  • Hey friends!
    Join me as I repot my Bryophyllum daigremontianum, commonly known as the mother of thousands plant or the alligator plant! Because this plant propagates via plantlets that develop on its phylloclade, you can very quickly wind up with a ton of them.
    Once again, I'm sorry if the audio sounds off. That's the struggle of living by a bunch of air conditioning units, a parking garage, and an airport!
    Do any of you have a mother of thousands plant? What do you do with all of the plantlets it produces? Let me know in the comments below!
    As always, thank you guys for watching!

    Oh my! I think you’ll need a bigger pot in a week!

      Haha no kidding! With this plant you just have to accept that you’ll never have a big enough pot to hold them all!

    I love your arrangement! I've never seen more than one in a pot so I've been only planting mine as singles. How big will they all get and will they crowd each other out and need to be repotted? My mother is only in a 4" pot and is huge! Will putting them together like that keep them smaller? Sorry for all the questions. LOL

      Thank you!! Yes, they definitely crowd each other out and compete for space. In my experience I just let them do their thing since they produce SO many babies. You can keep repotting them but if they’re in the right environment you’ll be repotting all the time. 😂

    Do you have pink mother of thousands I bought pups. Do u have any suggestions on planting? Thanks new to your channel. Loving it...

      Wow, so cool! The pink ones are so pretty! I’ve read that they need more light than the regular mother of thousands plants.
      As far as planting, it should do well using the same method I did in the video. I would just make sure it has a well draining soil with different particulate in it.

    Did u know the mother of millions actually produces less babies!

    • @KelseyStyron
      @KelseyStyron  3 года назад +1

      I did not! That’s so funny. I honestly didn’t realize mother of millions was a separate plant, I just thought maybe it was another nickname for the same species.

    How often do the water of them?

    • @KelseyStyron
      @KelseyStyron  2 года назад +1

      Usually just once every few weeks! If it’s summertime, then I water several times a week since it dries out much quicker.

    Mother of Thousands vs. Mother of Millions, same or different?

    • @KelseyStyron
      @KelseyStyron  Год назад +1

      That’s a great question! They are super similar in terms of care, but they are technically different. The mother of millions has narrower leaves, and the plantlets are clustered in a smaller grouping towards the end of the leaf.
      In contrast, the mother of thousands has broader leaves and plantlets are dispersed more on the leaf. 😄

    I also liked this plant but its illegal in some countries i believe as it is extremely toxic and invasive

      It definitely is! Mine was given to me by a friend who worked for a nursery, and she luckily told me about its toxicity first.
