Not only females, males also have no clue about knife safety. I have been to more first aid incidents where guys were messing around with a knife or blade and managed to slice/dice themselves or others, than incidents like that involving females. In my first aid experience of treating these injuries they are usually caused by ignorance or inexperience with handling blades in general or with the specific tool, showing off, tiredness, alcohol induced clumsiness (slow reactions) or violence.

The the force is just enough to get the knife out let alone impale you. The impact from deployment is barley enough to break skin. It has to deploy fully before it can lock in place other wise it just becomes loose till you realign it.
you would literally need to pull that trigger towards you for the blade to point in your direction, if you wouldn't notice it right then and there that you use it backwards, you deserve it.
More like when you are underpowered and handle something dangerous like a firearm or a knife, mistakes can happen. You're going over what you can adequately control and.
For anyone struggling with opening their massive OTF, dont push down so hard on the slider, push forward. Also try not to squeeze the handle harder than you need to, that way your thumb doesn’t slip and jolt forward, sliding over the blade when it deploys. Not using more grip than you need on the handle helps you use more force with your thumb.
Also if the mechanism inside the blade is pushed down instead of forward and backward that can make it harder for the mechanism to engage, thus harder to open.
