I hate to burst your bubble but the reason why they knew about Sirius B is a white dwarf used to be a red giant. Dee du dee😮

      Thank you for your input!
You are correct that Sirius B is a white dwarf, which evolved from a red giant. The fascinating part is how the Dogon tribe, with their ancient traditions, had detailed knowledge of Sirius B without access to modern telescopes.
To provide more context, the process of a star like Sirius B evolving into a white dwarf involves several stages and occurs over billions of years. Sirius B, which started as a main-sequence star, expanded into a red giant after exhausting the hydrogen in its core. This red giant phase lasted around 1 billion years. Eventually, the star shed its outer layers, leaving behind the hot, dense core we now see as a white dwarf.
Astronomers estimate that Sirius B became a white dwarf approximately 120 million years ago. Therefore, the Dogon would not have witnessed this transformation in recent history. The intriguing aspect is how the Dogon tribe knew about this white dwarf and its properties, passed down through generations. Their knowledge remains a compelling subject for researchers, highlighting the intricate astronomical understanding ancient civilizations could possess.

@MythMinimus I confess I was busy when I saw this video and didn't give you the attention you obviously deserved. I appreciate your kindness to me and your open mindedness. The 120 million years is deceptive all we can for sure is it's been a white dwarf for at least 5k years. If word of mouth for 10k years is all it is, that's amazing in itself. I subbed you after your first response and I will definitely give you a listen.

While it's true that we can't be certain of exact timelines over such vast periods, the fact that the Dogon tribe has preserved such knowledge for thousands of years is truly remarkable.
