What a project to take on yourself, really admire your tenacity. You're going to have a lovely view through that window. Beautiful work. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏻
This is fascinating for me. There is virtually no construction in block and stone or double-brick style construction here is New Zealand. Earthquake damage is a real and ongoing problem. My house was originally built with brick chimneys, but they were all destroyed inside the wooden framing of the house by an Earthquake in the ‘60s. All houses here are timber-framed or a few are pre-stressed concrete. Great choice of music
Thank you, I find it so interesting the different ways we all build a roof over our heads all over the world. Thankfully there’s no threat of earthquakes in the Uk but the rain can be quite testing😄 All the best
Great video!! Laying solid block and stone by yourself? You sir are a beast. Question, Is that black strip between layers of stone a vapor barrier or stabilizer? Again, beautiful stone work. If I was your neighbor I'd come over and help you mix mortar.
Thanks Billy, nothing is too difficult when you enjoy doing it so much. The black strip is the damp proof course(dpc) This acts as a barrier to stop any damp/ moisture rising all the way up the wall. As you know there a lot of moisture in the Uk 😂
The cavity is part filled with insulation and rest is an air gap. Depending on the design and architect it can be part filled or fully filled in the Uk
I’ve really enjoyed watching this set of videos what a lovely job you’ve made of it. Just wondered what you were painting on to the bottom of the stone window sill slabs just before you layer them on to the cement? Is it a type of slurry mix for adhesion? What does it consist of? Thanks so much 👍

What goes in the air space between the outer stone wall and the inner block wall?
The cavity is part filled with insulation and rest is an air gap.
Depending on the design and architect it can be part filled or fully filled in the Uk

Hi Joe, thank you for the great comments.
Yes it’s a slurry mix of a product called SBR and a bit of cement powder to help them bond well.
What was the blue stuff you painted on the flat rocks under the window?
It’s a slurry mix of a product called SBR and a little bit of cement powder mowed in.
This helps the slabs to bond together well.
