Fun fact. In the anime they based Yuji's fight scenes on Taido but i think its in the Manga its stated that his grandfather taught him Karate and he picked up the Manji kick somewhere's (the Manji kick is the kicking technique that is used in Taido hence the connection to Taido)
His fights in manga are amazing to read fr. Gege draws the moviments with precision
in the Todo fight, around 4:00, you hear Todo say "Karate"(or at least thats what it sounds like) so yes, you do be right

Taido is just another name for it, the real original martial art is called "taijutsu" which literally translates to "body movement/technique", it strongly focuses on unexpected strikes including the manji kick youve mentioned.
