    Its such a shame that tiny tinas wonderlands has so many summons and minions and companions, and all of them kind of suck unless using very specific strats. Not since Diablo 2 has a pure summoner been truly viable. Oh well, great vid spuddy, I love this game and I love your sense of humor and wit.

      I'm glad to hear it! Thank you!
      Summoners do so often though get the short end of the stick. Devs are too afraid to give them the respect that they deserve. But I refuse to let that stop me from trying.

      Geneforge shows off the sheer, obnoxious potential of summoning.
      Also, if you enjoy rogue-likes, Tales of Maj'Eyal's Summoner class is really good (only one I've cleared it with actually), and it's still actively getting updates.

      @@SpuddyCube Unfortunately summoners are usually among the hardest things to balance properly in games. If you have a mechanism that does damage basically independently of human input, it's far too easy to make it overpowered simply because even mediocre damage done with 100% consistency is better than what many human players could do, but making it do too little often fails to scale with what the game demands (Axton's turret in BL2 is a good example of this.) Usually games that get summoners 'right' do so through a very long process of trial and error, or they make summons a support/auxiliary function rather than the defining component of a build. It's really quite a shame, because I am extremely fond of the summoner playstyle in almost any game, but so few games actually manage to make them fall in that sweet spot between being so overpowered they may as well excuse you from actually playing the game, and so pointless that bringing them out feels like a waste of time when you could just do literally anything else.
      On a video-related tangent, absolutely agree with Treasure Planet being criminally underrated. It's one of very, very few movies that managed to reach out to my inner child, who is very well hidden by the outer curmudgeonly fogey since around age 4. Perhaps I am biased; RLS's 'Treasure Island' was one of the first books I ever read.

    The most cruel bit about this run is the fact that Graveborn has a skill that spawns free dark magic hydras on kill and you couldn't use them because you can't stop the Demilich from attacking (though I think theoretically there's a legendary armour that deactivates your pets in exchange for a stat boost? Either way, thst would have to be an NG+ run).

    I really loved the video! This game just feels like the people involved don't know what makes a TTRPG (or RPG in general) fun and what people wanted with a FPS style RPG. I seriously cannot fathom why they thought it was a good idea to level scale all enemies on a normal play through. Half the fun of getting stronger as you play any RPG is being able to go back and see how your power has grown against weaker enemies or purposely over level yourself to make a boss easier, etc. It seems like with each new iteration of Borderlands after 2 they genuinely don't know what made people fans of the series in the first place. The fact with 3 fans literally had to get on our knees and beg for boss specific drops???? Sorry for the rant. Your videos as always are amazing!

    I want to give my thoughts on something. While i understand your mindset of not everything in the game leading to a fight, i guess thats the main draw of these games for me, i can kinda follow along with whats going on wbule going through the rounds of combat, though if builds dont come together or drops get bad then yeah, this style can also be refreshing in its own way. I have a different mindset on it, but i value yours as well and see the merit in it.

    • @SpuddyCube
      @SpuddyCube  7 месяцев назад +2

      I think it mostly stems from the repetitive nature of any given gameplay loop. I absolutely understand the desire to get into the next fight, but I do long for variety. It helps to break things up a bit and makes the next combat feel more fun. That being said, the side activities do have to be enjoyable. Borderlands three had a lot of just waiting for objectives to tick.

    • @auntrivka
      @auntrivka 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@SpuddyCube Yeah, that's fair. Standing around and waiting for someone to stop talking so the objective completes only really works for a first playthrough, and even then usually it gets boring unless I'm invested

    A question - seeing that you played the game and made at least two videos on it, you clearly enjoy it enough to play it.
    But - would you recommend it?
    I don't usually ask these things, but it's on sale rn and I wonder if it's worth it, because all the DLCs are rated Overwhelmingly Negative, while most recent reviews say it falls flat in almost every aspect, besides gunplay.

