Yeah the only time he’s had an English voice was way before Yakuza ever had karaoke. I don’t think that the va is terrible, just terrible as Kiryu. Darryl Kurylo at least sounds more in the same voice range as Takaya Kuroda. He did surprisingly well with some proper direction for his small role in Y7. Yong Yea sounds way, way too young.
I will say this, he does. However, not because of his performances, those are fine, he's just an overall dick online, especially in response to simple criticism. Especially since he can dish out criticism but can't take it (mario movie voice controversy) and upon receiving the simplest criticism he blocks everyone and rants about how if a celebrity hire was actually done that they would've hired Mr. Beast..... lol ok. Additionally, it's objective to say his voice simply does not fit. It isn't to say Darryl's was a perfect fit, but still much closer to Kiryu's vocal range. I have played the Gaiden and Infinite Wealth dubs, he sounds far too young especially in Infinite Wealth. He also just reads some lines completely wrong for some reason. That aside, he's not a shit voice actor, nor is he a terrible singer, just not that good either (non-autotuned version of judgement in that one cutscene is pretty bad) He just can't play Kiryu without forcing a tough guy voice, which kinda goes against Kiryu's character anyways lmao.
Someone at Sega actually listened to this and said: "Yup, sounds good!" Just when you thought keeping Denuvo in 7 year old games was the dumbest thing they could possibly do.
@@Shayanzass Idk I haven't heard all the songs, can't stand his monotone robotic plain voice for Kiryu lol. There was for sure some mixing issues in some songs in Japanese that sounded really off, and I think I heard Chitose's English VA get autotuned and ruined the Honolulu City Nights English version, but I would take those issues over just pure monotone.
