I hope that eventually Melos become a full-fledged Ultra in the mainline series. Imagine Andro Melos taking off the armor to reveal his Ultra form in UGF 4 or something.
Funnily enough, in one of Ultraman Z Voice Drama (where Mebius train Ultraman Z), Mebius state that he knows Ultraman Melos and Aura (Melos adopted daughter) which mean he is kinda canon in main timeline.. And what make it more interesting is the Andro Melos from the live action show is not an ultra.. he is from Andro race and his father have given Zoffy his armor before giving it to him..

@@jaderabbit898 According to that EP of the voice drama, Z actually taking a battle test and he was required to fight one of the mentor.. Mebius are also there to help the mentors and he told Z that Zoffy, Ultraman Melos and Aura are the mentor that will evaluate Z performance (but Zero show up as his opponent for the test lol).. And yeah, Ultraman Melos is from the Andromeda branch of Intergalactic Defense Force but all the branch came from Land of Light.. I wonder if Ultraman Melos here also have the Andro Melos armor like in the anime and manga.. would be cool and funny to see two Andro Melos at the same time lol..
@@Villagerwarrior I think it’ll be pretty cool for both Melos to be on screen together. Maybe even when the rumors of Fireman, Mirrorman and the likes are coming back to the screen, they may form a ‘canon immigrant’ team in UGF4.

A 2d animated Ultra Series (Besides Joneus which was overshadowed by gundam) has great potential and can do certain aspects the live actions can't pull off. This short film is a small glimpse of it. (P.S maybe Nexus as an anime would be cool.)
Ultraman USA was also a 2d animated ultra series…. Also according to a RUclipsr it was actually gundham that got overshadowed by Ultraman joneus but gundham was more memorable and thus eventually overshadowed the Ultraman.
I think it's better when they try to look less like 2d animation. When they fight in suits the ugly cel shading is less noticeable and I especially like when the animation doesn't just look like raw mo-cap footage or interpolated to 15 fps.

First season almost follows the manga, the animation for normal scenes was janky(trying to emulate 2d animation framerate in 3d) but the action scenes was nicely motion captured by suit actors and looks smoother. Season 2 had better animation, most scenes are animated smoothly but plot was rushed as hell and deviates from the manga completely and suddenly they announce final season already.
It hard to praise something decent when the standard is something of high quality. For a comparison. Most ufotable anime was actually 3d CGI. In comparison to them. No wonder shows lika ajin and Netflix ultraman is being frowned upon with their often stiff looks and no interesting art direction. Yes, instead of emulating 2d, it may have been better for them to just go full 3d like that 3d cgi saint seiya reboot.

And now, this short is being featured on Tsuburaya's RUclips channel for limited time. Shows how much they care for fan's works. Now let's see if they can put Hideaki Anno's fan film in there too. Tho the Season 1 of Ultraman CG series is not something to sneeze at as its pretty good too.
Considering how many things get retconned or change in the Showa Era timeline from Ultraman 1966 - Mebius.. I don't think some continuity error will hurt..💀
I was quite literally just watching Ultraman VS Jackal earlier before watching this video by the time of this comment! :))) I think its a masterpiece of a short that NEEDS an expansion in my opinion. I hope one day, TsuPro does follow up with it.
I hope you are able to also get into the manga this is based on, but if you don't have access to the source material, obviously you can't do much. But still the manga has contributed to the Ultra Series' lore from Amdro Melos to Mega Monster battle. Even Ultraman Mebius owes his design to this series, and had a sequel tie in manga written by the author.
It's a shame how barely any translation was made for the manga.. I've seen some translated page and at least the first chapter of that arc translated..
I read the manga before and it is really good and very dark since, in the beginning, the Ultra Brothers were killed off one by one by Jackal, leaving Zoffy and Andros Melos to fight against impossible odds. But if you want to see how badass Zoffy is and why he is the leader of the Ultra Brothers, this is the story. A proper 2D Ultraman anime which I suggest is Ultraman Story Zero which is the origin story for the first 7 Ultra Brothers, their enemies and the lore they created. They gave every Ultra Brother a fair amount of screen time even though Zoffy again was kinda the main lead.
I also want that... but I can definitely see the limitations of what they can pull off with those detailed ultra armor.. I guess you can add some 2D scene but the fight still will be CGI overall.. unless the anime make a character design overhaul and simplify the design..
Imma be honest here. I absolutely loved SSSS Gridman. I didn't care about the girls in the show one bit. All I cared about was how the show gave me the absolute biggest Ultraman nostalgia I have ever had. Too bad it's sequel sucked tho. I really wish they made a proper, 2d, ultraman anime. It's been a dream of mine for so long, and yet nobody has done it. And no, I don't count that shitty cgi, iron man crap as ultraman.

I have the manga version put out by VIZ Media back in 1994. It's a great story and the anime of it makes me wish they had done more with it.
One thing to keep in mind is that this and the manga has most likely been retcon now,but that doesn't stop this from being an enjoyable ride

I feel Mega Monster Ultra Galaxy The movie is also a great first introduction the Ultraman series. It sets the tone really well.
