One of the most compelling aspects of Tommy Oliver as a character is him struggling with his past demons. I honestly think if the 2017 movie did adapt Green With Evil as the basis for a sequel it would have made more money than the first film. I don't really see a problem with the 2017 film. Sure, it had its flaws but it was still entertaining and it managed to flesh the characters out more. It wasn't a totally outright bad film.

It's always the green ranger for me. They seriously need to make a green with evil storyline in a major movie. And also Lord Drakkon. 2017 movie had potential and they didn't need to add the green ranger in the first movie but I feel they changed too much about the characters personalities and that's why it didn't go over well.

That was not Tommy Oliver, that was Jason David Frank. We're talking about the character Tommy Oliver here, not JDF. Chances are if Tommy Oliver is going to appear in the next Power Rangers movie, it won't be Jason David Frank that plays him, that role will have to be given to a younger actor handling that role.
He most certainly is. He devastated multiple teams of Rangers. Plus, he caused a large number of them to die. There really hasn't been another villain who has challenged every team in history. The only other villain who has killed a lot of other Rangers is Psycho Green.
Good point Manas. Drakkon is basically what would happen if Evil Tommy and Zedd were fused together. Sure, Zedd had his moments at being dark but Drakkon is basically on the level of a mass-murdering dictator.
I actually really enjoyed the 2017 film... It had its flaws but I like how all 5 of the rangers were real people with real-life issues that they all had to overcome in order to be the heroes that no one, including themselves, thought they could be. To me, it was a combination of the breakfast club and PR lore and I thought it really worked. The sequel to that movie would have been so dope 🤦♂️Hopefully we get some form of continuation in the future.

Hasbro has been thinking of a Transformers/Power Rangers crossover movie since they bought the rights to Power Rangers. How would you feel about that? I personally (as a lifelong fan to both franchises) would love it. Imagine seeing the M.M.P.R. Megazord versus Volcanus (in Transformers Combiner Wars, the Dinobots could combine into Volcanus) or the Turbo Megazord vs Menasor (the Decepticon combiner force known as The Stunticons, combined to form Menasor), the Train Megazord could fight the T.F. combiner that was all trains... The list is endless. Only difficult aspect would be the ground combat. Only Transformers remotely humansized are the Minicons or Hatchlings. Sure you can use the Minicons that get enslaved by the Decepticon forces as the catalyst to where the Rangers fight. But they (the Rangers) I don't think could destroy any Minicons. Not in that form. But if you made them WILLINGLY fight for the Decepticons, then yes. Sorry to have driven you mad with my thoughts. But would you think that idea could work?

But these would be based off the cassettes that Soundwave (introduced first in Revenge of the Fallen) would eject when he was the cassette player back in the 80's originally. The kitchen appliance drones were just on a seek and deliver of the shard from the AllSpark. But in the 80's out of that group Wheelie was humansized yes. The 2017 film was great and still get goosebumps when the song comes on. The Megazord wasn't great but I'd love to see the Sequel of it as it was made serious and having it be cheesey won't make big money at all.
The ONLY Green Ranger there is GOING to be is the Green Ranger they introduce in the sequel to the 2017 Power Rangers movie remake which they are GOING to make whether they want to or not!
I agree. Rebooting the franchise all over again is going to divide fans. The 2017 film wasn't perfect but that's with anything. Nothing is 100% perfect. If a sequel had been made it could have possibly exceeded the original in the amount of money made off of it. Making a Power Rangers movie that is overly cheesy is not going to bring in a lot of viewers in my opinion also. The show has not been in the best shape since the Neo Saban era started.

Well to me, 2017 was a perfect set up because they set up Tommy to be in the sequel, and that works out since he wasn't there in the original source (for a while at least)
So JDF was in the reboot just not as his character from the show and Lord Drakkon did break the spell but he decided to remain evil, that's what makes him such a terrifying villain. Also I liked the movie, it was awesome to learn about the rangers as people and that they had to earn their powers. It was supposed to give a more mature aspect to the rangers. But to each their own.

