Loving this project,no drawings,no cad,no expensive fabrication or out sourcing. Just a man with a grinder and a dream.
Thanks, it takes the METABO grinder for this sort of action. But yes, there is no high budget to be spent here… unfortunately! Lol
@@pedenconceptz Just goes to show what can be done with a couple of unwanted old motors and a healthy helping of ingenuity! 😊👍🏻
A man. A grinder and a dream. I like that turn of phrase.
@@pedenconceptz one bit at a time until you see the bigger picture
Can anyone tell me where to buy this 6r4 kit?, Thinking about trying something like this but only if a can get all sourced first Thanks
Gearbox sticking a bit out the back is a full on no #### given racecar look, love it! Actually just in general love this project!
Thanks, yes, I don’t mind the look…. Just that’s out far enough for my tastes
Absolutely loving this. When I first started watching this (with my mouth agape) I couldn’t see how the hell you would marry these 2 together. Absolutely hats off to you, your vision, your skills and your ingenuity 👏👏👏
Thanks, I wasn’t sure on a few things myself but it’s coming together!
I'm rooting for you mate, you have some serious talent and vision. My first car was a 1.0 Metro and one of my current cars is a 986 Boxster. I'm fascinated!
I have vision anyway… not sure about the rest! Lol
It's videotitles like this that get me excited. What a breath of fresh air compared to "EBAY COILS ON THE Z?!!! POPS N BANGS!"
Thanks, yes it’s a pretty involved one, but hopefully should progress at a decent rate.
The Petro is really looking well now! Some amount of work, thans for showing us the build. 👍
I must admit I thought it wouldn't work but I'm now a believer!!😊, 💪
I wasn’t sure myself until recently. I think the sills came in well that the skirts cover them
Roll cage inside the pillars would be a good idea
Yes, that would be the plan, although 35mm is an uncommon pipe size, and the one guy I’ve found who can do it, I might have to wait a few weeks on. But plenty else to do
Even in this mocking up stage it looks spot on. Great progress with this episode.
Thanks. 👍
The progress in one video is amazing! loving the build so far :)
Twisted genius! Loving the progress and whole thought processes involved! Great video
Thanks, hard to know how much info to put in a video
@@pedenconceptz all of it! This sorta build brings out my inner nerd… 6R4 is iconic to many folk so interest in a road going version should be really high… plus the way you’re going about it is nuts!! In a good way! 😎👍
Absolutely brilliant series, you both the vision and the ability I am so impressed
Vision yes, ability… debatable!
She's taking shape! Good job
Loving your work and vision mate.
I can't wait for the next video
Jeez - this is a project and a half. Really admire you - this is excellent work! Thanks for sharing this, and Hi to all of our good friends throughout the island of Ireland - so many good memories!
Loving the project. You've made great progress.
Love the way this is going. Really like your methodical approach and the way you explain everything. Top project, keep it up.👌
Thanks, it’s difficult to know what to include, fine line between info and making it boring, I think anyway
Ok, I'll admit I was sceptical about this (see my comment on the previous episode) but this is looking "doable" now. Hats off to you 👏
Yea, I am really impressed with the boxster chassis, discarding it to build something out of the metro I think would have been a downgrade… unless your planing on building a completion car like Rover did
This looks absolutely mad! I wish you major luck in getting that kit fitting well!
Coming on well. I do like your problem solving. Looking forward to your next video.
Looks fantastic, loving this build.
Great progress! ...It's looking very much like the 6r4! ...keep it up!
Love the progress you've made, it's going to be awesome
great vision with this build and amazing progress keep content coming and good luck!
Loving this project, making cracking progress
Just started watching this project series. Loving the way you’re rising to the challenge and looking forward to seeing how things progress. Thanks for explaining your thinking at every stage. It makes it all the more interesting. Good on ya!
Thanks. It’s hard to know. In the last video I had people say there was too much talking and others that liked that part.
@@pedenconceptz Don’t try too hard to please people, mate. You’ll end up pleasing nobody and lose the essential charm of the channel. They should think themselves lucky you give ‘em time lapses! 😁
Just do what feels right, enjoy the positive interaction and ignore the negative Nancys - I doubt they’d ever have the guts to lay into a Porsche with an angle grinder! 🤣
I’m not sure I heard you mention what you’re going to do with the car once you’re done. Are you planning to do rallies or will she be a road car? Keep up the good work! 😊👍🏻
Thanks, it’s going to be a road car but I fancy the idea of a track day in it!
@@pedenconceptz Sounds great! I remember seeing a few 6R4’s in tarmac spec hammering it around a few stages and the odd circuit. Your project should have a lower COG too! Have you put any thought into whether you’ll get the motor “breathed on” or are you planning to keep it stock?
I love everything about this project.
