Our First Turkish Breakfast! Istanbul VS Antalya. OMG 😳 What to EAT in Turkey 🇹🇷

- During our time in Turkey, we went on a mission to try to find the best Turkish Breakfast!
We started in the South of Turkey while staying in the small town of Kas so that we could try out a traditional breakfast from Antalya (the region). We went to a restaurant right in town called Pell’s.
The next stop on our trip was Istanbul so of course we tried a traditional breakfast here as well. This time we found a well rated restaurant near the area of Karakoy called Doğaciyiz Gourmet.
At the end we could not pick a favourite! One of the things we loved about a Turkish breakfast is that everywhere you go does it slightly different and you get to try so many different things at each meal.
ABOUT TURKISH BREAKFAST
Turks usually prefer a rich breakfast. A typical Turkish breakfast consists of cheese (beyaz peynir, kaşar etc.), butter, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, jam, honey, and kaymak, sucuk (spicy Turkish sausage, can be eaten with eggs), pastırma, börek, simit, poğaça and soups are eaten as a morning meal in Turkey. A specialty for breakfast is called menemen, which is prepared with tomatoes, green peppers, onion, olive oil and eggs. Invariably, Turkish tea is served at breakfast. The Turkish word for breakfast, kahvaltı, means "before coffee" (kahve, 'coffee'; altı, 'under').

Actually i believe u find a bad place for menemen because even you guys can do it better at home looks good but for example it has to have a juice coming from tomatoes for bread :) It's a good video and fun to watch btw.
Delightful Travellers Hello, thank you for coming Turkey and enjoying our breakfast! I want to inform you about the meat at 12:07 it is called “sucuk” and completely different prosess from sausage. You should add water and other ingradients to meat and leave it to rest to make sausage but you should evaporate water inside meat and leave fermentation with spices for at least 2-3 weeks (much longer in traditional butchers) to make sucuk. That’s why it’s spicy, delicious and more expensive than sausage. I am a food engineer, i can answer almost all kind of questions about Turkish food. 😊
How much was the Turkish breakfast in euros or dollars?
My menemen recipe for 2;
-2 eggs
-1 tomato
-1 red chili pepper
-1 green pepper
-2 cloves of garlic
-1 table spoon olive oil
-1 teaspoon tomato paste
-grated feta cheese
-parsley
-salt&black pepper
Put the stove on medium heat; Fry chopped red&green peppers in olive oil, add chopped garlics and continue till garlic get light yellow. Add diced tomatoes and tomato paste respectively, mix well and cook until tomatoes starts boiling. Add salt&pepper and prefered spices (thyme suggested). Crack the eggs in and countinue mixing gently. Lower down the heat to minimum once the eggs get sticky but not cooked hard. Add grated cheese, wait until cheese starts melting. Spread chopped parsley for topping.
Afiyet olsun 🇹🇷
Sarmısak olmuyo iste ya
The original menemen recipe has 3 ingradients; chopped tomatoes, chopped green peppers and eggs. Everything else is your choice. There is a big arguement in Turkey about onion in menemen, just like pineapple in pizza. I strongly disagree with onion, garlic, cheese and other ingradients in menemen. 😆
Özlem Dr I always see you under gangyoung busking vids hahahaha
Yura Uro omg i am exposed LOL i am a Gangyong trash 😆

