My Uncle had that car I don't know if it had that motor and Transmission, Is had a cool matching canopy, but he traded it in on a new Chevy citation back then 😩

These cars were unappreciated an affordable in the mid to late 70's. I passed on a 71 Cutlass with a 455, 4spd, triple black convertible for $1500. When I was in the service, I purchased a 69 Elminator, 351, 4speed car for$1200.
Still regret sell that Cougar.

I have a 1971 AMC JAVELIN AMX, a 1974 Pontiac GP 455SJ (full sized muscle ) and a 1965 Mustang 289, and a 1974 Transam 400 all in SE ASIA.......all will need restoration but at least theyre in my shop safe and sound.

I gotten a 71 Challenger RT back in 82. I still have it today. Back then I had the time but no money. Today I have the money but haven’t the time. It is so close to where I want it.

An older guy that we would do work for had a 440 Super Commando Coronet. It was so funny to see the look on 396 Chevy's when he would take off from a light. It was a QUIET Beast!!!!

Get ready! (and this is true) Well now, I owned and regularly drove, a 1967 Ford Fairlane Ranchero with a straight, in-line six (banger). Three speed, on the column. A clutch on the floor and full drum brakes on all 4. Eat your hearts out.
I wish I had a little more money in 1981, passed on a southern rust free 1969 Roadrunner, 383 4 speed with factory hurst shifter in front of K-mart unlocked for $1,500, those were the days.

I bought a few really nice cars for a song in the 80's. GTO's, 442's, Buick GS's, even a 1970 Olds 4 door 98 with posi than ran like a top, $300-. Hard to believe what they get for them today. Sold a 1970 454 Chevelle SS M22 LS6 for $600- in 1974. Blown motor.
Have someone kick you for having sold a 70 Chevelle 454 LS6...even with a blown engine. It could've been rebuilt. GM still made the parts for that engine. Don't tell that to anybody that you sold something like that. Sheesh.

I lived those days but I was cash limited so I missed out on the ability to own anything new in the grand selection of beautiful muscle cars. But in 1973 I got the chance to pick between a used 69 Charger Super Bee or a 70 Roadrunner. I chose the Roadrunner but it was a very difficult decision. All though neither of these were as grand as the collector examples in this video I feel honored to have had the chance to have driven one of the cars of the muscle car erra that will never be again. What a memory and what fun it was and at nineteen years old I felt on top of the world.

Rode in a 57 Chevy 327 Saturday night at the car club, in a smaller hick town. It's like freaking a twilight episode, going back in time. Nothing but smiles

So it was a toss up between a '69 Dodge CORONET Super Bee or a '70 Plymouth RR. The engine under the hood should've been the deciding factor for you. IF the Coronet was an R/T model then you chose wrong BUT IF the RR had a 440 or 440 6-BBL or even better yet, the 426 HEMI, then you chose wisely. Many of these old Mopars are going for UPWARDS of 50 grand now. The huge big blocks in "mint condition" are well into 6 figure territory. Convertibles-most especially E-body Challenger/Cuda models are in 7-figure territory. Don't you wish you could enter a time machine with your piggy bank (checkbook) and walk into a Dodge or Plymouth dealership and plunk down your $ on a brand new big block Mopar? I know I would. FYI-I owned a factory original 68 'cuda for a few years. It was a love hate relationship. Gorgeous car.

50 years ago you could buy these cars for 18 hundred dollars.
Mid seventies, most of the guys who bought them new were in late twenties, the seventy three fuel crisis, new wife and maybe a child . These cars were not much in demand . I worked at a chev dealer , the whole back row of the used lot was muscle cars , hemi cuda , boss mustang , Shelby's , cj fairlanes , ss Chevelle's . 2000$ for choice . Kids used to buy one , bag it out or roll it in just couple months and go buy another
Different economy back then a loaf of bread was 50 cents and annual incomes were 10K a year for most common labor jobs. So 1800 cars were pricey.

I am a Brit , and love muscle cars , I am a Mopar guy at heart but love them all. The Judge is prob my fav non Mopar and GSX , I think the later Javelins with is curves are really cool, 69 Camaro's too.

