Every single one of them defended their players (who happen to be worse players by the way), except the Arsenal fan who as usual is either too honest or is just used to being the beta fan. I have never understood how these fans even with the disgraceful state of their clubs are still more confident to defend the most ridiculous situations while Arsenal fans just accept everything and even when they defend, make a mess of the defence. Imagine a Chelsea fan putting Martinelli top of his list of underwhelming players. A flipping Chelsea fan. Martinelli? His game hasn't changed, what changed was the entire left side personnel throughout the season. Player relationships are important, when he had Zinchenko, Xhaka, and Jesus to link up with on the left last season he was able to find more joy. This season he had to hold Havertz's hand, deal with Kiwior learning to invert, and Jesus being out for most of the season. Trossard has been good when coming on as a super sub, to fullbacks that have already been run ragged, but defences are still doubling Martinelli and he's still blowing by them, he just can't get into central positions enough because he has less help on the left than he had last season.

    • @TP-pq9xx

      Arsenal supporters say that Saka is triple and quadruple teamed on every possession so that should leave the pitch wide open on Martinelli's side.

    • @ShutThePuck
      @ShutThePuck Месяц назад

      @@TP-pq9xx You took an off hand brainless comment from Rory and just parotted it without thinking.
      If play is switched from right to left, the other teams defense adjusts and it's the wingers who help, the opposing LW comes back to double Saka with the LB, which is why White overlaps, but if an additional midfielder comes to help that's where a triple up can happen.
      This doesn't necessarily free up Martinelli, Arsenal don't whip crosses into the back post or crowd the box enough for cutbacks - that's not a Martinelli issue it's a tactics issue, largely because of how many low blocks we face, getting to the goal line or getting into positions where we have acres of space to run into, teams are often already set defensively and how Arsenal breaks them down is with their intricate passing patterns, patterns which require relationships to be built between players which was the central point I made.

    If these players were half as good as they made out they wouldn’t be in mid table for a second consecutive season. Three managers, plus two interims, but the players aren’t the problem? Ok.
    I saw one comparing Jacksons goal scoring to Havertz a week or two ago, like are we just acting as if Havertz didn’t play in midfield for half the season? I don't care about the rest of the order, but Rasmus has to be 5th. When he arrived, there was no expectation. He was young, raw, only played like 24 times for Atalanta, and was only jokingly compared to Haaland because of their similar sounding names.
    Caicedo was one of the best players last season, Mount has been an England regular for years, Martinelli went from almost 30 goal involvements in a title charge in a great team, to a fraction of that a year later, and Haaland went from the best season ever and Balon d'or shouts to not even being in Balon discussion.
    Not to mention, Holjund won player of the month a few months back. So, what I'm saying is, the player with the least expectation has exceeded expectations the most. He has to be last on this list!
    Wait, and he was injured when he first arrived, and he has Antony and an out of form Rashford supplying him, and he has no-one to learn from/compete for his spot. If any other Man United player deserves to be on this list, it's Rashford

Just like I wouldn't expect Caicedo to perform to a £115 mill price tag. However, based on performances last season (the only actual thing you can base a player on), Holjund had very little expectation and has out performed Caicedo, Martinelli and Mount despite having WAY WAY WAY less expected of him

    As per Haaland, I think too many ppl with a myopic perspective are going to hard on him. He’s had a fractured bones in his foot since the end of Nov and was out till end of Jan and now, hurt it again in the RM hence him coming off. That said, yes he’s def missed some sitters and he is 100% to blame for it. Undoubtedly. But I also think there should be a closer look at Pep and how his tactics, especially this season, are playing to Haaland’s weaknesses and not strengths.
    To the frustration of anyone with a set of eyes, Pep has been playing with an absurdly high line that has left us open to solid counter attacks from every, yes…every, team we’ve played and the defensive woes are backed up with the stats. But what a lot of ppl are not talking about is the negative effect it’s having on Haaland’s game when City okay the high line AND their buildup play is so slow, many people say it’s boring. Fair assessment. Offensively, Pep plays the high line to press the opposition further but the downside is when combined with slow buildup play, it allows the opposition to reset their defensive shape and if playing a low block, allows the whole opposition team to flood the box and sucks the space away that is needed for Haaland to function. This was well shown in the RM game at the Etihad.
    Great defenses will certainly take away some of Haaland’s attacking prowess, but when Pep plays the high line with slow buildup, whatever the opposition defense can’t take from Haaland, Pep’s tactics will. Additionally, how many times this season have we seen Haaland breaking the lines and the City attack sees him, and then instead of passing to him or moving the ball fwd, they instead elect to pass literally or backwards and slow the play that much more. It’s like the trifecta of hell for Haaaland: defenders take away some aspects of his game, Pep’s high line and slow buildup takes away much of what the opposition defense can’t and then whatever is leftover, the City players take away (exception KDB and Foden Doku to a degree) by ignoring Haaland with quick, albeit risky passes, electing to pass sideways or backwards.
    If you look at Haaland’s heat maps from BvD and compare them to his at City this season, they’re night and day. Haaland has multiples more touches, linkup and buildup play at BvD than at City. Why? BvD played to his strengths: thru balls, quick transitions, risky passes played etc. It’s the complete opposite of what Pep does. Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that Pep has drastically changed his tactics from last year to this year and we also last 45GA in Gundo & Mahrez who would create for Haaland and those players were not replaced properly (City board bottled the summer window).
    Does all this excuse Haaland’s spurning of some huge chances this season? Absolutely not, but given all the change in personnel, Peps tactics and injuries he’s sustained, it certainly shows that it’s not as simple as it’s all down to Haaland

    • @TP-pq9xx
      @TP-pq9xx Месяц назад

      Pep is never going to be a counter-attacking, defensive manager. Haaland knew exactly what his role would be when he chose to join City and I don't think he's unhappy with how it's turned out. His finishing has been a bit below expectations this season but he would still be on 40+ goals all comps if he hadn't been injured and playing through an injury. If he was fit all season and finished a little better he could be having a 50-60 goal season easily in this system that you're saying is so harmful to him.

    • @MCFCTheMadHatter
      @MCFCTheMadHatter Месяц назад

      @@TP-pq9xx Has Pep changed his tactics from last season to this one? Yes. He's moved the backline even higher and is essentially playing a wingback system with players who cannot perform the same way as true wingbacks. Walker is the perfect example of this. Is it any wonder that NF for example, targeted Walker's side for most of the counter attacks? I could go on and on with other examples of it simply not working well as it is extremely risky. You can't simply say, well the system is fine its the players. That would be nonsensical
      In terms of Haaland, are you saying that the new high line pressing system that Pep has implemented this season has not negatively affected Haaland's game? Yes he def has made some mistakes, 100% and he needs to own from missed sitters to spurning some chances. But beyond that, why have we not seen as many chances created for Haaland this season? Why is that he seems to be so easily taken out games? We've even seen with Alvarez in the 9 as well and he dribble, play false 9 etc. The system, and I am surprised you don't see it at all. Maybe in your eye, Pep is infallible and therefore anything he does cannot be an issue and therefore it must the players or something else.
      But more and more people are waking up and seeing that his system has a lot of tradeoffs with it
