This is probably the best Claypool clip on RUclips because it's back when Claypool wasn't completely immune to stage-fright. Seeing him belt out at 2:06... right before your eyes you see his vulnerability diminish and his rhythmic patters are more in the pocket and inspirational. And we of course see the goofiness that we all love about him come out. Beautiful. Thanks for this upload.
Musical comedians and I love it. These guys are more talented than a lot of the crap you hear today. Take it from a drummer of 32 years and Rush fan for 28. True musicianship!
The coordination of Claypool is incredible... to keep that rithm and speak in the same time... I have all the respect for such an incredible artist... Les is unique among other bassists... he is a style creator.
One more thing, I saw them open for Rush on two tours. Roll The Bones and Counterparts and Rush was their biggest influence BTW. Primus are phenomenal musicians!
holly shit, this takes me back to the day! To the guy below that said Ler is underrated, AMEN! I always felt like the three of them were equal in the talent department, Les is just the bizzare one.
Todd Huth was the orignal guitarist when Primus was known as Sausage in the late 80's. He also wrote a lot of the songs then, and continued to. Check the credits on the albums. Les jams with a ton of people. The original drummer was Jay Lane aka Rhino Man. He's a fantastic drummer and definitely knew what Claypool was going for. Jay Lane still jams with Claypool and you'll find his drumming on many tracks through Claypool's career.
what a fucking golden nugget!!...thanks for posting this!....this is one of the tightest performances I've seen of Jerry, and probably cause they just got done recording Seas of Cheese....
'Primus Sucks' is written on the wall in the alley Tommy The Cat walks down in the video for this song!! The band are phenominal, i saw them support Rush in 1992, what a fucking gig man!!!!! :-)
Primus still tours as of 07" and they did the same YYZ intro to John the Fisherman on the Suck on This album witch is all live and the only place that i know of you can hear Jellikit witch is an awesome song and besides the "hidden track" on Antipop you can hear The Heckler also awesome for people lookin for some Vintage primus.
@Whuntmore I was wondering why the heck that sounded so familiar!!! Thank you so much for posting your comment, yo! :) Sadly, I must admit that I only heard that song courtesy of Guitar Hero II.
Brain was in fact the original drummer before Primus got records out. I cant remember why, but he left, Herb took over and was there for many a year before Brain rejoined for the Brown Album. Of course now it has yet again switched back.
Thought you might like to know... Scheduling conflicts prevented Tom Waits from appearing in the original "Tommy the Cat" video. He was actually going to play the bartender for the shoot.
That's how they started their first ever album - live album "Suck on This" from 1989, with YYZ, before going into "John The Fisherman" (their first single).
They usually play YYZ as the intro to "John The Fisherman"(on the album "Suck On This") Primus needs to do another tour. Hallucino-Genetics was awesome.
@LeviathanoftheDanube theyre rollin the credits because theyre playing the outro music. he stops playing tommy then goes to that little bass line at the end of the shows
Ahhhh the 90's,.. I miss it so much. Good times, good tunes, good energy.
is herb wearing a public enemy shirt?

How the hell is he playing these complecated bass licks and doing such tongue twister vocals at the same time? Holy shit!
Les is a complete chuckle raiser. I love watching him play.

I saw the tour when they opened for Rush in Milwaukee.. not a lot of people at the show knew who Primus were.... after the concert, they ALL did.

That intro is one of my fave bits they do... basically a tribute to RUSH's YYZ

It's good that i know how to appreciate both Primus and Rush.

Brilliant, thanks very much for uploading.
Oh man, they opened for Rush? That had to have been the fucking greatest show ever. I'm seeing Rush in May, and i wish primus was there!
I like how Primus used to open for Rush and now they have a rush song open for them.
That was bizarre, but awesome. I don't think I've ever seen Les hold a note out that long while he was singing!
what a fucking golden nugget!!...thanks for posting this!....this is one of the tightest performances I've seen of Jerry, and probably cause they just got done recording Seas of Cheese....

It's their cover of the song "Tippi-Toes" by The Meters.
It's on their EP "Miscellaneous Debris".
Les and that bass are sick!
I would kill to hear a remastered version on this video.
it's amazing how he can play that riff and "sing" that stuff too.
Awesome! Thanks for posting.
Geddy Lee is also one of my faves.
That is actually the intro to YYZ, which they also play as the intro to John the Fisherman in some live concerts
Awsomw performance. And (though it didn't show in this clip), former Zappa drummer Chad Wackerman was in the house band!!
HANDS DOWN the best three man band in the world and ever.
love when they play that intro on John The Fisherman
Jesus this is old, nice one bro!
Vintage Primus--reminds me of me ol high school daze in the Bay Area-tis makin me feel aged!
His name is Les Claypool and it's hard to find anybody that can play bass better than him. I still have yet to do it.
isn't that intro apart of John the Fisherman on the Suck on this CD? I love it.
Notice they were playing "Cissy Strut" by the Meters at the end? Class acts all round!
Primus on Dennis Miller=Good times!
Awesome! YYZ, Tommy the cat, and Tippi Toes. Damn, that's good.
PRIMUS! Woo Hooo!! I loved....
@Whuntmore I was wondering why the heck that sounded so familiar!!! Thank you so much for posting your comment, yo! :) Sadly, I must admit that I only heard that song courtesy of Guitar Hero II.

Primus, then Rush? It was a great day for bass players all over the world.

best era of primus.
They usually play YYZ as the intro to "John The Fisherman"(on the album "Suck On This")
Primus needs to do another tour. Hallucino-Genetics was awesome.
Love how they opened with YYZ.
les' expression at the beginning of the video is priceless
Les' facial expression at the beginning is priceless.
I see Larry still had his POSSESSED hair back then! (for those of you who don't know, Possessed was Larry's pre-Primus death metal band)

He's a huge RUSh fan and it's something of a tribute to them. Jeez guy.
