    okay i'm like two minutes in and i've already got 🎶how do you write like you're running out of time, write day and night like you're running out of time🎶 circling in my head.

    50k words in a month is already too much, but 50k words in a day... I can't even... *wow.*

  • @Amaiguri

    I did this last year in two 12 hour chunks over two days (because I cannot and never have actually done all-nighters).
    It was brutal. Most unexpected thing was how SORE my hands were😢😢😢

    • @lynndjung
      @lynndjung  Год назад +14

      The mere thought of attempting the straight 24 hour run chilled me to my core haha. Sore hands!! How much did you end up writing omg??

    • @Amaiguri
      @Amaiguri Год назад +19

      @@lynndjung I think I wrote like 25 thousand? I did 15k the first day, and 10k the next day cuz my brain was FRIED by the end, same as you. And I felt so drained, emotionally... I discovered that I do like... method acting for my writing? Where I try to FEEL the emotions involved? And OMG a whole novel worth of that was ROUGH. The only thing that vaguely saved me was draft-zero-ing: I basically ONLY wrote dialogue for some scenes with some very vague scene directions

    Congratulations on selling your short story that's amazing news! I'm sure the decision to leave your agent wasn't easy, but I'm sure you made the best decision for you and that's really important to recognize!

    ohmygosh I'd love to shirk all my responsibilities and just WRITE. This challenge seems brutal - pushing your brain (and your fingers) to the limits. I'm glad to hear that Moths seems to be going well! :) and I can totally relate to pivoting away from the initial concept into the bigger plot. My characters still always come first though hehe
    Also, congrats on selling your short story, Lynn - that's such a promising victory!

    Congrats on passing halfway in the draft AND on your short story sale!! That's so exciting! Could it be interesting to try a writing challenge with a low word count goal over a week or two? I tend to think of Terry Pratchett's "400 Words A Day" when I sit down to write-- not that I'm able to write every day, but setting a very manageable goal that plays well with my health. For your purposes, maybe combining it with an outlining schedule could make it more interesting for a video?

    Lynn!! I loved this video so much 💗💗💗 This was so calming to watch, even though I'm sure the challenge was definitely the opposite of that LOL I feel like I got to see a lot of your personality in this video and you're soo funny and so smart AND SO PRETTY!! I loved your plant word count journal omggg hehehe love that too because you're also a scientist hehehe. AND MONTY 🐱 I feel like we have a similar drafting process, at least with MOTHS I think! Discover drafting is very strange because I find that a lot of it is deleting things, almost like taking a turn and seeing where it goes, and realizing, oh that's not where I'm going hehe. There's definitely a lot of revisions that come with discovery drafting, and I think I've finally admitted to myself that...that is okay. That's just my drafting process, and I probably will never write a clean and readable first draft, but that's okay!
    I think you're so admirable for doing this challenge and watching this made me feel motivated to write. (And I see myself too in this video!! Hehehehe) Also congratulations on your first short story publication!! I'm so excited to read it ✨ the short story fiction high is real!! I sometimes forget that not everyone works a desk job so it was refreshing and also eye-opening to hear you say that staring at a screen is not something you do all the time. It's making me realize just how ridiculous that THAT is all I do. So thanks for the remainder about taking breaks for my eyeballs 😭
    OKAY I AM DONE. I loved this video a lot. Thanks for making it. And you're amazing!! I can't wait to watch all your upcoming videos🌷

      AWW Kelley this comment is so sweet, I appreciate you so much!! 🥺 Thank you!! Haha it's funny that my personality always comes out when I'm LOSING IT but I'm glad it was entertaining lol. I agree, it took me a long time to come around to the fact that I can never cough up a perfect first draft-but who can?? I love that my stories feels authentic and rich with detail and thought by the time they're ready to be read.
      Yes, please take eye strain breaks!! I admittedly got spoiled because my last job was all outdoors but man the screen time is brutal!!
      Thank you for watching this video Kelley, SENDING YOU MY LOVE. 💗

    I find this a fun experiment, but if I were to do something like this, the output would never get edited because I hate editing my fast drafts, they are just too bad. Still, I think this is great for anyone who does well with fast drafting! I consider trying this with your mindset of quality over quantity.

    • @lynndjung
      @lynndjung  Год назад +2

      Definitely agree, and I faced a lot of the same issues in regards to quality vs quantity! But it's a fun exercise and might be more fun with a lower stakes or one-off project

    The author of the video, Lindy Jung, outlines her plan for a 24-hour novel challenge in which she will attempt to write 50,000 words in two days. She acknowledges that this goal is unrealistic but plans to use the challenge as an opportunity to focus solely on writing. She will be outlining the scenes she plans to write beforehand and spending time reviewing and cleaning up her previous work. She acknowledges that quality is more important than quantity and hopes to have a good time during the challenge. She plans to write for 12 hours each day and is not concerned with hourly word counts as she does not want to burn out or become dejected. She is aware that she may not complete the entire 50,000 words but hopes to make significant progress on her book.
