    I'm loving my lunch box welder from HTP! Using it now to weld a new hitch on my trailer. If I could do it over again, this would have been the first welder I bought. It welds like a dream. I have multiple welders, but this one is my go to, because it's so simple to setup!

    Those block are going to snap off if not anchored at the bottom hole. Swiss cheese concrete and youre using wedge anchors?! Nope

    • @tedsoares3159
      @tedsoares3159 4 года назад

      Thats a homeowner unit from vestil < Those people installing the equipment dont have a clue .? Leveler is installed first. But first the angle their installing to is not worthy to hold a EOD it was rust deteriorated and needed structural support under bottom half was home depot blockouts. Find something else to weld in your garage?

  • @BigHayes7771
    @BigHayes7771 6 лет назад +1

    You can use the hammerdrill itself with a blunt bit to drive the anchors into the hole

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  6 лет назад +1

      chadwick hayes absolutely you can ! And when i have to put 30 or more anchors in i usually do that too .... if its only a hand full or 2 hands full of anchors i done mind driving them in by hand

      Frank yazzetta thank you! I try to do a fair share of field service videos - there are a few challenges with that....
      1) not every customer lets you video tape and publish the job
      2) it needs to be a flat bid job - cant be hourly because with videotaping everything takes twice as long ( and of course the customer does not want to and should not have to pay for that )
      3) right now business is good - we are working 12+ hrs a day even without video taping .... and seeing it takes so much longer video taping and editing - i have to make a business decision - make money or make a youtube video that i make about $20 on over the next year ....
      So i try to make videos as i can....

      Thanks - we got lucky - forklift makes it just fine without a transition plate

  • @boneyfreak9197
    @boneyfreak9197 6 лет назад

    Worked on those before. Seen a lot of weld breaks where there's undercut of the base material after the fact like the welding done in this video. Maybe a 2nd pass or FCAW should be used to get proper fill and penetration. Those humpback welds are just blobs on metal with little penetration.

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  6 лет назад +4

      boneyfreak - WELCOME TO THE CHANNEL i am glad you were able to identify you (let me quote you) "humpback welds".
      congratulations - you are the first guy to do so.
      This dock leveler is up and installed now for well over a year - at 5-10 trucks being loaded and unloaded daily with a 9000 lbs forklift and up to 4000 lbs cargo on the forks and boy did we sure get lucky - it is still holding up believe it or not !!! btw - the dock leveler right next to it was install about 6 years prior in a similar fashion .... and we must have gotten really lucky on that one !!!! because that one is still holding up too ! no welds cracked - nothing re welded nothing needed to be fixed in any way sort shape or form ......
      but sometimes it is just better to be lucky than to be good.
      i hav heard of really good welders and then they found a guy who was better than them .....
      but i never heard of a real lucky welder and someone came an out luckier him ....

    Pretty Welds, Love the cutter!
    Gap between the bumpers and the EOD deck is too wide. There could be an injury when someone steps in it.
    Look at the gap between the bumpers and the EOD on the left dock it looks to be correct.
    Did you do this on purpose so you could make another video showing cutting out a plate and adding it to eliminate the gap?

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  5 лет назад +1

      Leif Berner the bumpers need to be where the bumper need to be! They line up with the truck.
      They are identical between left and right side ( the bumper spacing is identical)
      The left dock has a 72” wide leveler the right side had a 60” wide leveler
      Thank you for voicing your concern - looking at what i just explained i can not share the concern.
      If i would move the bumpers closer together i would damage the truck

    damn i deleted the reply haha well here again, thank you peter for taking your time, i`ll get the small one bc i have to make a zillion 13mm anchor bolts in an upcoming job and i trust your advice (on welders has come extremely well !). hope it comes with some sort of dampening for my wrists :). oh, i`ll take your advice on the hair too... ppl are asking crazy money for haircuts these days :D. take care. pete
    ps my gf teaches german at the local goethe institute, i showed her the shotgun video and she`s still laughing.