What people need to realize is that Tommy didn’t come in until the second season, So when they were going to put him in the second movie I agreed with that that made sense they should’ve just continued it the only thing that I didn’t like about the last Power Ranger movie was the suit other than that the story was great it was the way I always imagined it to be for the word on to be part of the original Power Ranger group and all of it
Technically Tommy appeared in Season 1 about 10 episodes or so into it when Rita revealed she had the Dragon Coin the whole time due to her rivalry with Zordon thousands of years prior to the 1st episode and used it as a trump card and selected the one who rivaled Jason's own ability as Jason was the strongest among the rangers and could fight Goldar in a one on one fight. When she realized this, thats when she made Tommy the new green ranger. In fact, out of all of Rita's and Lord Zedd's plots against the Rangers in every season or movie they were in, Rita's creation of the green ranger was the greatest but as we all know, Lord Zedd continued her work of destroying his power and did so more efficiently as the green ranger was the strongest ranger when fully powered due to his dragon shield (Aka the gold vest) being able to act as a barrier when the dragon dagger was used in unison with it. Unfortnately the green ranger's successor, the white ranger, didnt share this ability but supposedly, according to Zordon....the white ranger was incorruptible unlike the green ranger which made it impossible for Zedd to use the same trick on Tommy that Rita did in Season 1 if he wanted to try that route again.
Honestly I'm tired of Tommy oversaturation. There are other rangers just as important. We've had rangers die for the cause (Kendrix, Magna Defender), rangers with more compelling backstories (Eric, Cam) teams that were really underdeveloped and could use better writing (Megaforce, Alien/Aquitae, Ninja Steel), teams we haven't seen in a while (Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder). I don't want just the Tommy Oilver show featuring the Power Rangers, aka season two of MMPR.

Both Mighty Morphin #1 (that came out last week) and Power Rangers #1 (coming out next week) have confirmed the New Green Ranger isn't Drakkon. Drakkon was still in his prison when NGR came back in MM#1, and he's leaving with the Omega Rangers in PR#1.

I'm sure the movie from Entwistle will have some ideas from the comics. They talk about OG rangers and time travel. Maybe a Ranger Sentry from the future travels to MMPR era to assassinate Tommy Oliver and end up becoming allies as the threat from the future has followed the Sentry. Borrowing elements from Terminator of course.
I feel like that needs to be a plot point that’s disputed between the Red and Green Ranger throughout the film and maybe not quite resolved til a sequel film. Brushing Jason off as leader after one film is kind of wack. And Tommy doesn’t really lead the team anyways until he becomes the white ranger. Though if the do a sequel and not a reboot I know Tommy will be a she cause it’s 2020. And Hollywood loves gender swapping every male character. But, if we make female characters male people riot. Just imagine if they made an all male Mean Girls or an all male Sailor Moon film series, and I’m not talking about the Sailor Stars or whatever. People would light Hollywood on fire. Then again I wouldn’t want an all male remake of any film cause having your own original characters is a bigger win. And we sure know Hollywood could use some fresh ideas... the whole diversity push is wasted on remakes. It’s makes for a good call for writers and directors to make new ideas and new characters.

Adding drugs and violence won't instantly make things better. There's plenty of other ways to take the franchise into a more mature direction in terms of story and development.
I think a dark story film of power rangers would be the best way, so the old fans that are now adult can finally see something different, like the dark justice league movie seeing death of hereos is a surprising moment for everyone

The last Power Rangers movie was setting up bringing the Tommy Oliver character into the movie. It would've been in the upcoming sequel.
There should be a movie where he's the main villian before battling his demons in a sequel.
So..."Green with Evil," "Return of the Green Ranger," and "Fighting Spirit."
The 2017 film was great and still get goosebumps when the song comes on. The Megazord wasn't great but I'd love to see the Sequel of it as it was made serious and having it be cheesey won't make big money at all.

I agree. Rebooting the franchise all over again is going to divide fans. The 2017 film wasn't perfect but that's with anything. Nothing is 100% perfect. If a sequel had been made it could have possibly exceeded the original in the amount of money made off of it. Making a Power Rangers movie that is overly cheesy is not going to bring in a lot of viewers in my opinion also. The show has not been in the best shape since the Neo Saban era started.

