As an ortodox christian I'm so proud of priest Damaskin for opening the church for you, and serving you with some refreshments and snacks. He really set an example of how our tradition and religion teaches us to treat guests/travelers. In ancient times our ancestor bealived that their forefather's souls will pay them a visit from time to time disguised as a travelers, uninvited guests, beggars. For a purpose that they can put to a test their hospitality. The way they were wellcomed or not will be attributed to the whole of their family in their afterlife.
