The crimped metal ends are called aglet and some kinds use special crimpers for the design. Weird that I learned that just a week ago on a morning radio show.

I wrap it around because it's a waxed cotton lace and I can't cut those without redoing the crimp. Only one of my boots are using waxed cotton laces though so it's not a big problem for me.

Thanks for the upload! i also can't tell much of a difference between the stock leather laces between the PNW brands,,
some have come a bit thinner than others for me,, but that's about it.. im all for leather laces..and like most leather products,
they seem to improve over time once they're a bit more trained.. i do some Obenaufs on work ones and Venetian on casuals..
. id like to color match/contrast some pairs.. i noticed Rose Anvil sells colored ones now too but they're like almost double the price of GG laces,
but he does offer a couple unique colors.. I may email request to see if they'll do orange ones

I don't prefer rap around laces. But boots without speed hooks, you can't take on/off without unlacing. So longer laces saves time.

Paracord laces can be cut to size, and the ends protected with heat-shrink tubing.

I wish The PNW makers would use a larger diameter eye at the top of the shaft. Originally, loggers would need to double back their laces in that eyelet in order to tie a loggers knot requiring an eye twice as big as the rest of the eyes (you can google this very cool way to tie). The purpose of this knot style was common in the old days, otherwise what is the purpose of having an eye over the speedhooks? It is not just harkening toward a nostalgic aesthetic, it has a real purpose. It would not cost more than a nickel to spec out a large eye (I'm talking to you Nick's, whites, JK).

IMO leather is the best. Especially if you are wearing heritage boots, it's the only way to go, again imo. I'm also not into wrapping laces around the top of the shaft. I think it looks terrible. I never understood why someone would want to do that to an expensive pair of boots. It always struck me as something kids do with their boots.
