Dunure castle is located on the west coast of Scotland, in South Ayrshire, about five miles (eight kilometres) south of Ayr and close to the village of Dunure.
Although it has been a ruin for at least three hundred years, Dunure Castle was once the main fortress of the powerful Kennedy family, the Earls of Cassilis.
It was one of the first filming locations used for Outlander season 3, being was used several times. It was also used in season 4, appearing in episode 7, ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’.
