That's silly how much there're good game design ideas in this level. The fact that you can choose your path during spinball "tunnels" to rely on reflexes and orientation of the player during these "cinematic" moments is quite cool. The rockets coming backwards of the player is brillant, because one of the biggest problem of sonic was : going fast meant take damage, except if you knew perfectly the level ; with these rockets, the player can go fast and has time to react to incoming danger. Finally, the frog that stops you is really good, because you can go brainlessy fast, but that doesn't mean that you're going to take damage at the end of the highway (The more experienced players will just avoid these frogs to take risk to make a better timer).
That does look like the Omnidroid. And just like it, the only thing that can destroy it is itself. Lol. I wonder if they took some kind of influence from it?
@@LucasDanielCab5 Jun Senoue had no official involvement in frontiers (Wikipedia was incorrect), however ohtani did take advice from him during the process. The Sonic 4 music is a bad placeholder choice. It already looks too much like it. Feels like they used that engine and took away the homing attack mechanic. I haven't seen one single frame of Sonic gathering momentum down a hill. Boost pads everywhere. Its just Sonic 4 again but they built the levels to try and avoid making that obvious. If only Sega would stop hurting my poor blue boy. Hire Christian Whitehead to come embarrass the rest of you again, Sega. I wanted to love this but I think I hate it.

Sega spended 30 years just to figure out what sonic fans want from the franchise
Sega better ask the sonic mania team to come back
This looks and feels perfect. This is the 2D Sonic game I've been waiting for since forever. So much better than the old pixel art.
It looks really good, only thing I’m worried about is the speed and where’s the drop dash
It's in the game, just not in these clips. Someone recorded gameplay at Summer Games Fest showing the drop dash.
Why are you worried about the speed? Sonic was going plenty fast in this footage.
@@Kuzamer it might be something to do with the run speed cap. Like when he comes out of the spin dash he loses a lot of speed. Idk tho I’m not op. Hopefully it has that same rewarding momentum that makes 2d sonic shine :)
@@finestcustard5647 Yeah going downhill and turning into a ball in the Genesis days was super fun! Mania did this really well too, i hope they remove the speed cap! it could be just for the demo for stability reasons? idk.
Maaan this better be place holder BGM besides that the game is beautiful
It is. The music used is from Sonic 4. Tee Lopes confirmed his involvement with the games ost, so I wouldn't be worried.
@@tristandahn2284what about the boss music?
@@NickMario1 same, the ost wasnt ready when this build of the game was given to ign japan
@@tristandahn2284 and yet ai hope the new music are the same font like this. I love Sonic 4! ❤❤
I wanted to hate this because it wasn’t pure 2D and I just can’t. This is awesome and a true evolution of Sonic!
Is it me or does that last boss is kinda like the robot from The Incredibles?
That does look like the Omnidroid. And just like it, the only thing that can destroy it is itself. Lol.
I wonder if they took some kind of influence from it?
@@Kuzamer and both were fought in a jungle
I dont know who wrote this music but it definitely has moments that sound like Jun Senoue, and I'm glad his style is back in sonic games.
This is an old song from Sonic 4 that's used as a placeholder, but it is Senoue yeah
@@LucasDanielCab5 now I'm sad
@@goofyblocks Senoue was in Frontiers tho, so it's not unlikely for him to contribute to this one
@@goofyblocks it's a placeholder
@@LucasDanielCab5 Jun Senoue had no official involvement in frontiers (Wikipedia was incorrect), however ohtani did take advice from him during the process. The last time Jun Senoue wrote a song for a sonic game (not a remix) was the small handful of original music from sonic generations (such as cut scenes and the final boss) as far as I'm aware, (could be wrong, I have missed a few games, but I did do a little research)
Lindo jogo!!! Parabéns para os desenvolvedores!!!
I just really hope the music is good. I dont know if I like it currently
This looks so nice, I hace to agree it looks too zoomed so screen crunch can happen, but yeah, this is very cool! ❤️
It feels like the max walking speed is limited compared to the spindash, when he comes out of the spindash it looks like he slows down again. This was already the problem with Sonic 4 so I dont understand why they make the same mistake twice
When in the video does this happen?
The background music also brings me Sonic 4 feeling.
I'm already lowering down my hopes.
@@Kill_BinhoBackground music IS Sonic 4 music. SEGA’s weirdly been keeping the music of Games Hidden until closer to release, the Eternal Highway Level Gameplay From Frontiers where they turned off the music comes to mind.
@@ericduarte8401 Everytime he comes out of a tube and walks normally, he immediately slows down when doing so
@@lilmattere Its so bizarr that they made that choice considering it was one of the biggest criticisms about Sonic 4. Sonic Mania has perfected the formula so this just feels like a step back.
We need more sonic games like this one, I really wasn't vibing with sonic frontiers. And we could still use a sonic 3d collection with games like sonic adventures, heroes, and generation.
Not generations more like Unleashed.
@@aidanlyons25 I was simply trying to say that I would like to have all the sonic games from the 3d era.
Sonic Adventures 1&2
Sonic Heroes
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic Generations
And I guess maybe Shadow the Hedgehog.
for real, i’m still waiting on a rerelease of Unleashed
@Rodney Brown to me Generations should not be included it should be a stand-alone re-release because it has a level from some of the past games mentioned.
@@aidanlyons25 ok I get your point
The "Mania's physics have been ported fully" claim seems to be holding true-- the spindashes, rolling, and ramps don't look super slow or jarring like they do in Generations classic sonic onward
Beautiful graphics here. Makes me think of the first time I saw Sonic 1 running on a Mega Drive. It was jaw-dropping for a kid.
It takes sonic too long to gain momentum, he’s slow , idk why they keep doing this
Because they put too much traps close to the others. If Sonic needed less time to reach max speed, the game would have been way harder to play.
But I agree with you, Sonic is way slower and clunky these past few years
Also known as Episode 3...
Do you think there will be an Act 3 for each Zone once again?
They already said this
Oh. Never mind then.
@@neomachine855 What did they say? 3 acts or nay?
@@DarkPanda558 yes
Besides the fact that I’ve been waiting for about 25 years for this game to be released, I’ve happily noticed that they re-used many of the original sound effects (like checkpoints, stop&turn, cannonball etc). Respect!
You’ve been waiting 25 years?
Yo you ever heard of sonic Mania?
@@kingofthezinger9777 You just typed nonsense.
It's excellent to see classic gameplay from the Sonic franchise!
Voltando as origens, ficou muito bom, será que da pra por as músicas do clássico? Se der vai ser perfeito!!!!