What I hear from the ppl who have been to Turkey, they miss the breakfast the most when they get home, well I think we are lucky to have that all the time as Turkish ppl 😁
That is what we miss the most yes! - Anna
Wow! Looks fabulous!!! Your Turkey series has convinced us it our next stop!! Thank you amazing videos!! Thank you!!!
It's out of this world you guys. You'd really love it. Istanbul is so much fun and wildly different than other cities we've been to 🤗 - Anna
Türkçe alt Yazı yok ne dediğinizi anlamıyorum ya 😕
I love Turkish food. My wife is Turkish and we're going on just about 20 years together. There's isn't much Turkish food that I have not eaten in 20 years. I've enjoyed every fork full. Just like this video explains, breakfast is always an amazing assortment of fresh and delicious foods. Çok teşekkür ediyorum benim Anneciğim. Seni çok seviyorum. Öptüm
Enişte mutluluklar sizin olsun 👏👏👏👏
Oh my gosh the breakfast there in turkey is outstanding 😍 all the fresh cheese, grilled veggies and dips... perfection I love that type of food. That would be something I would typically eat for lunch though not breakfast lol.
I know us too! So much food Angie. We just love that there's soooooo many options - Anna
Hello, thank you very much for liking our breakfast. We don’t eat this much everyday. This breakfast in the video is more likely for weekends with parents, like a brunch. But simple Turkish breakfast always has at least 1 kind of white cheese, black olives, eggs and salad. It is healthy if you don’t put so much butter or marmelade on your bread. I had breakfast all over the Europe and i think my fav is still simple, salty Turkish breakfast. 😂
We eat this kind of breakfast at weekends mostly. And we eat it as brunch.
Fascinating food. I don't especially like typical breakfast food but this looked incredible. Almost limitless assortment of flavors and textures.
Limitless is a great word to use here... that's what it felt like 🤗 The food just keeps coming and coming. - Anna
Wow, the Kas breakfast was fit for a king! What a beautiful, colourful banquet and the restaurant looked so pretty. I love the fruit and vegetables in Turkey, they are so flavoursome, the nicest tomatoes and peppers I've ever tasted.
Right?! All the restaurants are very nice in Kas. We asked for fresh orange juice for breakfast at this one spot. Our waitress looked up at the trees, spotted some oranges, and said 'yes I can make that today'. :)
@@DelightfulTravellers oh that's so lovely! VERY fresh juice, delightful memory. 🍊🍊🍊
Turkish foods and breakfast amazing and hygenic. Do not confuse with arabic. Turkish people care about hygen and taste... you can not find out as this tasty and hygenic
seems Turkish people are stereotyping other nations though:). Pls treat everyone individually and do not stereotype them according to the nation. you can easily find non-hygienic places in Turkey as in any other place in the world.
@@rampabayir arabic people like to eat rice without spoon or fork. just with their hands.
@@lacrimosa6335 Yes maybe it is more common than the other nations. in Turkey, people use their hands while eating different kinds of foods. people eat fish and chicken all over the world by licking their fingers afterward. I don't know what is your point here. Belonging to a nation doesn't make you less or more hygiene. you can clean your hands and eat however you like. you may have easily served very dirty spoons and forks in restaurants as well. so guys, pls stop stereotyping any nation. generalizing and stereotyping is very easy. would you like it if a foreign person considers you as a rude person since people in Turkey is commonly rude?
And one note for all the people reading this comment: Turkish people are not as racist as this person and the people liked this comment. these people are not even aware of how racist this comment is most probably. Turkish people ( i am also now stereotyping here, let's see if you will like it) admire power and money. If you are rich they will respect you regardlessly.
arapların alayı pis, elleriyle pilav yerler ,türkler sadece tavuk ve balığı elleriyle mecburen yerler,
I literally can’t stand it. Watching this and not being able to partake is destroying me lol. Never realized food of this nature. And what perfect weather. Great great video thank you both .
Come join us Robert .. we need help eating all this yummy food! 😉 - Trevor
Delightful Travellers ...oh, thanks so much for the invite lol.
spoiler of this video; "everything is delicious" :)
Have been loving your videos from Turkey and Greece!! Will be going to Istanbul, Greece and Croatia in June and your videos have given me so many more ideas of what to do on my trip. I am even more excited now for my travels (if that is possible). Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!!
Oh that's fantastic! We're so glad you're finding them helpful. You're going to love all of those countries. Where are you going in each one? - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers In Greece we will be going to Mykonos, Rhodes, Athens, Chania, and Katakolon. Then also Istanbul Turkey and Korcula, Croatia. We are also booked for 5 nights in Venice Italy and are planning to take train trips from there to Florence. I would also like to go to Verona but not sure we will have time. Even with 25 days off work for this trip...there is never enough time for everything!
Turkish food is the best food in the world. You are touching the surface there is so much more to eat.
We love it... we have a few more food videos on it so check those out - Trevor
Turkish breakfast is the best. ☺ thanx for sharing. Love the video. Greetings from İstanbul ✋❤

I feel like you earned this by now Taki 🥈😄 Soo-jook may have been my favourite. So so good! - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers lol thanks!! Greek and Turkish food have many similarities. My mother and yia yia (grandmother) used to make soutsoukakia, little meatballs, based on a recipe from Constantinople; very tasty!!