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  7 лет назад +1

      13mm ... that is not very challenging .... i once drilled about 200 1/2" anchor holes in concrete 6" deep each in a day ... my hand were not numb at the end of the day .... that thing laughs about 1/2" bit ... even if you hit a piece of steel re enforcement in the concrete ... typical it drills right through it

    • @thebrokenbone
      @thebrokenbone 7 лет назад

      200!! man that i`m sure i could not do! i broke my wrist in a mc accident years ago and it has made my life a bit hard, now it swells up if i abuse it... and age (why lie about it haha)

  • @lukejackson9418

    Question?? Is it easier to install the bumpers first? Then the Loding dock. Or either preference is fine

    • @lukejackson9418

      Strictly a welder but 6011 I find to work better on horizontal

    • @ZILAwelds

      it does not matter to me - its a matter of measuring and layout ... whatever works bet for you

    • @ZILAwelds

      6011 runs good downhill .... 7018 needs to be welded uphill no matter what

    What type of electrodes were in the box and how many amps were you set at on the vertical welds?

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  7 лет назад

      Adam Johanson in the yellow box was a maintenance rod with a cellulosic based coating 1/8" 100 amps vertical down
      In the white and red metal tube was lincoln excalibur 7018 1/8" 120 amp and 125 amp with pulse vertical up
      ( more on the flat)

  • @butchmcintyre5196

    install your dock in place first then install your bumpers I have done this work a lot . one bumper is out of square

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  6 лет назад

      so ope that side it would have worked the way how you tell me - on the left side (that dock was installed years ago ... once the dock is in - you cant get to the bumpers any more (with weld) not outing ) because the other dock is wider ... and initially this dock here food have been the same with - but they shipped one that was 6" narrower ... so on this one i could have done it the way how you say ...
      i don't think welding the bumpers and the dock plate to the angle in the concrete is "proper procedure" anyways.....

    • @ZILAwelds

      p penca the haircut - was only partially by choice .... i was doing some overhead spray foam insulation and found out : over head welding is a lot easier than overhead spray foam insulation .... its better for your hair too 😂😜

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  7 лет назад +1

      The hammer drill is a Bosch 11240 - which i have just learned is discontinued the model that follows it is a Bosch RH540M I like this hammer for medium duty work ..... i drill a lot of 1/2" and 3/4" with it and some occasional 30mm (about 1 1/4") it's a good medium duty drill ..... if you are looking for something more and if you want to use core drills bits ..... i also have a bigger one - the bigger model got replaced with RH1255VC now THAT is about 3 times the money - but drills 5" core bits just fine :-)

      No, the manufacture called it edge of dock leveler better known as(EOD). A dock leveler is different in which give more workable adjustment range for fork truck.

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  7 лет назад

      This is an HTP Sticker CSV it is a few years old - i believe they don't make it anymore - and because i didn't like the headgear i switched it over to a Jackson safety 370 head gear .....
      i personally don't like automatic welding helmets much ... i think they are good for cutting or tack welding
      If precision welding matters i personally prefer a Jackson Halo shell with a fixed shade 9 or 10 real glass lens gold coated ..... the clarity of the image and the even tint is hard to beat .....
      if you are looking for an automatic one - if mine would go bad today - i would probably buy an HTP Sticker XXL .... i like it a lot (as much as i can like automatic hoods :-)

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds  6 лет назад

      Manivannan S you mean how much the job is worth?
      All depends on where ( which city and state) it is
      The customer supplied the parts
      I call this a 3 ( for sure no more than 4) hrs job .... multiply that times the “going rate” in your area .... anywhere from $75-$150 per hour ....
      than add some travel time ( depending on how far you had to drive ...)
      Just to tell you a number - where i am - this would be a 4-500 all in ( travel, generator fuel, cut iff wheels, welding supplies and labor ...)
