    Alphy is the one side protagonist with the MOST character development throughout the entire game, from the arrogant leader in ARR, his journey of self reflection in HW, his rebellion in the face of tyranny at Eulmore in ShB, and now defying his father, who represents what he could've become without the WoL's guidance. His whole story arc could thematically end with him following his grandfather's footsteps in self-sacrifice as a catalyst for Fourchenault to change, just as likely as he could also retire to reform Old Sharlayan himself.

      Something struck me in ShB where Feo Ul said "you humans who plant seeds which you will never see grow so that those after you may enjoy their fruits" (or something along those lines) was VERY ominous. Initially thinking that either Yshtola or Alphinaud may die in Endwalker because they have so much left to accomplish and see through. And that ending of the trailer really messed with me cause it looks certain Alphi is going to self sacrifice.

      I don't think there was a chance of Alphi becoming like his father. His father shared the Forum's stance of nonintervention while all the way from ARR Alphi has been a meddler (with both good and bad results).

      I think there is a decent chance he sacrifices himself like his grandfather cause although I could be entirely wrong about this being what he meant, yoshi p did mention that going through coils would make the story for endwalker more clear, and coils is not just about bahamuts story but about louisioux sacrificing himself by becoming a primal and staying behind and locking himself up with bahamut to prevent him from being unleashed again. Alphi could very well die or be trapped for an eternity like his grandfather to prevent zodiarks return, therefore ending the chapter between Zodiark and Hydaelyn. But this is all speculation of course.

    @AngMortem 3 года назад +60

    "And so you venture forth unto the unknown, a fate beyond the horizon that cannot be divined. A future undefined and in flux"
    I think Emet's first dialogue there was something he said to Azem when they were either leaving the convocation to continue travelling the world in the Final Days or when Azem left to travel at first.
    "That which lives is destined to die, love leads to loss, every beginning has an end. Treasure every moment, every step of your descent and there in the depths where souls and stars rest, find your truth." This line really makes it seem like it's when Azem is leaving the convocation after not agreeing with the Zodiark plan though.
    I assume in this expansion we'll get some flashbacks to Amaurot before the Final Days where we'll get to sympathize more with the Amaurotians and see our past relationships with Emet, Elidibus and Hy outside of the Tales from the Shadows stories . We've seen Venat in the trailer reliving the destruction of Amaurot after all.

    • @DuoSanguis
      @DuoSanguis 3 года назад +1

      I got the impression that Azem's seat in the Convocation was symbolic since they were never there and always out-and-about helping the "lesser" people of the Star all around the globe. They never really left but it didn't really matter. Azem seemed to be the empathetic and humble Amaurotine. They all meant well but "we" were the one that connected with the 'mortals'. "We" were the one with the unique perspective of seeing how the non-deific-creation-magic-capable beings lived. I think Azem was the only one capable of seeing the middle ground between the Convocation's wish to preserve the greatness of Amaurot's civilization and the Venat faction of survival through sundering, and how the sundered could (maybe) carry on the legacy of the Ancient Ones.

    Some theories spotted throughout the internet:
    02:12 - The blue space surrounding the jagged crystal bridges seems to suggest this dungeon takes place within the aetherial sea; if we go by the theories established by scholars according to the Encyclopedia Eorzea Vol I (Pg. 011), which describes Hydaelyn (The Planet) as being centered within a giant Mothercrystal (Akin to our Earth's core.), then the crystal bridges could possible be tethers leading to and from said Mothercrystal. Also is of interesting to note is how many of the bridges have jagged, spiky edges or tendrils; something that is reminiscent of patch 3.2's (The Gears of Change) promotional artwork that depicts Minfilia entangled by Hydaelyn's chained and entangled by Hydaelyn's crystal tendrils.
    11:00 - Difficult to judge, as we only see the white crown-parts of the flower, but it is possible said flower depicted is an asphodel, which if we follow with the ancient Greece mythology-themes of the Ascians, is also being associated with the ancient Greece's Underworld-mythos, being also a section where souls are sent to after death. It is essentially the equivalent to spider-lilies in Japanese mythology and symbolism regarding death association. Depictions of Asphodel have generally been described in neutral or somewhat positive light; not really an underworld place for damnation akin to hellish spaces like Tartarus, but also not as paradise-like akin to Elysium. Neutrality of neither good nor evil essentially resides in this underworld space. Might be involve more into FFXIV's themes surrounding balance, to which it begs to question what is Venat's view on it.
    12:45 - Tataru's voice. Maybe?
    13:35 - Said imperial cousin involved in the civil war after Varis's demise is mentioned at the very end of 5.1 as "Lord Nerva", indeed of the IIIth Legion as Nerva's name is mentioned by a soldier of said Legion. I think Nerva is also the child of Titus (Varis's uncle who defeated him after Solus's demise back in 2.x.). Nerva might also possible be involved in Fan'daniel financing them as part of Fan'daniel continuing the imperial civil war with the fortune he amassed as part of him corpse-walking as Asahi of House Brutus that he mentions in 5.3.
    Lots of fun watching your speculation, Jesse. Looking forward to your speculations once Endwalker hits up!