Wow! That's a lot of yummy food. I am glad you guys had a good time. My mouth was watering seeing all that. 😁
Best Turkish breakfast video I’ve seen! You guys picked great places !
Wow, thank you! We're glad you enjoyed it 🤗- Anna
Guys cream ( kaymak) and honey you have to mix it and spread it on a bread, is best thing
ever people go there to try that mainly. The sausage is called suçuk i personally mix that with omelette . In Turkey there was a debate on eating menemen with onions or without. Looking at the one you eat is with onions ( btw you have to eat with bread ) nice to see you enjoyed it. Hope you try iskender before leaving turkey .
h y - While watching, I said “mix it with the honey!!” Out loud. 🥰
Thanks for all the tips. Good to know for next time. We still can't get over the amount of food you get in one sitting 😄 - Anna

Woohoo hello Vancouver! We’re from Halifax 😀 Welcome to our little channel - Anna
Just came across this, and there really aren’t many travel vlogs with real informed taste and elegance around, keep it up!
In "menemen" (the egg dish with tomatoes and peppers); I think the important thing is using seasonal tomatoes and having a good balance of ingredients (like there should be only one egg used for 2 or 3 tomatoes). In some cases, people add onions as well, which I'd not prefer personally. I also add some butter in it as well as black pepper and just a little bir of red pepper and salt :)
i love Sucuk,i live in Sydney i was born in Turkey and i love Turkish breakfast
breakfast is my favorite meal of the day as well, especially when you have nothing to do afterwards and extend it a few hours long and sitting with family or friends in a sunny day.
We call that brunch in Canada (or the USA).. It's our fav! - Anna
Turkey is so beatiful country dont hate have cute people end have so good food turkey is so beatiful come turkey🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Trevor and Anna what an amazing video of the 2 of you showing the 2 breakfasts they looked so yummy WOW
Effie thanks for following along as always. We wish we could get breakfast like that in Canada! - Anna
The scrambled eggs with tomato recipe is very easy to make at home. Just fry some onions and garlic with some peppers in good olive oil, add in fresh chopped tomatoes and spices (we use smoked paprika and baharat mix and oregano, salt and pepper). Tomatoes where we live aren't that good so we feel like it needs spices! When sauce is reduced, whisk a few eggs in another container. Then just pour in the tomato sauce into the eggs whilst mixing at the same time. Put the mixture back into the pan with a bit of oil and scramble it. Add in feta and enjoy! 😉
Thanks so much for this. We just may have to try making it soon. 🤗 - Anna
There isnt garlic in menemen
No garlic and feta in menemen
This is the recipe of a similar Greek recipe called strapatsada, and frankly I couldn't imagine it without garlic!!
@@Stavraetina But they were asking the recipe of menemen which they tasted :)
Looked great. Glad I had breakfast before watching. Would have driven me crazy.
haha yes this would be hard to watch on an empty stomach 🤣 - Trevor

If we Turkish people decide to make a real breakfast then you can double or triple the variation of foods.. it takes hours to complete meal and while having it, you feel that you never want it to end; even your tummy forgets how to feel full 😋 I recommend you to have breakfasts of different regions of Turkey too
Excellent video loved it!
Turkish breakfast is very healthy.. Love it
We had a holiday booked in coastal Turkey last year and were actually going to spend a night in Kaş, specifically so that we could try that very breakfast in that very restaurant, based on seeing this video! Unfortunately it didn't happen though, thanks to Covid 😔
Hopefully you can make it there when it's safe to travel - Anna
Eggs, onion (not too mutch and cut it in small pieces) and tomato. For two persons onne and a half tomato one egg and onion. First cook the onion amd tomato and cut the tomato in small pieces too after it is cooked add the egg.
Hello guys. The traditional way to eat buffalo cream is that you should spread it on your bread and for a second layer use any sweet thing on it as a topping etc jam or honey or even the wallnut jam :)
Great tip! thanks! - Anna
you should eat milk cream(which you said buffalo milk) with honey :)))) it is a tradition, I advise you for the next time, thanks for the video guysss
Welcom to Turkey 🇹🇷
Elllerinize sağlık 😊👍.
The food looks so good but salad for breakfast that's interesting
Hi Guys. In Turkey there are different breakfast kinds belonging to different regions in the country. The place you had your breakfast in istanbul belongs to Antakya city which has a great food culture so not istanbul or Antalya. So in Turkey there is no one standard. :=)

Hummus is originally not Turkish, it's Lebanese, but since it has so much fans it's served in some places. A Turkish breakfast with Hummus is not authentic, but i guess since Lebanon is also an oriental country tourists can't notice it. You wouldn't normally see Hummus if you have a breakfast in a regular turkish house.
their second breakfast belongs to hatay region
and hatay is close to arab kitchen
