Thank you for your time and posting. Isn't it interesting that the nice auntie who sold you the plums wouldn't take any extra money? Thanks again. I'll be in VN in October, can't wait and most likely retire there.

Thanks for sharing. What an awesome ride and scenery. She said the monument (Thap Nghinh Phong) in Tuy Hoa was finished in 2001. I looked online and found it is an artwork that represents the mythical legend of the origins of Vietnamese people. Lac Long Quan from the sea and Au Co from the mountains. They met and fell in love. The legend is that Vietnamese people are made from 100 eggs from these two. You'll notice that it was split in 2. One side represented Lac Long Quan and the other Au Co.

Hey David I rented the same bike from Tigit, and just came back from Hue, Hội An and Da Nang. You need to place your bags horizontal and push it toward the end then tie it down so that you can open the seat to put gas in. Otherwise is very inconvenient to have to unstrap the bags and open the seat every time to refill gas.

I have to say, I am thoroughly enjoying this series. I usually get my Vietnam fix from the likes of Max and Chris, (Edit: and you Sonny...) but you Mr. Khai have taken this country to the next level for me. Who knew Vietnam had towns that look like they belong on the French Riviera.
Keep up the beautiful work mate!

Bro, I looked at the route too (from Nha Trang to Quy Nhon) - the straight forward way is always just to pay the toll. But yeah same, I always put *avoid tolls* in Sydney or Melbourne.

Love your comment about Google Map. It may be fine in Western countries but is not very reliable when it comes to Southeast Asia.
@12:08 That view of the sandy beach and the blue ocean against the blue sky gave me a hard-on :-)
@15:40 That beach would be freaking packed if it was anywhere in the US or in Europe.
@18:00 Big fat thumbs up for that honest and honorable woman vendor. Man what honesty and pride. Working 30km away from home to sell fruits on the streets but won't accept pity. Don't get me wrong David, I used to do the same, give them the change. I mean what the hell, for us, it's like a $1 and it makes me feel so much better about myself, made our interaction with them much more enjoyable, better for both, right?
Hope you enjoy VN and safe travel. Just stay away from the trucks and passenger buses, they're maniacs.

Very astute observation about the life at Vietnamese coastal cities.
We foreigners don't realize how meaningful and healthy of a life Vietnamese have in coastal cities.
They show up around 5:30am on the beach to swim, exercise. By 6:30am they head home to have breakfast and go to school and go to work.
That leaves the beach empty when it's the hottest. We sun worshiping foreign tourists get to enjoy the quiet beach while toasting our ass.
By 4:30 - 5:00pm the Vietnamese get home from school or work, come out to exercise, socialize on the beach. The local authority allows individual vendors to sell their food and drinks and earn a living as long as they clean up and the locals get to buy food at low price instead of having to buy food at expensive restaurants across the street from the beach. The town have that communal feeling. All is safe, no guns (you can tell I'm from the US with this obsession with gun crimes).
Also, those VN coastal cities make sure the local people, young and old, rich and poor, have access to the nice beach. I go to the Caribbean and the best beaches are strictly off limits to the locals, as the nice beaches are exclusive to expensive resorts and their rich foreign tourists.
It's a great communal culture that you see everywhere, from sharing a drink at beer halls, to life in the alleys, family eating meals together at home or at the restaurants, even to that maniacal scooter riding where "I keep my distance from you and you keep your distance from me and we'll both get to our destination unscathed" thinking prevail.
