they all have good hearts and intentions. Would love to see more from them in the future. Maybe yearly mega strange patrols? 🤔
ohhhh I remember seeing the XJL on a cover of San Diego Reader in like 2017
It's interesting how many RLSH dress to look intimidating and like they're ready to throw down. Respect to those who are willing to accept that the costume isn't to look badass, it's to disarm people and let them know you're harmless. Bright colors and friendly faces rather than scary masks and armor.
This crew seems like their hearts are in the right place, and they're doing the best they can within the limits of the law.
Because, let's never forget, in order to really fight injustice... you'd have to be a "villain".
Yooo i was hyped to watch this one after Derrick talked about it on the podcast.
Btw derrick you dont need that shetty music in the back. Just film like a documentary. Go take some pointers from Dan bell
this is sick, make more docs like this!!
Excellent work! Would love to see a follow up in a year or so even if it’s just another patrol or checking up on the crew.
Great video! Thanks Derrick 👻👽🙏
This was awesome! I'm from San Diego and never knew they were doing such great things for the community. Thanks for making me aware.
this was great. really interesting overview of what real life superheroes are all about. music was a little loud during some parts but other than that editing was top notch as always. Derrick your filming was very respectful, I'm sure it's hard to find a balance of making sure you're capturing the right kind of footage while also not being invasive but you nailed it in this dude. I could totally see this video taking off!
Had to share it on my social media stuff and spread the love. SEL(Social Emotional Learning) Day was March 10th and as an educator I always try to push and focus on all the good things going around my students world. They come from an urban environment where crime, drugs, etc surround them. Thank you for sharing and thank you to the Xtreme Justice League for allowing you to show us a side most don't see often.
I love that you celebrate SEL! I am a teacher too! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for the support and for the wonderful comments! Please check us out on the other socials as well!
For some reason, Nyght looks like a more heroic Peacemaker.
Honestly we need more people in the world like the XJL
By far the best podcast episode. I’m loving these on location shoots and interviews but this one got way more involved with the action. Amazing how far this show has evolved in the last 2 years.
This rules! It is a little silly of course. But whatever gets people to help.
I went to help a suicidal friend once. It was scary but I just kept telling myself to be brave like when Luke confronted Vader. Whatever works!
I don't comment at all on RUclips, but I had to. This was next level and really appreciated this episode. Great job and thank you for shinning a spotlight on these super human beings.
Love this episode, hopefully they start posting again
Derrick this is super cool of you to have gone out and made this. I really like how you put this together. I love how you just made this a transparent video, it feels like we spent the night out there with them. i liked that you didnt paint these guys as clowns. this is something thats actually super cool and incredible to have been made and put out. thank you derrick
3:49 lmaooo night vision Derrick looks like a completely different person
You might have done this too well... now everyone is going to want you to do more RLSH episodes! Lol. Thanks for covering this so honestly, Nyght is a friend of mine in the community and I feel he should get more recognition for what he does and how he does it.
Things got a bit hairy with that one dude, but hey.... that's what a good leader is for.
Hell yeah! This is tight!
I really love Mega Strange #4, but Mega Strange #69 just blew me away! This is my new favorite Mega Strange episode.
This was super interesting Derrick, I had no idea they existed! Thank you!
This was legit cool to watch; I'm so glad Mega Strange got to cover it too
I’ve been waiting for this episode. This is incredible. Best episode yet. Hope we get a solo Johnny episode!
This rules, love the more intensely produced documentary type stuff from you guys. It’s always a major treat. These guys are great, classic human decency and high quality character. Doesn’t take a lot to do some good, just a choice to have some concern for your fellow man and not be a bystander. I imagine it takes a lot to do this and not get jaded from the heckling and antics, but I respect Nyght’s perspective that the individual is less to blame than society as a whole, especially when this crew is out there trying to change it how they can.
This was so inspiring to watch, and the editing was top-notch, too. More episodes like this, please!
This was amazingly done and inspiring.
Would love to see more videos like this if you ever continue
wow this is a really impressive production. i love the variety you've maintained with mega strange
This was really cool, Derrick! Great to see this perspective.
Can't wait to see "I became a Real Life Super Hero for a day" next
Really excited to watch this, I could imagine this getting big in the algorithm
That guy at the end was definitely trying to take advantage of the situation. I've seen it on the bus a million times.
This was awesome! Def the best project from Mega Strange so far. (RUclips did try to play an ad on this once every minute though, which was frustrating)
Derrick!! This is amazing!! I'd never checked out any MegaStrange videos before but I'm glad I decided to watch this one. It can be so easy to give in to the despair brought on by the kind of world we live in, but seeing these heroes out there fighting for what's right helps to combat that hopelessness. I hope you make a follow-up on this somewhere down the line!
Absolutely loved this. Those guys are for real heroes.
wow, what an eye opening video! I came in expecting to laugh and make fun of these guys, but as the video went on, it completely changed my perspective. These guys rock, especially Nyght.
Extremely insightful and really hits on the issue of houseless individuals in major cities. Thanks for making such a great episode/documentary!
Thank you for filming and producing this! Super cool to see - I admire them for their passion, patience, and perseverance to do something so selfless and amazing for their city and community.
Loved the video, Thank you!
insane video, thanks for all the effort put in
Was not expecting this but holy crap guys this is a great story and doc :)
Very rad episode! Love seeing humans helping humans and the XJL just being a positive force in the world. Truly inspiring, we really are all in this together.
Derrick this was fantastic. Great work.
This is amazing work, thank you for sharing this!! I would love to see more documentaries on the same or other topics
this was simply cool, huge respect
Derrick, this feels like a Vice video. Good stuff
Great video! Glad you had a memorable time. This video reminded me of the time I got to film Phoenix Jones and his group up in Seattle years ago.
This is a great video, hopefully can go past just regular mega64 audience and seen by more people
Do more of these videos! So good !
Loved this episode and format!
These people seem to be strange but goodhearted. Although you could really tell how they made some people uncomfortable, which I think is understandable.
I'd love to see more deep dives into strange subcultures!
This was an awesome video! Really dug the format and the whole vibe of the XJF. Would love to see more of these types of documentary videos, maybe even a yearly XJF patrol video. Keep killing the game Mega Strange and XJF👌
These guys have balls of steel.
This was a neat little documentary, never heard of these guys before this.
This is really well made! Great stuff!
This is your guys best episode so far! This was awesome!
this is rad! more vids like this
Wasn't expecting this but this was amazing!
Was moved hearing this come up on the podcast and thrilled to see how cool this turned out. Really meaningful piece and would love to see more like this from Mega Strange. Thanks for the cool content. This really hit me.
That was a really great watch! Hope this is the start of a series of documentaries.. just be careful 😅
This was really cool, Derrick.
Great watch, really enjoyed it
This is a great video. Would love more content like this
This was awesome dude
the guy nyght refers to at about 17 minutes was named captain sticky from the 1970s.
It must have been so awkward getting that pepperoni pizza.
You lose the feeling really quick. Most store clerks and bouncers/security know us, so it’s not really a big deal.
It still must have been awkward cuz well you have a bunch of people wearing costumes coming to get pizza and they say they're superheroes and it,s in the middle of the night
This was easily one of my favorite episodes you guys have put out, really heartwarming to watch. 💙
This was so rad to watch
First view!!! Was just watching the podcast and went right over to Meagastrange!!!
This was awesome!
My spiritual awakening for RLSH was in 2010
this is an amazing documentary! I wish it was longer or if it were possible for you to do more videos with those guys or similar videos like this.
This was great!!!
