    EXTERIOR
    Finished in the extremely rare factory original colour Peridot Metallic this fantastic early production Mini Metro is every inch a rare surviving delight and boasts a bright finish to the paintwork. Having covered such few miles all trim, lights, glass and rubbers are in fabulous order and rare Mini Metro badging is still fitted to the tailgate as per early production examples. A minor depression to the rear bumper is barely visible. Once a common sight on our roads, this fantastic example really does stir up nostalgia and with such low miles covered represents a wonderful opportunity to the collector and enthusiast alike.
    INTERIOR
    The delicate interior of this Mini Metro is completely original and in perfect preserved condition. The upholstery in Savannah is completely free from wear and still retains its fullness, as do the matching brown carpets protected by genuine Mini Metro rubber floor mats. All functions including the optional push button LW/MW radio operate fully. A genuine tax disc from 1983 remains in the screen. A truly remarkable interior in a superb preserved state. A British car to beat the world!
    ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
    The legendary and time proven A-plus engine of 998cc displacement needs no introduction with robust simple mechanics and excellent parts availability. Producing an ample 45bhp and 53 lb/ft of torque, this spritely Metro can hold its own in modern traffic and is tremendous fun with Mini like road manners. The four speed hydraulically operated all synchromesh gearbox delivers light and exact changes with the characteristic Metro sound.
    WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
    Five standard 12” refurbished steel wheels remain with the car and are shod in the factory supplied Goodyear Gran Prix 135 SR12 tyres with excellent tread remaining. The dual circuit hydraulic brake system with circuit failure monitor pull the car up quickly and safely.
    HISTORY FILE
    A well-known example within the Metro Owners Club with plenty of stand appearances, including the NEC Classic Car Show, this delightful car is used to the limelight! Launched on the 8th October 1980 this prime example was built at the Longbridge Plant on the 13th February 1981 as a batch of 53 destined for the Belgium market. Never registered in its intended destination it was registered in the UK in April 1982. Recently discovered by Metro enthusiast, Ian Kimpton after 31 years of careful garage storage and subsequently sold by KGF Classic Cars this rare car is now available once more due to the current owners ill health. In his care for one year it has covered just 1000 miles and been subject to a full service in that time. A fantastic opportunity to acquire what is now a very desirable, early, low mileage British Leyland iconic product.
    MOT January 2018, HPI clear.

    What a crackin' wee Metro, it is indeed a rare survivor. I worked in a British Leyland garage in 1981-82 and remember they sold very well and were everyehere, they used to rust their front wings/front valence out quickly, but they drove like a go-cart with superb steering and handled like a Mini, roomy for their size too......I have a soft spot for the Metro and hope it goes to a good home.......it maybe an HLE spec as they had the rubbing strips on the flanks, the L trim was coachlines i think.

      @Mister_H 5 лет назад +1

      Yes I agree about it being an HLE too due to the rubbing strip instead of the coachlines. HLS had the same rubbing strip, but it also had fancier seats and tinted windows.

      Is a really lovely example. I think it's an L model as that's what it says in the tailgate. And there's no 'E' on the gearstick. We had a1. 3L which had the poverty headlights, about the same age as this one so that makes me wonder too about the provenance of the L badging.

    • @Mister_H
      @Mister_H 5 лет назад +1

      Ally Morrison I agree I am not convinced it’s in its original specification. The L had the smaller lights as you say, but I’m not sure the early HLE had the 3+E gearknob. I think that changed later on when they brought out the Meastro HLE which had 3+E from the beginning to keep them the same.

    • @TheAllyMor
      @TheAllyMor 5 лет назад

      I wasn't aware of that. I later bought a Y plate 1.3 hl when I was about 18. Quite a rare model. It had the better headlights, and the interior looked similar to this car with the fancy headrests. But that's about all I can recall.... Except that the front wings and valance had to be replaced and that it drank oil like it was going out of fashion!

    • @Mister_H
      @Mister_H 5 лет назад +1

      Ally Morrison it’s a puzzler 🙂. I had a 1.3S with the jazzy multi stripped blue seats and that drunk loads of oil. Then I 3 MG’s after that, they were great cars in their time 😀

    They need to bring these cars back, cheap to run and very convenient in the city plus, there smart looking little runners and yes they had rust issues but made that cute high pitch noise just before you change gear whilst driving 😂😉👍🏻

    Another early 1980's rare survivor! Superb condition outside & inside. I did notice the fuel gauge not working when the ignition was switched on & engine started, perhaps fuel level very low! I hope whoever has bought this rare car will look after it & keep it in the excellent condition it is in! Thank you for posting footage.

    ...check out the ashtrays near perfect ergonomics and also the nice flat shelf for putting things on. I had a couple of these, one was a four speed auto that actually changed into the gear you selected when you selected it, unlike other autos from the same era, and the other didn't work when it got wet.

    Just as well Metro's had gear position indicators diagrams on the cluster and gear knob, often confused owners forgot where to move the lever.

    I had one, bought it for 200 quid, weathered, give it a tcut and it looked like this, my wife crashed it, i've had three metros, two R75s, a Sterling and a R25, out of nearly 40 cars they were the best, and the worst were an Audi and a VW Touareg. wow take note of the vision, it's like a conservatory lol

    Oh gaaawd my brother had 2 of em. And the one nearly killed him when the rear subframe broke due to metal cancer. Thankfully it went when he pulled into the works car park and not down the motorway. I remember the advert 'a car to take on the world' I don't bloody think so.

      I had x Reg metro 1.0 L trim it had the tiny useless rubber head restraints you had to get a hle, hls, vanden plas and mg trim to get the extra padding, as for the base trim it had no head restraints and horrible pvc seats.
