You know, I have researched that story a LOT and tried to figure that out! I came to the conclusion that it is *very* close to that site, but I don’t think it was the site exactly. In a story I read, they mentioned that the site was slightly below the trail, I think.. and this campsite was slightly above the trail. But I think it was really really close by. The little walls must just be wind breaks people have built over time.
The old shelter was to the left of the trail as you're heading north and I mean essentially on the trail. I could be wrong about this but as I remember the first real view of Goat Lake is just north of the site. But either way you were pretty close. Thanks for the reply.
You were very wise to take your time through this section. It’s amazing!!
So amazing 💪
I have backpacked this section through the Goat Rocks many times. Old Snowy Mountain and the “Rooster Comb” or Knifes Edge is spectacular!!
Kendall Catwalk is spectacular. The area around Glacier Peak is great also. North Cascades will slow you down. Been there. Done that.
Was your campsite in the Goat Rocks at the Dana May Yelverton old shelter location? The Goat Rocks are a special place for sure!

Just hiked this two days ago. Scariest thing I have done in a long time!
