  • Here are some interesting facts about cormorants :
    Cormorants are large, black seabirds with a wingspan of over 5 feet.
    They are excellent swimmers and divers, and can dive for up to 70 seconds to catch fish, their main source of food.
    Cormorants are not waterproof and must spend time drying their wings out by standing with their wings splayed.
    They nest communally, often in trees near water, and lay 3-6 eggs that are incubated for about a month.
    The chicks are fed regurgitated fish by their parents until they fledge at 50 days old.
    The cormorant population in the UK has been increasing since 1986, and they are now found in both coastal and inland areas.
    Cormorants can live up to 15 years on average.
