One of the greatest Hollywood epics ever filmed, Judah Ben-Hur (#CharltonHeston) is a member of the Jewish nobility living in Jerusalem who peacefully opposes the tyrannical Roman occupation. When a boyhood friend, Messala (#StephenBoyd), returns to the region as a Roman official, he and Judah become estranged due to Messala's fanatical loyalty to Rome. Casting friendship aside, Messala fabricates a charge of treason against Ben-Hur, his sister and mother, all of whom are arrested by Roman soldiers.

I was in high school when this glorious, epic film was released in theaters. It changed my life…a truly soulful, spiritual experience. 60 years later it still moves me to me core.

Just so everybody knows, in Hebrew, the word: Ben...means 'son of' 'or daughter of' (of the family Hur) women were also known as 'of the family' in a formal introduction. So, therefore, Ben Hur (son of the surname of his family: Hur).

Forget the recent remake, it was so poor and a shambles. This original is the best and classic. This is one of the best movies ever with great score from Miklós Rozsa

Ben-Hur are registered trademarks of Turner Entertainment and Warner Bros. Entertainment. MGM no longer holds rights to this film and the other films they made from 1920s to May 1986. So yeah, don't give MGM credit, they lost it when they sold their films rights to Turner Ent. which were later accuired by WB in the 90s. The pre-1987 MGM library belongs to WB. Rights, trademark, copyright, property, marketing and licensing belong to WB. So please erase the MGM trademark and put WB next to Turner.

@@carlorodriguez-martinez8014 Well, give Warners credit for not removing the MGM logo from the film and sticking the WB shield and "Warner Bros. presents a Tale of the Christ" in the credits. For anyone who claims to revere history, that would be bastardizing history. "Ben-Hur" saved MGM from bankruptcy in 1959, a fate which threatened the once-great studio on numerous occasions later. The bottom line in the copyright issue, for historical accuracy, should read (c), 1959, Loew's Inc. (MGM's parent company), renewed, 1987, Turner Entertainment. But to stick either the Turner or Warners names for the original 1959 copyright would be inaccurate since (a) Warners had nothing to do with the original making of the film and (b) Turner Entertainement wasn't even in the business of making films when Charlton Heston showed his ability as a charioteer.

Ben Hur è insieme ai 10 Comandamenti e a Via col Vento un amico che ci fa compagnia da sempre.
Può piacere oppure no, ma ha tratti geniali e seminali. Due per tutti, la colonna sonora e la gara delle "quadrighe". La sceneggiatura, la regia, il montaggio sono accuratissimi. L'interpretazione del cast è all'altezza delle richieste ed è da sottolineare anche un linguaggio raffinato ed aulico che non stona affatto con la magnifica ricostruzione storica. Ottimo il film, mediocre/sufficiente il libro. Il remaque del 2016 ha abbondantemente dimostrato la validità di questo film. Lasciamolo così com'è e godiamocelo ancora per molti anni. Fa parte a buon diritto della storia del cinema.

If you look carefully at about 33 seconds in you can notice a woman at lower centre screen in a contemporary short sleeved pinkish dress who must have somehow gotten into the crowd of extras and the shot.

One glaring Hollywood gaff...the Romans legions, never had wide blade spears like they had in this movie, as well as the small shields. Other than that...no other serious 'actual' gaffs.
