It's a cool play but you literally just have to make a minion of each hp 1-7. Like it's really not a super complicated though process at all considering if he played defile immediately it'd already have fullcleared everything. He just had to remove the 8hp and re-create the 1hp and 4hp minions to keep his own guy alive. I think most stronger players would make that play in the moment.
It's a lot harder to see that play from a 10 second clip (or even 90 seconds of sitting looking at it) compared to actually organically coming into this position and already having the Defile idea in mind.

    • @thiccnoodles6767

@@mooncalf_4534 i remember when defile + tainted zealot was a very popular combo and i also remember godfrey being the king of all clears. what really strikes me with defile is how much harder it is to pull off flashy plays. the 1 damage might not seem like a lot of difference between defile and godfrey but it makes setting up alot harder.
what i think wouldve made it better is a full hadronox clear as well, because hadronox only summoned 1 taunt, but eh.

To add to Rarren’s point on pros finding the lines to win. The best example of this is a video of Firebat playing Mecha’thun druid, in the video he burns mechathun very early and completely pivot is win condition to instead summon a bunch of small minions and use branching paths to buff attack. It was incredibly impressive because even players in high legend that I played in would have just given up when I did the same thing to them.

It was nerfed after 6 months so that it could only continue casting spells if Yogg was still in tact and unsilenced on the battlefield. FOUR years later and once it had long since rotated, our lord and saviour returned to his original form, unnerfed.

What a fun watch! I still get reminded of the Nevada/San Jose Devolve clip by one of the guys on the San Jose team whenever we see each other online. (I’m in the middle on NV). Fun surprise to see the clip made it into this compilation! And if I remember right this was KotFT like he said during the Collegiate season. Would love to know the math on how unlikely it was to get 1) exactly Ticking Abomb 2) the rest of the minions all have stats die to it and 3) none of the other minions gain taunt to protect against the trade.
Anyways fun blast from the past, cool to see it show up and live on. Praise RNG 🎉

5:46 So I actually went and watched the match, the reason Raza doesn't activate is because Pavel had previously used a Psychic Scream to shuffle his opponents _and his own_ loothoarder into Roger's deck, having played it from his hand in the same turn to clearly force his opponent into needing to wait and draw one of them before playing Raza and being able to combo off.
And to answer your question: Yes, cards did glow yellow when they were active during this match, I could see it when they both played Kazakus on turn 4 since they both had him in their opening hands, but I guess Roger was just under a lot of pressure and wasn't thinking clearly. Pavel went on to win that match, making the score 3-1, getting to proceed to the quarter-finals and then ultimately got 3rd place in the tournament.

Very nice video, bringing back good memories from the good old days :D
I feel like such an old woman saying that. I need to take my pills and a bowl of soup before going to bed ;)

Whenever I see stuff I like this I wish for old-school format tournament's where you have to play through older metas.
Much like Smogon does with Pokemon

Most funny moment was watching competitive Boomsday Project Control Warrior mirror match Kappa! 40+ minutes of games, you go eat, you return and what to see - the game is still going!

Played until late '18. The last few months was playing just for maintenance. It's like I've missed nothing.

This almost makes we want to download Hearthstone again, but then I'd have to spend so much money catching up on all the cards I've missed.

I don't think the Noz issue with that first Nozdormu clip was due to the stress or anything; I think it was due to how freaking wonky it was coded. Depending on the deck and animations rather than getting 15 seconds to play your turn, you might get 5 or even 0 in some cases.
