- Stakes. Mallets. Crucifixes. These form part of a vampire-killing kit located in the Royal Armouries in Leeds, England. It’s one of the only two vampire-killing kits in museums around the world! But since Dracula and his kin aren't actually real (we hope), when exactly was this kit assembled and what goes into one? What goes into assembling what looks like a 19th century vampire killing kit? And what does it tell us about its history? Jonathan Ferguson, the Keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the museum, takes us through it.

Poor Jonathan Ferguson! He obviously hasn't watched enough vampire movies. The "sacred earth" is to be sprinkled over the vampire's own bed of native soil to drive it out. Depending on the lore (you pick, there are many), vampires either are just normal people strength, extremely weak or totally non-functional during the day, and without rest cannot heal. Side note: "sacred earth is just dirt from a consecrated graveyard.
Yes, “hallowed ground” not “sacred earth”… As in, from a churchyard.
I believe the other kit is at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown Pennsylvania
My thoughts exactly!
Supposedly there was one sold on pawnstars a couple years back.
Love the video and the initial idea of it.
Presentation and the final Work are A+! ^^
Regardless whether you believe in vampires or not, I find this extremely fascinating, but it obvious that the guy in the video doesn't seem to care very much.
I believe the accepted human phrase of desire is "Please take my money!"
I saw this kit in Ripley's museum😁
Ripley's have upwards of 40 of them, of varying quality.
Thank you Atlas Obscura and especially thank you Jonathan for this fascinating video!
This was very informative! I'm putting together a vampire hunting kit, just for fun, and was able to see what I should put in it. Thanks for sharing! ~Janet in Canada
Freaking Adam Savage ..
He would do something like this
I had to laugh when I first saw this, however it really is interesting. Thank you.
As long as we made you laugh, we consider it a success ;) You're welcome!

As a member of the Vampyre Anti-Defamation League, I find this offensive. %^)

Where is Rick from pawn stars kit
I'm in the antiques business and see these from time to time. They are all the same, obviously made up from parts, yet people still pay good money for them.
Absolutely right - hence the opening bit about how I started out debunking them. The first hard evidence of one existing is the movie Fright Night (1985), followed by a militaria catalogue in 1986...
@@jonathanferguson1211 Thanks for that last bit.....was it in a major auction catalogue or a dealers'?
@@gjg64 House of Swords and Militaria, c1986. ‘Catalog No.22’, Missouri. I wrote an article for Fortean Times on these back in 2012; there's a guy who claims to have made the first one in 1972 in London, and I'm inclined to believe him.
He has a bottle of dirt!
If you come after me with something like that when I'm minding my own business on my own property I'm going to bite you right on the rear end then call the cops and arrest you for trespassing.....
Cool
How can you doubt historical evidence! Vampire is real ! Who knows more are out there .
The earth is to throw at them
It seems this guy thinks this kit is bogus lol
If he only knew...
Jeez, are skeptics so desperate to sound right they’ll even deny the mere existence of pointy sticks and churches?
Ask me a fart joke you can kill a vampire 1 sleeping in it coffin that they time with a gun if you shouldn't in it's cough and white sleep
I believe that the corona viris is from Italy for the Catholic Church sins
