Hope you don't mind me asking a question when you were turning the socket for the chuck there was a very harsh thumping noise, well I get the same but mine normally results in the project trying to kill me, so do you know what causes it?
+Roger Crook thanks for the question, i rewatched the video and believe the noise was primarily caused from the flat carbide tip cuttinging into the endgrain. i encounter this from time to time. I always try to bring the tail stock up as i feel safer should the piece try to kill me, which unfortunately has happened. Hope this helps, and good luck.
good morning I was just watching your segment where you turn the two bowls out of the banksia pods. My question is do you sell the Bulls or could I order a set custom made? I thought the boy was absolutely beautiful when you were turning it and it's still kind of sort of had like the octagon shape I would love a set of bowls made like that and then shine it up if you could answer these few questions for me I will greatly appreciate it and like I said if you at all tell them please let me know because I am very interested in purchasing a set of your banksia pod bowls thank you. and keep up the good work.
+ Tracy Sabb Thank you very much for watching and for your interest. I am on a business trip for about two weeks. If you send you contact information to iturntwo@outlook.com I will pull together some information for you.
+Thor's Gaming Channel thanks for watching. I rewatched that portion of the video, but did not mention that I used Maple to sandwich the banksia pods. I was looking for more contract. Thanks, and have fun.
+kingswoodkid1985 I agree. In my case the challenge is my mediocre skill level and I find the easy wood tools just a bit easier to handle at times. I continue to try and am spending more time with my gouges and the skew. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
no worries, i guess i was a bit spoilt, as i learnt how to use gouges and the skew while at school! personally, no offence, i can't stand that scrapers are becomming the accepted tools for turning.................. it's also interesting to see americans using so many banksia pods, something that alot of aussie turners seem to regard as a waste product!
NAYDENO V INETE The Banksia pod from flowers etc., is indigenous to Australia. This is a link to wikipedia that can describe the banksia pods in more detail: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksia I hope you have the opportunity to come across some as they offer nice opportunities for creative turning. Thanks Chuck
You must have a great set of wood working tools. That was a pretty rough circle to work with and it's perfectly round and smooth. Job well done!
Interesting to see how you work with Banksia. By the way take of your fingers working with the bandsaw ;-). Thanks for sharing.
They make great popery holders

You would have saved a bunch of material segmenting that hollow. Why did you go solid?
Qwiv You are right, but In the end, i think i was just lazy.

what kind of epoxy did you use?
It is just a general 5 minute expoy purchased at home depot.
you know, you could get a better finish using cutting tools instead of scrapers........................
