I remember butchering this piece at a high school recital over ten years ago, but I earlier NAILED Sunburst in front of a crowd of over 3000 so I can't be too bitter about Andrew York's influence on me. A great man, composer and player. So glad this video is on RUclips. I feel like I couldn't find it for forever.
Andrew York has made some tricky pieces. I love his music for the beautiful chords and unorthodox styles. Emergence is such a rare piece, I couldn't buy it off his website.
I wonder how long it took him to nail this piece and for it to be fluent and effortless. I have no idea what it would be like to be that amazing a player.
Very impressive techniques and his mastery of them, I don't know if I could learn how to apply this to my own playing, but I am going to give it a try. Mr. York is a very gifted musician and composer. I am new to Classical Guitar as far as playing the instrument, at age 76, I decided to add this instrument to Piano, Violin/Fiddle, and flat picked Bluegrass style Guitar. I am finding out I might just as well have picked out Bassoon or French Horn for all the good my many years experience with these various instruments has helped me with Classical Guitar, Violin and Piano at least allows me to read the music, but my 63 years experience as a flatpicker is pretty much useless in helping me to learn Classical Guitar, it is like starting out all over again. Mr. York is inspiring to new players like me, though some of his work is a little bit outside my area of interest, the techniques certainly, and some of his composing is attractive to me. I'm glad I found this channel.
This tune is the third and final part of the composition "Three Diagrams", which York recorded on his cd Denouement (1994). I might be tempted to say that this sounds almost like a Bach meets metal guitar tune were it not that it is just a real original composition. I was surprised when York played each of the 'Three Diagrams' tunes at different parts of his concert in Dublin in 2010 and I was also glad to be able to get him to sign the sleeve of my Denouement cd and talk for a bit after the concert. It was a great concert, but it was played in a church with no advertising and I think I was perhaps the only non-guitarist there, judging by conversation on the day. Everyone, including John Feeley (who was there), was obviously elated by the performance, though. All York's own compositions and all good. He debuted a couple of his tunes that later appeared on the Yamour record at that concert, including 'Skerries', named after the Dublin village that he stayed in before the show, so he claimed, because he and his wife could not afford accommodation in the city itself! Talent always gets rewarded in this life (ahem)...
Hi, Andreas here from LeftoverVISUALS, the guy who made this film with Andrew. Thanks for your comments. I can't answer questions concerning Andrew and/or his nstrument. Contact him over his website please.
Innovative and melodic with nice texture. Sounds like 2 guitars at some places. I have some compositions that are examples of that (look up As Far As The Eye Can See by Tim Hillwood if curious)
@@tunapriest9392 It's not so unlikely if you ask me; Mechanism is either the result of York listening to Dream Theater / Tool like music or an unbelievable, Newton - Leibniz calculus development size coincidence.
I've been playing classical and jazz guitar for almost 40 years and I still can't make myself like this guys songs. They just aren't interesting to my ears. I get that he's got great technique but the harmony doesn't ever go anywhere. The formula is always D - D - D - D - D - Tension - D - D - D - D - Tension - Drone - Drone - Tension, etc... There isn't any adventure in the harmony ever.
not all classical has to be the same. this guy is obviously very rock influenced and it's kind of nice to hear these tropes melded with classical techniques.
He is so amazing. Speechless...and in awe!
Still my favorite classical guitar piece.

Very very beautiful, powerful, inspiring. This compositon and performance are Absolute top notch.
York is an amazingly good composer of contemporary guitar music. I really enjoy his music and his playing.

York's music and playing echoes an understanding of truth the happier of us would be content simply pondering...
Andrew you are just brilliant
Guitar is by Matthias Dammann if you're still wondering.
