Today we went over something special and very iconic in simulation VFX. Perfect, turbulent, particle structures can be quite difficult to achieve but hopefully by the end of this video you comprehend how it works.

Great Tutorial! I used a knock off of this for something I made for work. Make sure you capture your full screen. There were a couple spots where I couldn't see what you were doing or where you were clicking.
Sorry about that. Usually I try to get everything when I edit the videos but it must have slipped by me. Is it helpful when the screen is zoomed in? That is, if it zooms out when necessary.

Why my size Overlife doesn't work ? :(
Brother, thank you so much again. I have one question, I want to change the emitter type to layer so that the smoke/particles/streaks are birthed from a specific layer (i.e. the falling piano notes that are like guitar hero)
Will these particles behave the same if I change the emitter to layer. Right now, I can't get them to even show up. I precomposed my birthing layer, made it 3D and the emitter layer is set to the correct layer and still nothing. Any ideas?

i followed you along mate and archive similar effect but... my liquid particular (the one from first part) are too transparent... how to easy fix it?without loosing this liquid texture? Is just duplicate it a good idea or rather change the particles per sec to fix it?
Try one of these three options. Make the size of the particles larger, increase the particle count, or increase the opacity of the particles. Other that that, I wouldn't know why your simulation is too transparent.

Very nice tutorial man. Just curious how you would make this 3D and apply it to a plane with reflections and stuff?
Well particular by default is 3d so you would just have to add a camera. For the reflection you could try completely duplicating all the layers and in the world transform particular settings rotating the entire scene upside down. Then just find some ground texture, pre-compose the upside down simulation, and then set the luma matte of that to the ground plane. You could also try using the mirror effect for a quicker, less realistic result.
Hope that makes sense but it is a little complicated so it might require another tutorial. I was going to do it in this tutorial but it was already 18 minutes so I really couldn't make it any longer.
Oh gotcha, the reason I ask is because I found the scene at 0:09 interesting

Not exactly sure what you mean. Are you referring to the size of the video export?

I did this so long ago, it's hard to remember. It's always a good to consider compressing your videos with different codecs. Like PNG or Photo - JPG. The quality difference is extremely minimal.

Why do these particles fall back at the top again? Like full sized and all, they break free of the wind and submits to gravity
Can you use this with shapes or a shape created by the pen tool? if so, then how? I was thinking of putting this particle effect on the edges of my horse logo's eye.
Just go to the emitter tab on particular and change the emitter type to "layer emitter", then choose the layer or shape you want particular to emit from. :)

Pre-compose the whole shibang before you put in the background. You may have to set the pre-composed layer's blending mode to screen.

How Can i Use This Into a 3D space On Unity 3D ( I want to make Some Effects On Real Time Unity 5 )
I've never used Unity but I highly doubt it is possible. Possibly just render this out as a video and somehow have the layer auto orient towards the game character in Unity.

Hey, idk if you've got your answer but still... unity has those particle systems where you can make fire and stuff but I highly doubt that you could create something like this in unity. As for 3ds max just render your animations and put this effect when u do post production. This is just what I think and have done before. If you have worked your way around I would like to hear your suggestions too :)

Yeah, it's a 3rd party plug-in as I mentioned on the fourth paragraph of the video description. Stardust is also an amazing particle system that, in my opinion, is better than particular.
What he meant to say was you need trapcode particular from red giant.com as that is the particle plug in he used. There is a trial version

how do i add a background?
Just pre-compose everything, then drag in your background layer below the pre-composed layer. Then set the top layer blending mode to screen. That should work.
