Can the cheaper Pimax 5K Super REALLY be a contender for flight simulation in the current market? In this video, we take a DETAILED look and I give you my verdict...
Just ordered the Pimax 5K+ and I am completely new to VR. Went through the internet, studying every single VR headset out there, the 200 degree FOV on this one is just too important for me. Hope I made the right choice, guess we'll see. Thanks for the video man.
Couldn't put Alyx down when it came out, so it would be good to see you play it. Sometimes my oled display on the quest was too black and made it scarier.
Getting more beer for viewing. What you like Steve, brown or blond beer? Belgian is beer country number one. If we don't make it we own it. Lets get to VR gear and have fun :-)
@@VRFlightSimGuy two crates of each. Roger that. Please eat a good portion of Belgian Fries (french fries don't exists) before beer time and no more flying afterwards till the next day. Safety first. Or you need roll cages too Haha.
Hi Steve, you're getting that odd draw effect whereby items appear as you move your head around - I had this with my Artisan. I can't remember what I did to stop it though?
@@solarisaint1 I've not used an Index so cannot help you there, BUT, I bought my Artisan 2nd hand (plus I already have base stations and controllers from my Vive) so it was quite a bit cheaper than the list price - if I was in the market now for a new headset then it would be the Index - no argument. What Steve said about the experience being a little like a Rift-S with a larger FOV sounds right to me.
Ok Steve, I gotta say it again ..... your doing yourself a serious, serious, serious disservice by not using the Pimax VR Experience software. Just the color profiles alone will make a night and day difference in the image on the Pimax devices. There's also a command line you can use for Alyx to eliminate the culling without using Parallel Projection. If you finally install Pimax VR Experience you can insert this console CMD in the profile settings for Half Life Alyx.... -console -vconsole +sc_no_cull 1 +vr_multiview_instancing 0 +vr_shadow_map_culling 0 +vr_enable_volume_fog 0
I tried Pimax experience, but ran into bug after bug after bug after bug. I personally found that I could do all of these things (except maybe detailed color profiles) with just Pitool and steam command line arguments.
Hi mate, does the higher 180 hz on the 5k super make a difference compared to the lower 120 hz of the 5k plus? I have a chance to buy a 5k plus.. I play flight sims, I don’t know what to do, ..thanks
@@paulovenz8037 The refresh rate doesn't make a massive difference unless you are playing something very fast paced such as beat saber or shooters. The biggest difference is with the higher refresh rates it lower the fov down. So 120hz on the 5k super is nearly full fov where the 5k plus is halved at 120hz
Er, do you sniff ALL your headsets…? 🤔 shame about the headset in some ways. I was hoping for a nice compromise between the g2 and the 8k - the g2 fov makes me sad - but alas it wasn’t to be. 😞
FPS and refresh rate are not the same thing. You can have 60hz monitors at 120 fps game settings. You just won't see 120 fps as the monitor can only refresh 60 times a second. Even if settings are pumping out 120 fps pc and gpu. Half the frames are lost because of the refresh rate. To say you will never see 180 fps in game with this headset is disingenuous. The googles, if rating is right will handle 180hz no prob. It's the hardware feeding the googles that is lagging in performance trying to push all that data to the googles at this time. Those googles will be fine when the hardware catches up to what they can handle.
Interesting point. Pimax “5K” Super also includes a new Modular Audio Strap, Pimax comfort kit facial padding, nose guard to prevent light leakage, and a ruggedized exterior housing
@@VRFlightSimGuy The 5k plus I had already came with the blue ruggedized exterior with the pimax comfort kit,The 5k super doesn't do anything the resolution is the same as 5k+,you can get 36 more hz outta the super, but when are we in reality gonna be running flight and racing sims at 180hz.Xplane has been out forever and you can't sniff 120hz let alone 180.With msfs good luck if we ever get to 90 native.
@@William_99640 The 5K+ also has older and worse-looking displays, requires external power, and isn't in production any more. Also, only a few were made with the new vision housing before it was discontinued.
@@VRFlightSimGuy That's really strange. If you don't mind, I'll retype it here: If it's not too much of a bother, would you be able to test the 5KS and 8K+ with 1.25 Pitool render quality and 100% SteamVR supersampling and let me know which is best? I'll be using whichever one I get with 1.25 Pitool SS :)
NEWS: As far as I know, Pimax is having a big deal on 5K Super from July 20th to 30th, more details soon...
It's July 20th - what's the big deal?
my vr experience is limited, but saying its like a rift s with a 170 degree FOV sounds like a winner to me :)

Managed to get my hands on a Pimax 32K X!! Waiting for my second frame as we speak...
🤣🤣🤣
Hilarious ! LOL

Thanks so much that one comment alone of yours "I wouldn't recomend over a G2" has helped me to buy a G2 instead
Love your videos dude.
Let's continue.
Watching.
..............
Bless you man thankyou!
I still can’t wait to see the performance you get when the update comes out for Microsoft flight simulator!
Excellent review again my friend :-)
Thank you! Cheers!
Enable Parallel projection in Pitools and it will fix the culling problem

so which vr headset is first best for flight simulator? best visual quality and performance?
Sold my 8k plis was just not getting the clarity do i bid on a 5k super
Hold on a moment....
Your head pillow is upside down!
LOL finally someone noticed!! :D

With the new msfs performance update, are you able to improve the max resolution and get decent performances?

Wish Pimax HMDs worked for me.. I'm just out of the sweet spot and even with Software adjustment it just doesn't get my eyes where it needs to be.

Hey John yes you need to make sure parallel reprojection is enabled in the pi tool.
Would you say the Artisan is a better exp than the index ?

Will Samsung Odyssey Plus controllers work with this?
I'm not sure
I have a pimax 5k plus and pimax 5k super and I will say the SDE is better than the Rift s by a bit but worse than the valve index

Why not just getting a 5k plus they run 144hz same resolutions, the 5k super seems kinda pointless to me.

Btw pimax 5k plus is discontinued. And in Pimax's eyes the 5k super is the replacement/successor to the 5k plus
