Cheap Toy Trains Vs Thomas The Tank Trackmaster Hill Climb & Thomas Face Lift

- I'm a sucker for cheap toys and cheap RC toy trains. Lets see Thomas The Tank (powered wooden railway style) against an amazing $10 RC Bullet Train which has featured difficult to find in any toy train. It's remote control features will amaze my audience but the big question is how long will this toy last? At Kmart Australia $15 will buy a Junior Train set which has a battery powered toy train that passes as James. The small track is compatible with TOMY blue track. But the real test comes when we add some Thomas & Friends wooden railway characters and wagons led by Diesel10. The Kmart train does a pretty good job, but when compared to the powered Thomas The Tank we can see a big difference in performance. Setting up a simple wooden railway layout with a bridge and bumpy track will test these cheap toy trains. As you will see there are problems, but sometimes this ends up as more fun and things go wrong. Children love it when trains crash or jump the rails. The ultimate test comes when I set up a Trackmaster hill climb (new Mattel track version). This is where the $10 RC Bullet train shines, and the other steam engine styled trains also do well except for one. And in seeing that one toy is broken out of box reminds us what we get when we buy cheap generic toys. I'm pretty sure the RC Bullet train will impress many people, but this toy needs to be put through a few weeks of rough home play before I can give it the tick of approval. Seeing the broken toy out of box has me a bit spooked. I show how to Thomas Up these toy trains by using the Thomas character faces found in the Lotte Thomas & friends candy. It's a simple toy mod that I'm sure many train fans will do.

My favorite battery brand is Duracell.
I've noticed that the RC train in this video looks very much like the Class 390 Pendolino, which is a high speed train in England.
*the UK, it runs in Scotland as well.
The video itself is awesome and teaches what types of toys are worth of money...
But the thumbnail, Diesel 10 looks so...innocent.

Interesting to see a Virgin pendolino being sold in Australia! I think I've seen them as a generic brand toy in Tesco over here though not RC and made of a lot less plastic. I really need to get out some of my wooden stuff someday. I have so much of it but I hardly touch them. Feels a shame to let them gather dust but I haven't the heart to get rid of them.

hey Leo I have a pair of track adapters from Tomy blue to Trackmaster classic.
This remote control train is amazing
You can have 2 of the remote controlled back to back and hopefully it will go faster than one

I was right, it was a fun video! Its interesting to see how the different cheap toy trains performed. The RC passenger train seems to be based on the Virgin Pendolino trains here in the UK, strange that the toy makes steam engine sounds! Although the other sound effects where cool.

I saw some of these Trackmaster 2 Engines & Track Packs in Airports but they often overcharge it, and I didn't see Train Sets of Trackmaster 2, but I did see some wooden sets as well.

Very interesting to see what these toys do right and where they go wrong. The whole ordeal is fascinating to me because as a young child, I only ever had brand name Thomas toys. (My mom knew I wouldn't have anything to do with generic trains.) Also, it may just be me, but the red steam engine looks more akin to Victor (the narrow guage engine at the steam works).

I agree with Leokim when he says that you'll quite often find when it comes to toys that a higher price means higher quality. I can say that in the many years of play that they've gotten, only one has ever broken (a TOMY Henry that I forcibly threw down the stairs).

there is a black wooden rail way steam train and it has a name big boy made by learning curve int'l i have one and it is a pretty good train to have on a wooden rail way ( it is not remote controle.

That horn sounds like a TMCC Lionel horn but not as robust. Thats what I think it sounds like.

Very cool; insane that the real McCoys haven't tried something like this (I believe they have done RC Trackmaster 1 but Thomas needed a wagon for his batteries, which I am not a big fan of).... the Metal "Wooden" railway items used to be what always asked Santa for, but now I think that was to compensate for my lack of TOMY!
I will have to go back to my local Kmart and have a look... how curious...
***** KMart is very keen to display $7 toasters, $15 blenders and $5 T-Shits, but when it comes to a good supply in the toy aisle it can be very poor. If it's Thomas & Friends stock is worse than poor. Target are not much better, note that we are dealing with the same root company. This may stem back to Mattel's shipping and storage here in Oz. But as people who just buy this stuff we are basically mushrooms. I'm actually thinking online shopping makes far more sense than trying to second guess when KMart & Target Oz have new stock on the shelves.

***** I understand that, but be careful some companies have huge postage costs on even small orders. I think the shocker for me was how ToysRUs ship here in Oz. Did you see the $23 Trackamster Avalance set BM22 grabbed from Amazon, it came with blank boxing..I have never seen this before. Basically that set is a $99 item here, $60 if your lucky, but in the USA $23. Now it begs the question how much do Mattel make the set for, it must be near $10 USD

The red express train is a Virgin Pendalino express train (obviously with the logos taken away for copyright reasons), it is very familiar to me because I live in that part of the UK where I see these quite often, it's actually very impressive to see it in this child-friendly form, though I don't agree with the standard steam engine sounds. Would you consider it a knock-off? I wouldn't mind one myself.
PokelordEX I will need to show this RC train again, there is copyright info under the train thats a tad curious. To me thats weird as it's just a generic toy train, and as others have pointed out some of this stuff is whats found in Toys R Us but for a much higher price. I will need to see the Toys R Us version before I say it's a rip of that. All I know is that little RC train has been sold out since I purchased it late last year. It's a new line for Kmart Oz, and i'm always going to be curious about stuff like this.
Something else to point out too, I've noticed in alot of your videos actually, it does seem like Australia has more imports of UK merchandise than it does the US, I've noticed alot of the stuff you have (mainly the electric trains) are often stuff that only the UK would sell, would you say this is a true fact? I just find it interesting how different countries end up with equal goods =)

Hi Leo, long time fan now, have you ever heard of the brand geotrax? I think they're discontinued now, but I still have a whole tub of them from when I was little. I don't remember the sets and expansion track being too expensive, although their price has increased since people have started selling them online. If you can find some, they're pretty cool.