I instantly subscribed after seeing your thumbnail. Good job and good luck! Look forward to more vids from you!
Taking shape, great video 👍
Totally awesome project and video! I doff my cap to you and your talent......old school proper engineering talent. Looking forward to more videos
I wouldn’t mind a bit of modern talent though. I might have to invest in a few new tools and such
Love this build , love your enthusiasm.
Keep it up 👍
Il tell my wife you said I was enthusiastic, she might not agree! Lol
1st video I've seen from you,just subscribed,great project!
What a totally insane idea, congratulations sir.
much respect for this project !!!
Actually looking like a 6.r.4...massive respect 🙏, brov, your doing a top job....respect....the metro's .we're dog doo dar....back in the day.....the re build will give it a true sense of meaning...keep doin what you do.....shabba...😊😊😊
Great work man, looks amazing
Enjoying how fast these videos are coming in
Well needing to do the videos helps push the project on I find
Wonderful video, looking forward to seeing the rest of the build.
Thanks, trying to get a little better with each video!
That sill will be fine like that. 👍🏻. Loving the build 😎🤙🏻👌🏻
Yes, I’m inclined to think so. You can tell even when you jack it up, it’s very sturdy… plus it will have a roof
Love it mate thanks for taking your time to film it all
No problem! Makes it a bit more interesting for me!
Well done, and what a project……. Just awesome
Cracking project love the whole process 👍
Good luck. It is a project I could never dream of doing.
Nice work Thomas, 👏 the fruits of ur labors will soon ripen.
Wow! what a project, looks awesome already. Well done!
Thanks! It’s starting to look like something!
That looks awesome. Love it. Great work 👏
Great build so far, keep up the good work! Subbed!
When I built my replica I fibre glassed the tailgate skin onto the original steel tailgate, worked perfectly. Had to adapt the door light recess's slightly and welded and welded some sheet metal onto the bottom of the door for added strength behind the number plate section.
Excellent, I think I have my tailgate from the same place as yours, so at least I know that will work. Although I do have the later tailgate to start with
Hat off to you ! 👍🏻 loving your build 👍🏻
I'm extremely impressed with your vision and ability to see where you can cut to make this feasible. And also nothing seems to phase you, good luck with it🤞
Well as somebody told me once it’s only metal, so in ‘most’ cases it’s possible to undo your mistake if you make one…. Just more work
@@pedenconceptz yes for sure it's all about confidence, and also welding skills!
Fantastic project. It’s amazing how it looked really like a metro once you cut the front and rear overhangs off
That’s why I couldn’t look at the overhangs any longer, really was questionable about the front fitting until I seen the old bit cut off.
Yeah agree with lots of the comments...Great build, loving the updates, keep them coming. You dont seem to be phased by any part of this project!!
You've made amazing progress.
Loving the Range Rovers in the background.
We do like a Range Rover round here to be fair!
Awesome build. Love it 😊
Great video, great content, I'm loving following this build, cant wait for the next one. 😊
Thanks very much, appreciated!
Wish i lived clise to your area because if i did i would be on my knees begging you to let me help with this amazing project, simply because ive always loved the look of the 6R4. I owned a metro once which i purchased from my sister for £50 when i was around 14 i beleive (im now 41 so a few moons ago😂) and my intentions were to put it in the garage, get the 6R4 kit and make a ptoject out of it, unfortunately it never happened and it ended up at the scrap yard after sub frame snapping among other things. Wish i was there with you man because as i said this is a awesome project and cant waith to see it finished, i wish you all the luck in world my friend
Thank you to the algorithm for this video what a great project and what great work you are doing thanks for sharing it with us
Thanks very much, I’m glad you found your way here! 👍
Just found out about this project. I love it excited for more!
Looking forward to following this build! Going to be pretty nice especially with flat 6 note from the boxster engine. Owned a 987 2.7 manual some years back and was a good car, enough power and nicely balanced for handling. Never imagined someone would pop a metro body on one😊👍
And this should be a good bit lighter, I did enjoy driving it before I chipped it up.
Brilliant work mate, I’d love to do something like this, might give it a go now!! Thank you
its looking bang on already mate fingers crossed you can sort out all the little bits and bobs and getting fitting even better 👍
Great progress 👌
Love the way this is going
Enjoying this project
This looks like it's going to be a fun driver!
This looks a job and a half! Be good to see it finished 👍
Fella this is just awesome, lovin it!
Man I hope with every bit of what I have that you will see this project through. Earned a subscriber with this one!
Thanks, I’ve spent all my money on it so Il have to see it through
That is one cool looking portro!!
killer content loving it keep it up
This video just showed up on my home page looking forward to see how you progress and i have subscribed so good luck dude
Thanks very much for watching!
