Shane is spot on, the Taliban and Islam just view women in a different role. No different than Judaism, Catholicism, Christianity. All cultures that carry very old “religious” beliefs still to this day view women in a different role than men.

The last hold outs of this change is religion, whether it’s right or wrong. I agree with what you said, I think equality should be defined as a man or a woman’s ability to achieve their intended biological and social purpose.

Taliban views on women are not the same as Islam. Its based on their culture but expressed via Islam.
Islam has rules but how those rules are expressed is down to the culture. Islam instructs governance should be based on compassion and customs of the people as long as it doesn't legislate against a right of a Muslim or promote a sin.
What the taliban are doing is not 😂 based on Islam its their customs.
But the major scholars have all said they're not a sharia compliant state because they've conflated their culture customs they want to enforce as islamic law.... Which is forbidden.
So for example in South Asia they have very repressive culture customs to women... like 'honor killing' even 'forced marriages' both of these things are CLEARLY and unambiguously forbidden yet its rife in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Yet those who do it will try to cloak it behind Islam to give themselves moral justification. The fact Hindu Indians and others in the region also engage in that backwardness shows you it's cultural.
In North Africa there's a long history of mysticism so you'll have stores selling goods with mystical powers or doing palm reading all clearly forbidden in quran but they'll put God's name in an amulet and tell you no this isn't the same 😂
I'm telling you it's all cultural but since the quality and proliferation of ACTUAL islamic studies has deteriorated so much because very few countries are able to confidently foster islamic education outside of teaching memorisation and procedures. Thats why some of the best contemporary studies come from the US, Indonesia or UK. From guys like Dr Ali Ataie, Hasan Spiker, Timothy winter eft ect.
They'd all be in jail in Egypt or Pakistan because they encourage students to think and that only God is sovereign... which military dictatorships don't like

The people of Afghanistan don't even have a strong connection to the idea of "Afghanistan". It's a large region of various tribes divided by mountain ranges. They don't identify with each other culturally the way we assume they would.

There is a book called “The Grand Chessboard” by Zbigniew Brzezinski it was first published in 1997. In the book Brzezinski says America needs “a new Pearl Harbor” so they can project American hegemony in the Middle East and Asia. On top of that there are maps of oil pipelines they wanted to build through Afghanistan in that book. Brzezinski, for those who don’t know, was in Afghanistan when the CIA was training the Mujahideen and there are photos of Brzezinski with Bin Laden. This guy was an advisor to US Presidents from Jimmy Carter to both Bushes and even Obama. And for those who are wondering, yes, he is Mika Brzezinski’s father.