54 here. In highschool I had a 71 charger with a 440 that I paid $3500 for. I later traded it outright for a 71 road runner with a 440. I wish I still had both of those cars today. They’re worth a mint
I just turned 61, born in Detroit and a 3rd generation auto industry worker. My dad worked forFord, he had several Mustangs, including a Boss 302Mach I. My first car was a ‘65 Mustang with a 289. I still go to car shows, it’s in my blood.
another one of the best automotive investments ever would be the Australian Ford Falcon GTHO Phase3. Having cost just $5000 AUD in 1971, a pristine example recently sold for $1,000,000 AUD at auction.
had the BUICK GSX Stage 2! you had the parts shipped in the trunk, cam, intake, carb, heads, lifter set, rods, crank !!!! it was the only way it could be sent too you or the insurence co. would go nuts!!!
I chuckle to myself when I see a '69 429 BOSS. When they were built, I was a Tool & Die apprentice at Dearborn Assembly Ford Rouge Complex & my main responsibility area was the final assembly line & ship & adjust garage. Granted, it is a rare Mustang, but it just didn't live up to the hype & the 428 CJ was a more reliable, less intricate motor that ran very strong. My candidate for rare muscle is a '68 Hemi Dart or ZL-1 '69 Vette. I owned a tricked '68 427 that was a beast.
1967 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible
When Ford brought production of Shelby Mustangs in-house, Ford never got around to making the 1967 GT500 convertibles, leaving this rare single version as the only one ever built.
I’m 68 and grew up with cars like these in my neighborhood and at my high school. Well maybe not so perfectly optioned but none the less so many with big blocks. I mean seriously kids with a good job were buying these cars. Never would they have imagined their high school car going for 100’s of thousands and in some cases millions. Omg the prices these cars bring today.
My favorite would be the 69T/A convertible. I kept looking for one throughout the years when some were missing. The RA-IV was an option on that car, and surprisingly, not one of the 8 was ordered that way. I've got a 69T/A hardtop with the standard RA-III and 4 speed and would never get rid of it.
Only half of the eight were 4 Speeds. Which makes the automatics equally as rare. I believe that the production run for all Trans Ams in 1969 was 697 units. So, they're all rare . . . . .

GM had the best cars and engines in 1970. High compression big blocks everywhere. I'd be happy with any 1970 GM big block car. Although the GSX would definitely be a top pick
I'm a mopar man all the way .but a 70 Chevelle LS 6. Red with Black stripes 4 speed . Would be cool too. Even though a 68 hemi Dart would easily spank it. Lol

I happen to own a couple of die cast 1970 Buick GSX. One is Apollo white and the other is Saturn yellow. Unfortunately neither one is for sale
I watched a '71 Hemi Cuda convertible (1 of 5 ever built) cross the auction block at Barret Jackson around 2004. It sold for about 1.5 million.
The '69 Daytona Charger is much harder to find than the Superbird.
the 1970 dodge challenger,is the only car i ever seen,looks like its going 200 mph sitting still,i've owned a bunch of them,it came with its own cup holders,a large coke fits perfect at the ends of the R/T DASH,E5 RED,BLACK VINYL TOP,383 mag 4 speed,its a good day
In 1974 you could buy a 1971 Cuda Hemi, 4 speed, triple black hardtop for $2600. No kidding. The oil crisis of the time hurt all muscle car sales. If we only knew.....
These lists are very subjective and engage much debate. $Dollar value isn't important to most. I've seen people cry reunited with their first GTO, Chevelle or Mustang. It's memories of the good times these cars brought that makes them valuable.
My old neighbor has a 71 cuda. He says his is the rarest. First one off the assembly line painted in a factory brown. For payment for fixes his daily driver he threw me the keys and said one trip around the block. Happiest day of my life.
How do you find someone to do the research. I have supposedly a 1 of 1 67 firebird convertable blue interior, white with factory blue racing stripes 400 4speed possy with crazy option package. Vince Whibb's Pontiac dealership in Florida was mayor and also sponsored NASCAR team in 65 & 66 may have known about the 67 Camaro Indy pacecar blue interior, white with blue racing stripes and ordered the Firebird to outshine them. only 69,000 not driven since 70s

Hmmm... seems like Mopar takes the cake in this video. That's not a surprising thing for the era. Mopar was a great innovator in that era and Dodge and Plymouth had some folks with aesthetic knack working for them. I would love a 1972 Road Runner, frankly.

Somebody got taken on that Cuda. A guy here in Miami has an original 69 aluminum body Dana hemi Charger with the hemi medallion fender emblems. Says he paid 75Gs in 1991 for it and if he lives to be 200 he'll never sell it for any price [ lol ].
Bought a 1970 Cuda 440 Magnum 1979 för 20000 swedish krona. At that time around 1000$ if I remember correct.

Well, it's not exactly a "muscle car", as it's a full-sized car. But somewhere out there, there is a 1958 DeSoto Adventurer convertible that had the ultra-rare EFI option. The number of these produced was in the single digits. The unit was troublesome as produced, and they were typically converted back to carburetors. However, one owner located the original EFI unit, and refitted it with modern electronics that resulted in the EFI unit performing as it was intended to, with much more reliability. Thus, if you opened the hood, the unit physically appears as original.
This car is the only known functioning original EFI DeSoto in existence. As I've seen a 1959 Desoto Adventurer convertible cross the auction block at $275K, this one would certainly command a much higher price, as it would be the Holy Grail for DeSoto's.

That was my first car, had to build the Damn thing, but it was my first car. Had a busted motor mount passenger side, well let's just say date night was always shortened... Lost it in a divorce I wasn't even part of... Long story