      Emet has always been written to be an extremely high level plotter. Plans within plans within plans. Making empires, directing all the rejoinings, leading the Ascians, etc. He made the 'stars' we gave Elidibus, and made the 'star that shouldn't exist' to raise Azem up to his station. Yeah, he likely knew who we were, which was part of the reason he did what he did in ShB. Hythlodaeus once mentioned 'no one could mistake the color of such a soul' when he talks about Ardbert being next to us. This was hinted at earlier actually, when Emet summons Y'shtola from the lifestream. "What color was her soul again? Ahh yes."
      He also implanted the power to return from the void inside Azems crystal, as we saw in Elidibus' fight.
      It wouldn't surprise me, AT ALL, if the narration we get for this expansion is actually a message left inside the crystal from him to us.

      That's what I thought about Fandaniel as well, except something tells me that's not exactly right. From the trailer I can only assume we see a scene of Fandaniel being serious on the moon. And since the ancients don't have red masks, they're probably the ones who summoned Hydaelyn. I'm thinking Fandaniel is trying to enact the Final Days to force us to seek Zodiark's help and set him free. Eventually he manages to get us (and Hydaelyn) to the imprisoned Zodiark for a dialogue, which is what we see in the trailer.

    Having played Final Fantasy IX I'm so intrigued as too the depth of the WoL in the seat. Spoilers ahead for FFIX; Perhaps it's just meant to be a visual reference, that entire place looks very much like Garlands place in FFIX (the name escapes me atm) but perhaps it could be more. Zidane is the angel of death in FFIX and perhaps this scene could be Zenos trying to further improve you for the final battle. We could suffer lots of character deaths in this expansion given it's finality but even if we didn't untold destruction to much of the world is literally seen, and as a hero watching countless citizens be slaughtered in an apocalypse would probably weigh heavily on the mind, and perhaps this is him having captured you or something of the sort and preying on all he's taken from you to turn you into a feral beast of a warrior, to breed so much hatred and anger in you that you become something that could give him a final moment far more transcendent his last. Turning you into an angel of death much like Zidane was made to be one to round it back towards FFIX.

    11:34 in the german version she says: "Sie soll dein Wegweiser sein und dir Einblick in die Herzen anderer gewähren" which translates to "It should be your guide and give you insight into the hearts of others." So no direct mention of the flower, but because german is german one can infer that she means the flower, since she uses "Sie" which is the female 3rd person pronoun and "flower" (or bloom for that matter) use the female article, so in the english version she probably says bloom.
    12:06 I also don't really see that we have to defeat hydalyn.

    I'm almost certain that that speech from Emet-Selch--and indeed, all of his narrations in Endwalker--are him dictating his thoughts to a memory-crystal. (Possibly, but not likely, Azem's crystal.) He's definitely speaking TO Azem though. It just happens that what he said then also speaks to us, now.

    • @ZekeRaiden
      @ZekeRaiden 3 года назад

      @Jay Bee ...he's *dead.* If you can think of a good reason why a dead man should start chatting us up, I'm all ears. Otherwise it's some recording or, failing that, a written document we come across, like how Count Fortemps narrated Heavensward via his memoir of the same name.
      Besides, we already know the Ancients had holographic technology, we watched and listened to records left behind by Venat and her rebels in Anamnesis Anyder. So, there's your evidence: Emet-Selch, a dead NPC, gives long speeches that refer very clearly to events from the original Final Days, and we know the Ancients had voiced holograms and other recording devices. I assumed it was a crystal of some sort since, well, crystals are kind of the bread and butter of the setting, but perhaps it's some other kind of record.

    I think the Emet Selch dialog at the beginning is going to be the narration for the last area. As I'm thinking it may be the inside of the moon or something to that affect ala FF4. The last couple sentences being the driving force in this theory. "Descent" and "depths of where souls and stars rest", maybe the aetherial sea?
    Regardless I really like his narration, like he's trying to comfort us for what comes ahead.
    Also, I think that is Fandaniel for that first bit, and in the JP trailer it sounds like it's ONLY Fandaniel. However in the ENG trailer I think that second voice is Alphis dad. I think all the Sharlayans may already know they are sundered ancients, and much like the ascians are also striving for the rejoinings, which is why they have the bomb shelter and have the non intervention thing.

