It is a direct parallel, the Gjallarhorn is a real world thing, a long horn used during the times of Vikings and those who believed in Ragnarok.. still used to this day as well
The sound could he heard in D1 as an available sparrow horn.
Gjallarhorn is straight up from Norse mythology, big horn used by Heimdall to signal Ragnarok.

A day when many of us scoffed “why waste an exotic slot on a rocket launcher”….many tears of frustration and agony afterwards as it soon rose to fame.
Xur selling Gjally was the only reason I ever got it in D1 lmao

Having such a memorable and powerful D1 weapon as Gjallarhorn in our hands once more made me smile and shed tears of joy. I can't wait to get it and I also hope its Iron Gjallarhorn form comes as an Ornament!

Imagine a second ornament where it takes the 'made of armor of fallen guardians' thing more directly, covering it in recognizable panels of armor like an ego talon helmet crest piece and a titan shoulderpad like zavalas?
I love how destiny officially has its own irl legends among players now. Just adds to the hype that's already attached to in game lore.
This gave me chills to start, brought a tear to my eye thinking of fallen friends, and finally rounded to triumphant exultation thinking of all the adventures I’ve had with this gun. Seriously, well done, I can’t subscribe fast enough. See you all on Tuesday!

The gun is so legendary I still hear the music from damage sequence during Atheon in my mind whilst rockets fly overhead and a Ward of Dawn illuminating us!

Should my memory serve me correctly, the 16 wolves represents the 16 original iron lords who fell to siva
For those who do not know what Gjallarhorn is it was an exotic rocket launcher first introduced in destiny 1 and for all of year one was the most powerful exotic weapon hands down. Bungie nerfed it when taken king launched but brought it back in rise of iron. It is my favorite exotic in all of destiny.

This gun was the bane of my existence and ultimately why I stopped playing D1 before rise of iron released, I never got lucky enough to get one in D1 and it got to a point where if you didn't have one no one on LFG would let you ally up. I have so much anxiety about it returning for this reason

What a great encapsulation of both its lore and use in game. I remember the thrill of getting the exotic drop. Then we rebuilt it and got Iron Gjallarhorn. It was the 'fun gun'. Very good production and script. Enjoyed it immensely. Now I hope I can acquire it again.

I used this beauty in D1 and felt like I greatly under appreciated its use. Now that it’s coming back I plan on making up for it so you can bet that I’ll be jumping on the opportunity once the update drops
