Great engineering!! Drive the steel plug into the axle stub rust scale and all. That makes for a strong joint, dontcha know??
This repair does NOT create a joint stronger than the original. Before it broke, the axle was in a constant state of compression - tension as it rolled. Those 2 forces were equally distributed over the diameter of the axle shaft. Now that the center of the axle is a separate piece, it no longer shares in compression or tension as the distribution of these forces now stops at the boundary between the repair plug and the original axles material. This allows the end of the axle to have leverage when exerting tension on the axle so only the repair plug will not share in carrying those loads and the axle can begin to fracture at the outer surface of the plug at the deepest point of the weld.

These axles are so grossly overloaded that I do not know how they survive the abuse they put them through at all??? I don't know how those poor u-bolts hold the axle in place with the extreme weight they are loading on those crazy big leaf springs!!! I work on heavy duty trucks in the USA and these videos just amaze me how they overload these axles 4+ times the weight they were designed to haul!!

    • @tristan6509

Japanese trucks are pretty durable, they're designed to carry alot more weight than the "rated capacity"
      It's still dangerous nonetheless though.

Have you ever heard of a 5:1 test ratio? I can't speak for those axles or yours but from what I've seen most axles come between 3:1 5:1 or is tested 3 to 5 times it's marked rating. Manufacturers do this because it safer. Less law suits and its a better product.

Wonder where the wheels went when they took a ride? On that other utube channel smashing into the store front possibly??
Why not turn down the round stock so ya know it's true.
I know there is a lot of criticism here but hands down, these guys definitely make due with what they have.
Side note, wouldn't it be funny if the lathe really was spinning that fast?!!

Everyone talking about the welds and so on. While im over cringing every time a person gets under a truck held up by a bottle Jack. No the safest thing to do. Or put these trucks in bottle jacks. The jacks are not meant for this. But to each his own. I respect my life more that this . Call it tires holding it up, but all it takes is one thing go wrong 😑

Instead of welding repairs and patching simply carry the right weight. Problem solved.
