    Amazingly, the day after posting this video, Tower Mint released images of the new Pitcairn stamps to be issued. (Incredible timing, I know!). Check out Mark’s blog where he looks at these new stamps and discusses his interest in Pitcairn: philatelicpursuits.wordpress.com/2023/03/23/pitcairn-islands-2023-part-1-mar-2023/

      😂 well I guess captain Bligh was important to the descendants of the island, had he not been an abusive captain and lost his ship, they wouldn’t be there … thinking about that now, that is quite an unusual reason to be honored on a stamp🤔😂

    During my heyday of stamp collecting, I had the entire MNH collection of Pitcairn stamps from 1940 - 2004, sadly I had to sell all of my collections in 2005 due to bad economic times. One thing that I would like to point out was that the "Official" religion of Pitcairn Island was Seventh Day Adventism. Thank you for doing this topic, may I suggest another island country that had a low yearly issue rate: Christmas Island.

    Greetings Graham. Such an excellent presentation on this historical island...one of my favorites! Thank you for showcasing it! I've been a huge fan of the history that surrounds Pitcairn. The famous mutiny is what lured me into its story. Hopefully you got chance to check out some of the old videos of the mutineers relatives. Of course, Fletcher Christian's relatives were featured in a few of them. Fun fact, Maurice Bligh, great, great, great grandson of the captains paid a visit to the island in 1971 and became great friends with Christian's great, great, great, grandson, Tom. Tom is the figure featured on the Series Definitive 1977-1981, "The Island's Bell" as he served as the island's radio operator. He was also a key figure in promoting tourism and produce which included the Pitcarin stamps.

    The Pitcairn Islands has a fascinating history along with their postage stamps
    You did a stunning job to bring forward the history of the Pitcairn islands to us👏👏
    I did a bit of research too and found out that *Pitcairn issued a stamp in 1957 which descripted that the Pitcairn School was shown, but the picture was incorrect.😅 The stamp was reprinted the following year, with a change in the description to correctly identify the picture as school-teacher’s house* :)
    I'll definitely get started to collect The Pitcairn Stamps ; they are too beautiful, I dont think after watching this episode anyone can refuse to collect Pitcairn stamps

    I accidentally got an almost complete collection of Pitcairn Island stamps a few years ago as a result of buying a junk box of stamps from a seller on Ebay who knew nothing about stamps. Several very nice covers were in the box too but my favorite was a post card from the 50’s with a small piece of wood glued to the front and identified as a piece of the Bounty. I did some research and found out that the islanders did glue bits of the wood on postcards from the Bounty for awhile but stopped because they didn’t want to destroy what was left…..apparently not much!

It was gifted to my dad during his time on Pitcairn (around 8 years accumulated time from many visits over 5 decades) from his mother-in-law (my mom is a Pitcairn islander), and was a sliver of the Bounty rudder. He no longer has it because it was stolen. I always thought the Bounty piece was pretty cool.

      Oh nice!!! Thank you for sharing, let’s see what Tower Mint does for the next issues, I was wondering if we could actually contact them about their stamps. Thanks William! 😊

    Its ashame that the pitcairn islands does not issue island related stamps anymore. It's my biggest fear in stamp collecting. Aruba went through a few years of bad issues but they're on track now a days.

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  Год назад +1

      It is a shame! A few folks have told me now that they reached out to Tower Mint and have been promised that topics related to the islands will be issued in the near future, fingers crossed that it happens 🤞

    I believe the delay in your order could be related to the Royal Mail ransomeware attack that plagued international mail for awhile. My Guernsey Post order was delayed by over two months.

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  Год назад

      Yes absolutely! Well, it took them 14 business days since placing the order to actually ship it, according to my emails. This current delay must be Royal Mail, I’m eagerly checking my post box each day! 😆📪 BUT two months for your order is crazy!!

      @@ExploringStamps I can relate, I was eagerly waiting for the postman every morning. I was so relieved when my stamp set finally came. I was pleasantly suprised Guernsey Post used definitive stamps to send the package. Definitely beats the bar code sticker, and very philatelic friendly! Thank you very much for your videos. They definitely re-sparked my interests in philately after a two decade hiatus. All the best, and hope you receive your stamps shortly. Cheers from Canada😊👍

    Great story! It's a shame they're no longer producing stamps as before. The new issue for 2023 is nice but lacks in comparison to previous issues.

    Hi Graham. A question: Every time I post a comment on this channel and it contains a link, it gets deleted. Hope this is this some kind of anti-spam thing and it's not just me.

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  Год назад +1

      Hi Niall, yeah usually the comment goes up for review if it has a link in it, probably because of anti-spam. I don’t see any comments held for review right now, but I’ve noticed that it can take a while to show up for me to approve. Sometimes it might just automatically delete it 🤷🏼‍♂️