    This is anything but lore discussion based on cinematics, but idk why nobody is raising this point - SE made a whole thing about the fact that you get ONE new character in the trust system, which is estinien. That implies that adding people to it is a big deal to them, since the trust system is a big deal - the thing is, the trust system works for the whole expansion, and afaik, the leveling process is still tied to shb levels, so there is continuity, which will be there from the first till the last dungeon of the expansion.
    Because of that, if the character is a part of this system, they're very unlikely to die, ending of EW or not, because there is a game system that assumes people are alive in order for it to work, post 6.0. In the case of tanks, for instance, its specially true because thancred is THE only tank the game has, unless you're forced to have graha tank, and that's literally not what he is ever pictured as during the story, he's only a filler role gap for balancing purposes, but SE wouldn't force a class on this character for 2/3 of the roles using trusts.
    It sounds completely against what SE wants for this game, for instance, to have a random player choose (as an example) alisae, yshtola, thancred as the characters they'll level up, to then at 6.1/3/4/5, say that this player, in order to continue to use the Trust feature as they were, needs to go back and level a secondary character that they had no intention of doing so, because yshtola/alisae/thancred dies at the end of 6.1/3/4/5, and thus can only be played up till X dungeon, regardless of her level.
    Besides, marketing wise, it would make even MORE sense for SE to market it like "estinien is arriving and plenty more characters to come!"... But that's not what they did. If anything, the fact that they would announce it beforehand would make it even more plausible for people to die, rather then fueling may argument on how nobody will.
    Sidenote, but economically speaking, i also think the characters at this point just make way too much money for them. Most people don't remember people like Ysayle anymore (some do because they're watching people stream the MSQ, but most don't), and it makes zero sense for them to put them down when you can make so much goddamn money off of them still. Unlike other main line FF games, 14 is an ongoing one. It's fine if Auron, Tidus or Aerith die, because the story is self contained, with no continuous follow up. Spin offs, yes, Sequels, maybe, but they're all finished products the moment they leave the shelf - and due to its mmo nature, 14 never truly is

      I believe the 'sun' of the WoD was similar to those orbs, but the aesthetic is very different. WoD is all dark crystals and imposing architecture, that place was more like the Soul Cairn from Skyrim: a blasted, lifeless place with strange magic and corpses. In the background you could see centipede-like bones, like the ones we see in all the places Xenos is building.
      My guess is that it's wherever the nightmares from Aumorot came from, cause I don't think voidsent would want anything like what's going on. And these creatures are less demonic, and more eldritch, with glowing eyes and mouths for days.

    17:20 Flashbacks, and us maybe having to relive those scenes: Could be that that ties into the WoL on the throne/FF9 shot and our memories have been scattered by some attack or entity and we're reliving them in the echo to put ourselves back together? I have a feeling that might also tie into G'raha's line about "I won't lose them, not a one!" He could be referring to his precious memories or something, like he's being subjected to the same attack. Memories and carrying them forward is kind of his theme.

    The amount of FFT and - specifically - FFXII lore in the latest parts of the game is insane. While Endwalker is most definitely following an overarching plot structure similar to FFIV, the grander world-lore is following anything and everything Ivalice.
    The unit you're thinking of at around 13:45 is - I'm pretty sure - the IVth, led by Noah son of Basch fon Ronsenberg; the former commander of the IVth, who recruited an eclectic band of crazies. Noah has the same desires of his father, that of remaking Dalmasca - now a Garlean city-state. He failed at claiming the Garlean throne in order to do so, so he and his father's unit decided to basically do their own thing. It's what the whole Bozja conflict is about at the end of Shadowbringers.
    The biggest movers and shakers of the Eorzean world are all focused on Dalmasca right now, before everything goes to literal Hell. The plot of Endwalkers will tear it away from there for the time being, but the introduction of the Occuria with Venat is a _major_ plot development regarding where its focus will shift to next: Ivalice in general.
    That's my best guess, anyway. I'm not even going to try to guess what most of Endwalker is about, but it seems more that that giant ship/plank in the title is headed towards the planet itself, not the moon as previously thought, due to how Emet-Selch's dialogue about "the end of the star" posterizes the planet under the title sequence and not the moon. Is something arriving? Or is it really just the moon? There's literally no way to tell, as in FFIV you fly a freakin' _whale_ up there.

    I think that sequence where you see them walk along the crystal paths inside Hydaelyn is going to be something like a scripted trial with all the scions. I'm pretty sure Yoshi-P mentioned an instance crowded with NPC allies; I'm betting it's going to be this one. The guy in the FFXII Judge armor gives me hopes that we're going to see more Ivalice/Bozja related stuff in Endwalker, because the plotline of the IVth legion ended with a cliff hanger. Who knows, maybe that guy in the trailer even is Noah van Gabranth. in the monologue part with Fandaniel he drops the name "Zodiark" in the japanese voice right when they show him.

  • @foomp

    3:04 Given I think they said this is also supposed to conclude the job quests, I wonder if that's a quick glimpse at WARs. Hearing Emet Selch's voice so much makes me very happy. With the people of Amaurot being given visual identities now, instead of simply masked and hooded appearances, I'm sure we'll see more of Emet.
    A few things. The Lady of the Light was, I'm certain, saying the moon will be your guide. Fandaniel's line ends before "IT WILL BE OURS AGAIN!", as that is someone else's voice. Regarding the crystal dungeon thing, it looks very much like Avatar fights in FFXI, so you're probably right but it's probably linked to primals in some way.
    I do have a feeling that Zenos is going to end up doing something self-sacrificial for our characters. His obsession with keeping us alive and in pristine condition to fight him will likely cause some sort of handicap or emotional plot element. Perhaps that's how we end up unconscious in front of him. Things go to total shit and Zenos becomes a temporary anti-hero that we end up fighting and killing as his final wish (perhaps after he has been injured somehow).

    The speech from Alphi at the end will probably be to his dad and mom.
