Massively underrated game considering how good it was compared to other games in 2006. I bought it that summer and stopped after my 1st playthrough, wish id played it more, a lot of hyped and lauded games are only as good as prey and much younger too

I don't think Prey 2 is about Tommy, it's about a human protagonist captured by aliens and has to work as a bounty hunter in a alien world in order to go back to Earth.

The new prey is about you being trapped on a space station with shapeshifting aliens and you have some experimental cybernetics in you. Truth be told it's really bad.

I really enjoyed the ending, it could be something cliche with Tommy rescuing Jen and saving the earth like a folk hero, but the story itself shows how him transforms to be a better man, since the beginning, Tommy is selfish and hates the life he has in the reservation, he desperately tries to convince Jen to move away with him, when the sphere abducts them, Tommy only wants to save Jen, Enisi even tries to tell him that his role is a bigger one of saving the planet from being consumed by the sphere, but he couldn't care less for this and his cherokee heritage powers are just tools for his own objective that why he refuses the training, but in the part where Jen is transformed into a monster is the moment where Tommy has to grow himself to be a selfless person, forced to mercifully kill his own girlfriend could also be a part where he could become a vengeful warrior, but he become even better, by finally losing what he had he understand what was need to be done for the greater good, so much that he finally accepts his training and also proudly proclaims as a warrior of the cherokee nation, fully accepting his own heritage and the mission to save his people from the sphere, revenge was not even on his head for the most part. i also like when he is initially tempted by the power of the sphere showing that even if he growth along the way, he is still a flawed guy, and could have becomed the next "mother" if he didn't lost Jen. in the post credit, not only he is still living the reservation, but he also repaired his late girlfriend's bar and for what it looks like, is happy and grateful for he has.
The 2017 PREY is not only completely different, but ended in an even worse cliffhanger. At least the 2006 PREY ending is hopeful, with the dude continuing to be a hero. In 2017 PREY, there is no dude. You aren't even a dude. Humanity is already lost.

Came here from the Microsoft aquisition of Bethesda. Fingers crossed that we can see a remake of this game and/or a restoration of the cancelled Prey 2.
Considering that it takes eight minutes for sunlight to reach Earth, the speed and science and technology of the Sphere is a frightening thing. As a sci-fi game, Prey's gadgets are highly original. At the time I was in high school and I could not buy an expensive video capture card. One individual gamer recorded Prey at the highest settings and uploaded the play video to his home server. RUclips was not very common at the time, so I would go to his server and look forward to the high quality play video uploads every day. I am still grateful to him today.
Did anyone else notice that in the part where you ignite the pillars on the rocky orb to open the portal , the eerie music that plays is almost identical to that of doom 3 main menu?
Was this game actually good? I found it interesting that it's main character is a cherokee.....that's pretty ballsy considering how few in number they * all native americans in general * and thus practically non-existent in the gaming market. I am happy a game does exist where one is the main character though.
+RebirthWoWGuild I loved it! I picked it up a year ago and it was a lot of fun. The environments are creepy and atmospheric (the alien ship is pretty much a living creature and your roaming around in its intestines) The weapons are also very cool. You have the standard rifle, gernades, machine gun etc. but they're, again, very organic looking. Also the portal thing is pretty awesome if a bit unpolishhed, but you can excuse it since it was one of the first games to heavily implement it. Finally, the lead character's really likable and makes a lot of funny quips. Plus his Cherokee heritage comes into play with the health system. Really great stuff.

So the distance between Earth and the Sun is about 150 million kilometers. The Sphere makes that trip in about 25 seconds, meaning it travels at exactly twice the speed of light. Even assuming that FTL travel would be able to be observed like this, shouldn't the impact of something the size of the Sphere at 2C really fuck up the sun?

I don't think his original body died, it was the mutated bonding with the sphere, that may have been his spirit form too, that's how he was strong enough to control it, after all. Since this game uses a lot of symbolism, the Sphere is essentially a harvester but also a creator, Sphere Tommy was akin to God, like the Keeper alluded to, maybe also the Devil, since even he was overwhelmed by the power he was given, temptation.

The 2017 Prey game has nothing to do with this, and to clarify it's dev team had no intention to name it Prey in the first place. The studio demanded it from them. Anyway, both games are 5/5 awesome.
Looking at the comments, I realize that there's no way you can please people. Either you make it like the first, and it becomes 'a play on your nostalgia with outdated features' or you make it different and 'it isn't keeping the original spirit of the game'. At least if the Prey reboot fails, Bethesda will recognize it and fix its mistakes if it makes a Prey 2. Hell, seeing what they did with the Fallout series, they may bring Tommy back.
Careful Chronicler Except it wasn't "play your own nostalgia" a Prey 2 was in the works ANF set to be released with a clear plan in mind, it was cancelled. To want something that was planned from the beginning is not "nostalgia" And on the Subject of the Fallout series, they made A LOT of mistakes with 3 and 4. Too many, they're good games, but terrible Fallout games.
RIP your hopes of getting an actual Prey sequel, because the new one was good. That means if there's a "Prey 2" it will be a sequel to the reboot, not the original.
Even though Prey (2006) is not on steam, you can add it by using the serial in the old CD copy of the game. Also the CD version works as standalone too (not required to add the key to steam). Some people have added the game to steam in not so lawful ways by using keys gotten from key resellers or by even using a keygen. In short only way to get it, is to buy used one, or a serial from key resellers hoping the best.

They true Prey 2 looked so wonderfui. It's such a shame this game didn't sell as well as it deserved. IMO it was the best DOOM3 engine game ever, even better than Doom3. Just imagine how an open world in this universe would had been where you get to play a cyberpunk bountyhunter.