    • @nickr8662
      @nickr8662 Год назад +1

      My two cents on the matter:
      If you like the characters from Boarderlands, and don’t mind the janky gunplay or the constant grinding for better gear, yes.
      But if you don’t like the characters, this probably won’t change your mind on them and the gameplay is more of the same, with a DnD coat of paint. I personally don’t recommend it

    • @ArturoPladeado
      @ArturoPladeado Год назад +2

      The DLC's are literally just 15ish minute long trial chambers that were probably leftovers from the concept of the chambers but couldn't be added into the base game in time and the base game story is half as long as other borderlands and man, even with my bias toward Tina and DnD inspired things it's hard to say, I guess buy it, play it but keep it under two hours and if you aren't feeling it then refund it. Assuming you're playing on steam at least, could possibly get it refunded from other plateforms but maybe more tedious.

      A bit late to respond (life has been _busy_), but I think it largely comes down to how much you think you can get out of it personally. The campaign feels like a fairly standard duration, and there's a fairly comfortable amount of side content, but there really isn't much of anything in terms of end game.
      Everyone's cost evaluation will look different, of course. The writing is really cheesy. The classes and builds I think are a bit less meaningfully different than something like the main games, but I think I'd recommend it as long as you're aware that it's far from a perfect game. It's not ever going to have the staying power of earlier titles, and I can't see most people putting a ton of time into it. I would describe the moment to moment gameplay as extremely similar to Borderlands three. Of the two, I think Wonderlands is a touch more refined, but with a lot less content. But if you're comfortable in terms of cost expecting one or maybe only a couple of playthroughs, then it can be a genuinely fun experience. (Also, there's no new game+. Just so you know.)

    • @yvaskhmir
      @yvaskhmir Год назад +1

      @@SpuddyCube Okay, that's a ton of information and I'm very glad I asked. Unfortunately, it's mostly not very exciting information (by which I mean I find it very helpful and sad).
      I've played BL2, The Pre-Sequel and BL3, where, tbh, I liked TPS the most, just because there was no slag and because of those tastes, the lack of NG+ sounds dreadfully. I low-key like Tiny Tina as a character, whenever she pops up. She's not as exciting for me as Mr. Torgue or Brick, but I do like her and her DLC in BL2 was absolutely great, not just in gameplay, but the mock-up D&D run by Tina was a very fun idea, so a whole game around that sounds nice, at least on paper. I'm very patient for the characters I like, so even though I heard the dialogue gets a bit rough, I think I could manage that alone. But all the things with the lower creativity in mechanics, with little to no support in terms of DLCs and little to no reason to experiment with different characters doesn't sound that fun.
      I know I should just say "oh, well, it's not for me", but I just want to be excited for it, I really do and reality is making it harder and harder.

    I really love wonderlands but my biggest complaint about it is that the world just feels so small. I love the over world gimmick it's very fitting for the type of game wonderlands is but when all the areas are separate and their own little domains it makes the world feel significantly smaller and if that's the case the story has to be longer to make up for that and introduce more locations but the story is so short it just makes the whole game feel so small
    I really wish they could've rectified that by giving us more campaigns to play through that were dmed by valentine or fretta giving us two new stories and two new worlds to play through but you don't get that. Wonderlands has so much potential to be so much more but they've just kinda let it sit there in above average mediocrity and it's kinda painful

    IDK As a DM I've found a lot of the flaws in wonderlands are errily on point with criticisms I'd levy at my own games, espcially my 5e games. Design that comes across as boring or adverserial to a general audience should still be criticized, but I do think wonderlands hits home harder with ttrpg players. It catered to a smaller audience at the expence of being a worse game for more people. I repsect the decision, even if I know it was at the cost of the series' reputation.

Let's not push this too far - brick is still a pretty overt traditional image of masculinity, even if he does wear a tutu and some sweet wings while he does it. A beer commercial that features a pink f150 is still the same commercial.