Well to me, 2017 was a perfect set up because they set up Tommy to be in the sequel, and that works out since he wasn't there in the original source (for a while at least)
I forgot that Tommy liked playing the Dakkon Blackblade deck in Magic: the Gathering.
So JDF was in the reboot just not as his character from the show and Lord Drakkon did break the spell but he decided to remain evil, that's what makes him such a terrifying villain. Also I liked the movie, it was awesome to learn about the rangers as people and that they had to earn their powers. It was supposed to give a more mature aspect to the rangers. But to each their own.

Drakkon choose to be evil. He wasn't under Rita's spell, the spell broke just as in the main timeline.
I gotta tell ya, the boom ranger comics are top notch story telling. Seriously good stuff.
What people need to realize is that Tommy didn’t come in until the second season, So when they were going to put him in the second movie I agreed with that that made sense they should’ve just continued it the only thing that I didn’t like about the last Power Ranger movie was the suit other than that the story was great it was the way I always imagined it to be for the word on to be part of the original Power Ranger group and all of it
Technically Tommy appeared in Season 1 about 10 episodes or so into it when Rita revealed she had the Dragon Coin the whole time due to her rivalry with Zordon thousands of years prior to the 1st episode and used it as a trump card and selected the one who rivaled Jason's own ability as Jason was the strongest among the rangers and could fight Goldar in a one on one fight. When she realized this, thats when she made Tommy the new green ranger. In fact, out of all of Rita's and Lord Zedd's plots against the Rangers in every season or movie they were in, Rita's creation of the green ranger was the greatest but as we all know, Lord Zedd continued her work of destroying his power and did so more efficiently as the green ranger was the strongest ranger when fully powered due to his dragon shield (Aka the gold vest) being able to act as a barrier when the dragon dagger was used in unison with it. Unfortnately the green ranger's successor, the white ranger, didnt share this ability but supposedly, according to Zordon....the white ranger was incorruptible unlike the green ranger which made it impossible for Zedd to use the same trick on Tommy that Rita did in Season 1 if he wanted to try that route again.

Honestly I'm tired of Tommy oversaturation. There are other rangers just as important. We've had rangers die for the cause (Kendrix, Magna Defender), rangers with more compelling backstories (Eric, Cam) teams that were really underdeveloped and could use better writing (Megaforce, Alien/Aquitae, Ninja Steel), teams we haven't seen in a while (Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder). I don't want just the Tommy Oilver show featuring the Power Rangers, aka season two of MMPR.

Jason David Frank is the only true Tommy Oliver. Hiring another actor will not have the same impact. Part of the Tommy's popularity is Jason. Without Jason, it ain't Tommy.

Both Mighty Morphin #1 (that came out last week) and Power Rangers #1 (coming out next week) have confirmed the New Green Ranger isn't Drakkon. Drakkon was still in his prison when NGR came back in MM#1, and he's leaving with the Omega Rangers in PR#1.

I'm sure the movie from Entwistle will have some ideas from the comics. They talk about OG rangers and time travel. Maybe a Ranger Sentry from the future travels to MMPR era to assassinate Tommy Oliver and end up becoming allies as the threat from the future has followed the Sentry.

I feel like that needs to be a plot point that’s disputed between the Red and Green Ranger throughout the film and maybe not quite resolved til a sequel film. Brushing Jason off as leader after one film is kind of wack. And Tommy doesn’t really lead the team anyways until he becomes the white ranger. Though if the do a sequel and not a reboot I know Tommy will be a she cause it’s 2020. And Hollywood loves gender swapping every male character. But, if we make female characters male people riot. Just imagine if they made an all male Mean Girls or an all male Sailor Moon film series, and I’m not talking about the Sailor Stars or whatever. People would light Hollywood on fire. Then again I wouldn’t want an all male remake of any film cause having your own original characters is a bigger win. And we sure know Hollywood could use some fresh ideas... the whole diversity push is wasted on remakes. It’s makes for a good call for writers and directors to make new ideas and new characters.

No, Power Rangers doesn't need to be the equivalent of a John Wick movie for people to take it seriously.
@Romanogers4ever I never said the show had to stick to the same formula we're getting now. But that RUclips video is not the direction Power Rangers needs to take. Adding drugs and violence won't instantly make things better. There's plenty of other ways to take the franchise into a more mature direction in terms of story and development.
I think a dark story film of power rangers would be the best way, so the old fans that are now adult can finally see something different, like the dark justice league movie seeing death of hereos is a surprising moment for everyone