You know you should actually play Prey 2017 before judging it - I'm halfway through it (ish) and it's really good. Nice balance between suspenseful horror and high-octane action, on a very well fleshed out station. The concept behind it is actually very cool if you're willing to acknowledge it for even a second, but you're simply saying it's bad just because it doesn't continue an average game from 2006, and you're salty because a sequel was never made. As for Bethesda "bullying" Human Head, well I'm sorry to say it but that's just business and the world we live in, it's not pretty and nice it's shit and it's all about money. Seriously, if you're not willing to pay for it then borrow it from someone if possible or at least watch someone play through it properly on RUclips or something - it's very well made. No it's not the Prey you know, but in no way does it shame the old game or the studio that made it. It's a great game that happens to share the same IP. PS If you genuinely think that other Bethesda games are bad then you either have an inability to judge game quality or simply hate Bethesda for some reason. PPS The reason Skyrim, Fallout etc.. have lots of bugs is because Open world games always do - it's hard enough to make a good liner game... But when you make a story non-linear and put it into a open sandbox world, then that creates more opportunities for glitches to arise - each player will do everything differently and there's no way Bethesda (or any other developer for that matter) could have imagined and prepared for every situation. For the same reason they're very hard to fix because in order to fix something they have to figure out what causes it first - this means recreating the specific scenario it first arrived in which means playing the entire game exactly the same as the person who discovered to glitch so that the code registers in the same way... and even then it still may not because of the AI code in the game, because NPCs move around and do things on their own it's almost impossible to recreate a situation perfectly. tl;dr Prey 2017 is good, try it before you judge it. & You're judging Bethesda and their games too harshly with no basis for your argument except for "They're bullies who make shit games with glitches".

It was pretty good. Probably first game to use portals in game (same as valve`s Portal). It is definitely very underrated game.

Both Prey's are fantastic in their own rights. I just wish people could stop squabbling over them.
So the distance between Earth and the Sun is about 150 million kilometers. The Sphere makes that trip in about 25 seconds, meaning it travels at exactly twice the speed of light. Even assuming that FTL travel would be able to be observed like this, shouldn't the impact of something the size of the Sphere at 2C really fuck up the sun?

I don't think his original body died, it was the mutated bonding with the sphere, that may have been his spirit form too, that's how he was strong enough to control it, after all.
Since this game uses a lot of symbolism, the Sphere is essentially a harvester but also a creator, Sphere Tommy was akin to God, like the Keeper alluded to, maybe also the Devil, since even he was overwhelmed by the power he was given, temptation.

The 2017 Prey game has nothing to do with this, and to clarify it's dev team had no intention to name it Prey in the first place. The studio demanded it from them.

Looking at the comments, I realize that there's no way you can please people. Either you make it like the first, and it becomes 'a play on your nostalgia with outdated features' or you make it different and 'it isn't keeping the original spirit of the game'. At least if the Prey reboot fails, Bethesda will recognize it and fix its mistakes if it makes a Prey 2. Hell, seeing what they did with the Fallout series, they may bring Tommy back.

And on the Subject of the Fallout series, they made A LOT of mistakes with 3 and 4. Too many, they're good games, but terrible Fallout games.

Where can I buy this game? It’s not on Steam or GOG or anything, only the unrelated reboot.
Even though Prey (2006) is not on steam, you can add it by using the serial in the old CD copy of the game. Also the CD version works as standalone too (not required to add the key to steam). Some people have added the game to steam in not so lawful ways by using keys gotten from key resellers or by even using a keygen. In short only way to get it, is to buy used one, or a serial from key resellers hoping the best.

I played this years ago and was kind of hyped about Prey 2016... I came back and watched the ending to this, then watched the trailer for the new Prey.... On steam sale or not, I'm not buying that crap until I get to see these new beings!

Why are people hating on the new prey? I think it is an amazing game with innovative features and narrative. Sure, it has nothing to do with this prey, but why are people hating on it just because it shares a name. People just put up their noses and won't even give the new prey a shot.

They true Prey 2 looked so wonderfui. It's such a shame this game didn't sell as well as it deserved. IMO it was the best DOOM3 engine game ever, even better than Doom3. Just imagine how an open world in this universe would had been where you get to play a cyberpunk bountyhunter.

You know you should actually play Prey 2017 before judging it - I'm halfway through it (ish) and it's really good. Nice balance between suspenseful horror and high-octane action, on a very well fleshed out station. The concept behind it is actually very cool if you're willing to acknowledge it for even a second, but you're simply saying it's bad just because it doesn't continue an average game from 2006, and you're salty because a sequel was never made.
As for Bethesda "bullying" Human Head, well I'm sorry to say it but that's just business and the world we live in, it's not pretty and nice it's shit and it's all about money.
Seriously, if you're not willing to pay for it then borrow it from someone if possible or at least watch someone play through it properly on RUclips or something - it's very well made.
No it's not the Prey you know, but in no way does it shame the old game or the studio that made it. It's a great game that happens to share the same IP.

If you genuinely think that other Bethesda games are bad then you either have an inability to judge game quality or simply hate Bethesda for some reason.

The reason Skyrim, Fallout etc.. have lots of bugs is because Open world games always do - it's hard enough to make a good liner game... But when you make a story non-linear and put it into a open sandbox world, then that creates more opportunities for glitches to arise - each player will do everything differently and there's no way Bethesda (or any other developer for that matter) could have imagined and prepared for every situation.
For the same reason they're very hard to fix because in order to fix something they have to figure out what causes it first - this means recreating the specific scenario it first arrived in which means playing the entire game exactly the same as the person who discovered to glitch so that the code registers in the same way... and even then it still may not because of the AI code in the game, because NPCs move around and do things on their own it's almost impossible to recreate a situation perfectly.
tl;dr
Prey 2017 is good, try it before you judge it.
