- Daryl's Joy was a Champion NZ 2 year old, a champion Australian 3 year old and a very good racehorse in the United States at ages 4 and 5.
He is the best horse trained by NZ Racing Hall of Famer - Syd Brown
Group races he won included the Cox Plate and the Victoria Derby.
I remember my father telling me when I was young that he named me after a racehorse called Daryl’s joy,I was born in 1970,in Wellington,New Zealand,is very interesting to learn about the history of this horse & how successful his racing career was competing at the highest level, with impressive performances, true champion.
Daryl's Joy is a horse most NZ 's barely mention today. But what a Versatile Champion he was.
Mighty horse the best post war Australasian horse to race in America. One of the very best
A real champion - defeated the mighty Vain and only once unplaced in 30 lifetime starts. One of New Zealand's greatest ever !
The reason i rate Vain the most brilliant horse i have seen was because he raced against this mighty horse. Funny Kiwis very rarely mention.
He won $6900000 ,,in today's $'s ..
He was a champion in three countries. He had only five starts in Australia as a three year old, beating the great sprinter Vain and then thrashing the stayers in winning the W S Cox Plate against older horses and the Victoria Derby. Daryl's Joy was raced lightly in the U S A proving too good for Cougar II three out of three, and Cougar II later became an American Hall of Famer. Trainer Syd Brown and jockey Bill Skelton both claimed he was the best horse they ever had. First New Zealand galloper to become an international star testified by the number of track records he held, his record earnings, and the quality of the opposition be beat.
+Daryl Waldron
Absolutely agree with your comments
He should also be inducted into the Saratoga Hall of fame in the US
Interesting. I know so much about our great Kiwis: Carbine, Phar Lap (yes, Kiwi), Kindergarten, Rising Fast, Mainbrace, Balmerino, Sunline, Bonecrusher, Dundeel, Show Gate, etc etc and your great Aussies: Tulloch, Berborough, Dulicy, Kingston Town, Better Loosen Up, Might And Power, Black Caviar, Winx etc etc, but not so much about Daryl's Joy. Thank you.
Very sad . Amazing horse.
Much better horse than Balmerino Bonecrusher and Dundeel. Nothing protected about the great Dary's Joy and Vain. An era of great champions
Daryl's Joy beat better Horses than Vain beat ...
The best horse Vain beat was Daryl's Joy ...
Take a look at the Champions Daryl's Joy beat in the U.S.
A mile was Vains limit ...
Daryl's Joy won 1200 to 2500mtrs ...
Cox Plate an Victoria Derby..
He would have won the Melbourne Cup ...
Definitely a Superior horse than Vain ...
Sad but true Kiwis hardly know who Daryl's Joy was one the most underrated horses ever to race out of NZ. Vain was a more brilliant horse over a short career IMO.
Stupid statement. Vain was a much better horse up to a mile. Daryls Joy was better over a mile. Vain was a more brilliant horse by far up to a mile. There have been much better horses over a mile in Australia than Daryls Joy. There has never been a better sprinter miler in Australia than Vain since the mid sixties. Vain never raced overseas.
Always pulling one out of the hat....not only for the people but also for the animals....per population New Zealand is the greatest sporting nation ever in the world...no nation can catch up...must be water!
Jey ,you make me laugh but unfortunately you didn't get an AFL team going
and I do understand they handball very fast and oh run very fast too
Sought of like the little man big man. The most parochial nation in the world .Why? Pathetic.
The whole world (maybe not Ireland) has a question: "What is AFL?"
@@drewbabydrew7742 who actually plays AFL?
Chasing those sheep gets the Kiwis fut