Love it. Keep trimming away. Gonna be wild
I love this build
Coming along nicely, getting the main dimensions properly sorted now will pay you back later with less fettling of the bodykit and alteration of the lines. Love the plan to put the rollgage inside the pillars like the original 6R4 too, in reality, you need all the room you can get and it's no bad thing to use the same solution.
Yes, I don’t think I’m too far away now. Maybe up/down at the back or front, I don’t think il bring it any further forwards, it’s starting to get more complicated the further I go
Top build, started watching shine autos start an xr2 shell on a audi TT, build went on hold many moonz ago now, gona follow this fella, some great fab wrk, 👍 💭 thinkin outside the box 👌
Shine automotive, yes I was watching that myself
@@pedenconceptz good lads but they've taken on other big jobs, itl never get finished now 😢
absolutely loving this build. being a fan of the 6r4 for many years, only ever owning an '86 mg metro im loving this coming together! in regards to reference id recommend looking for the 'real vs rep' 6r4 video for getting gaps and lines and other things that may help as it gets in depth regarding a few things. All the best!
I’ve watched all the 6r4 videos including that one. Yea, they sort of are what they are, but I intend to just adapt it whatever way I need to for it to look the way I want.
Quality bud! Looking forward to seeing your build progress!
😂🤣😂 The international tool of arch measurement 🫳🏻
Never seen a tradesman use a tape measure yet… it’s number of fingers
That one kind of a build that love it your own man hours doing it be watching more
This is going to be a beast
Awesome project!
This is awesome. Subbed.
what a masterpiece! beautiful
Well, not yet! Lol
This is looking great, the lack of gaps between the shell and floorpan at the rear is very impressive.
If the rest of it fitted like that it would be great but if course the rest will take some work. But ultimately I want it fitting together like that everywhere, eventually
@@pedenconceptz Keep doing what you're doing, if you can keep this work rate up "eventually" wont be that far away!
I just noticed how many views your last two videos have got, congratulations, you deserve it.
Thanks, I really wasn’t expecting the views that it got, I had thought I’d have got some experience making the videos better quality before any real number of people watched them, but I certainly can’t complain.
She looking good so far👍👍👍👍👍
Hi. Great to see another northern Ireland car nut! Lol
I done something similar a few years ago, dropping a puma body over a shortened sierra xr4x4 floorpan. Worked out really well. Love the petro! I did notice something about the a piller/door ideas. If you move the hindge point towards the centre of the door, that will mean the door skin has to clear further into the a pillers when the door opens. If it was my project, i would keep the doors standard and modify the piller/sill areas to suit. You have to do this anyway so why make more work for yourself. Plus, if you are going to fit a 35mm cage and hide it in the a piller/roof pillers, that will put plenty of strength back into the pillers. Looking forward to the next video.
There is a box section with boron steel in it behind the pillar, if I cut it I’m not sure if I can weld it. I’d rather leave it be, put it like that. I am aware of the pivot point, I’m intending to get different hinges or alter the ones I have.
Just subbed This works it's going to be insane 👌
Loving the build. As for the door i would just tig a strip of metal to extend the door skin forward. then use a scribe to mark a 1/2" gap then cut it. saves having to move the door forward. unless you are willing to spend hundreds of hours on the roof, widening is crazy. even done super well the flex causes it to show back up in a year or 2.
The size of the door I don’t plans to change, but rather the wing as the fit of it needs work anyway. And fibreglass can be easy to work with in that respect… although difficult in others
Awesome, stay at it!
Nicely done
This is proving to be an epic build. My favourite and arguably the most bonkers group B rally car replica built on arguably the best small(ish) sportscar of the last 30 years.
Yep, that was my thoughts, hopefully when I get it all out together nothing is lost in translation.
This is epic, fair play to you John.
Thanks very much, it’s a big project for sure
Dare I say it, could you move the shell back again about 3-4mm? It would help that front arch centre over the wheel and reduce the gap from the arch to the door hinge point, AND bring more of the gearbox back under the rear of the body, but at the cost of the rear wheel being less centred in the arch? (Then add some plastic back into the rear arch and re-centre/cut the hole?) Lots of work now, but worth sorting so that you dont stare at the bits you dont like when its completed.
If I move it back the front arch gets worse. If I move it forward the gearbox gets worse. I think this is the spot for it, a little fibreglass work to the front wing and it will be fine…. I think. Either way I won’t be staring at it’s wrong, if it’s not right it will get re done
Wow its going to look awesome when all done I'm new to your channel and looking forward to watching more episodes 👍🏻
Thanks for watching, yea, I really do hope it turns into something quite nice!
Fab, great update!
I have no suggestions as you are doing a cracking job already buddy
Thanks very much
Nice project 👍 I've subbed
Really coming together! Keep it up. :-)
This is going to be awesome 😲👍🏻🏆
Looking good mate
